Pond5 / Re: Do you think Pond5 is going to be a leader?
« on: November 17, 2014, 08:22 »
I don't upload there as I don't make video, but I would like to see them grow. They have potencial as IS, DT and most low earners are slowly dying. P5 should make efforts to get those clients that today are heading to SS and FT. I would gladly upload my port there.

So BS is selling video for a lower price than stills... yeah, that's gotta work.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE ??

My IS sales have doubled, and RPD have gone up too. All my files are from this year and most of them are small size. I'll have to wait for the PP to see if the change was really positive or not. Last month's PP was weak so let's see.

« on: September 24, 2014, 06:18 »
Seems pretty normal to me. Popularity in SS doesn't mean most downloads, I believe it's more like downloads divided by their age (roughly, as there may be other factors involved). New images have a boost even without downloads, so a file uploaded today may appear at the top - but will go down if they don't sell.

One thing I learned is to never trust agencies that offer money for uploads... they will charge back later and if they were good as they say, people would upload anyway. 30% and charging payout is a bad joke. I went to delete my files and found out I'm locked until the end of the year. It was their strategy from the start... never had a sale there so they can explode themselves.

Considering only IS sales, money is surprisingly up without any uploads in a while.
Unfortunately I make 85% on the PP which fell off a cliff since IS subscription was introduced.

General - Top Sites / Re: Beautiful Keyword
« on: September 20, 2014, 12:53 »
I'd be surprised if people used it as a search term. I was once told that its main purpose is to make the models feel good when they see it.

Well some do, specially occasional OD buyers.
Why they didn't take "beautiful" away from all images is beyond my comprehension.

General - Top Sites / Re: Beautiful Keyword
« on: September 20, 2014, 11:44 »
I would agree if the keyword was completely eliminated, but old images still have them. These will never suffer any more competition. That's quite unfair, I won't be heavily affected but those who shoot beautiful women often will have a hard time against old files.

It's like the word "background" it's completely useless, but some buyers use it.

Guess what - the uploading system in SS and FT doesn't accept "beautiful" anymore.

While people were probably overusing it, what if you really have a beautiful woman, or landscape?

One Istockphoto is already painful enough, there's no need for another one.

They messed up again, TS was a good seller for new files and was diluted with the IS subscription.

But pp is still ongoing right?

Yes PP is still there... for now. My sales crashed last month anyway, so I stopped uploading.

237
They messed up again, TS was a good seller for new files and was diluted with the IS subscription. They just lost more customers to SS in yet another unnecessary transition. I sold more credit sales than usual the days before the change and 0 since then. Lost all my hope for IS.

All micro agencies with the exception of SS are decaying, and as the industry reaches maturity it's normal and expected for increased market share concentration. In the long term it's gonna be just SS which would be great if it wasn't for the flooding competition. I still carry on with FT but I know it's just matter of time until they too go under.

First 10 days of september were great, in number of downloads and OD's.
But the last few days have been really slow.

My sales on DT now exceed my sales on SS and have for over 12 months now.

Dang, congrats. That is simply amazing. My sales on DT are 1/4 of SS.

I make 33 times more in SS than DT with about the same number of images.
DT's time has passed - outdated, painful submission, ridiculous reviews and insignificant sales.

Like somebody well said, it's going to be a 2 horse race from now on.

Adobe Stock / Re: still worth uploading?
« on: September 11, 2014, 12:26 »
I find submission to FT quite easy so I keep uploading there, even though sales peak right after uploading and then fall flat. Still a decent growing earner as long as I keep uploading new files.

I'm kinda dropping IS now, too painful submission for declining sales.
So what's left for me is only SS and FT.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: August subs
« on: September 11, 2014, 12:01 »
PP was really bad -27% downloads compared to July and -37% revenue.

IS sales being in extinction and the few subs do not make up for the loss in the PP.
If there is no Getty 360 it won't be worth the pain to upload there.

Some subscription buyers must be heading to SS. Probably a good thing.

« on: September 09, 2014, 11:44 »
My two best sellers which used to sell 2-3 times every day were pushed down the search.
Not thrilled about it, they should come up with the best algorithm and leave it like that.

The search should change slowly according to sales and not with these sudden changes.

I don't know how this thread turned into a 4 year old fight. Can we please stay focused on the issue here?

It's been a week since the topic was created we're yet to hear a decent reply from SS. If this is just a mistake, why they don't simply come here and explain reasonably why we are seeing all the facts mentioned so far?

Don't get me wrong, SS is the best agency. It's clear, reliable and with a great communication with contributors. I guess we all appreciate that, but we have to know what's happening there so we can all move on.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Keywords - Less is better?
« on: August 27, 2014, 10:29 »
One thing is keyword spamming, but for most images you can still find 50 relevant keywords without having to lie or being overly creative. What I hate the most are the paradise islands or european cities where some people put a whole list of different locations, competing with the real stuff.

It would be much better if agencies set a limit of 10 keywords, it would save us and the buyers a lot of time. But I've seen top sellers with both few and plenty of keywords, I guess what counts the most is the image quality, and luck to be seen in the first few days.

Can't wait to reach my payout in 2016.

247
Have you guys seen the new SS search today?
Now they only show 3-4 files per row (at least in my computer) where it used to be 6-7.

Files in the first few rows will benefit and all the rest will be punished.
This will favor sale concentration, bad move if you ask me.

Edit: and it's back to normal  8)

I agree, something is rotten in the state of SS.

It certainly is... I'm not seeing decline of sales but I do see a lot of new files messed up in the Image Gallery Stats. We can hope it's a bug and SS reports the alleged sales or at least be able to provide a reasonable explanation to why the search and sale reports are not working properly.

Because the only reply given by Scott so far lack Focus - subject is blurry, too soft, or out of focus.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Keywords - Less is better?
« on: August 26, 2014, 06:57 »
Hard to tell... when I think it's an image with potencial to be a good seller I put 50 keywords.
Normal pictures I put maybe 20-30 keywords so I don't waste too much time.

When an image is sold in SS without keywords attached, I understand it's divided by all keywords. So 1/50 relevance of a sale while 10 keywords would be 1/10 of relevance. Still what matters the most is to get the keyword attached. It would take 10 sales of a 10 keyword image to get the same relevance as 1 keyworded sale. So I don't believe less is more because you have more chance to get relevance with more keywords. From what I've noticed buyers use a lot of weird keywords because they don't really know what they want until they see something they like.

Less common subjects can get to the top page with only one keyworded sale.
So as long as the 50 keywords are still relevant, I think it's your best bet.

Thanks Scott for the prompt reply.

But how can a image with no sales have keywords relevance?
Is the Image Gallery Stats not working properly?

Please let us know when you have more information about it.
