Mine average is $0.58 per D/L. Sales have rocketed in the last few weeks for me, however, it seems to be the same images that sell everyday!

Interesting thread since I am very shortly going to reach 100 d/ls. I am considering uping my rates and am curious as to how this will effect my sales. Has anyone got any experience they would like to share about this?

My portfolio has been selling steadily as usual, so I don't see much of an impact on my sales since the arrival of Iofoto.
However, I do feel that this is another inevitable progression that will keep raising the standard bar. This in itself will be a good thing for SS as well as forcing us to be ever more creative in improving our quality.
This I see as a good thing for us and the industry since it will widen the gap between photogs that are not so good hobbiests and photogs that are more serious about the industry. Draw your own conclusions but I feel positive about this as part of the longer term picture.

Cornishman has a good point there! Make a holiday and buy some lenses. If you are buying Canon lenses make sure you cut off the bar code part of the box before you discard it. You would need these for rebates. I just got a check for $160 from Canon for two lenses I recently bought, one through Amazon and one through B&H.

Yingyang is right, there are several scam retailers that opperate out of New York. Scams include quoting low prices to get you interested and then the hard upselling and games begin. Make sure you spend some time checking credible reviews. Personally I would only stick strictly to B&H or Amazon (US version). B&H prices are fair and they have an excellent reputation. If you are ever in New York it is worth stopping by their store! Being a European living in the US its great to get equipment at much better prices.

Here is a link which might help you in your decision.
Where?
I am in a similar position to you. I am also factoring in using CS3 in a personal capacity too so not just for microstock. I am quite interested in trying HDR and making my personal pictures look better.
HDR is awesome, however, there are cheaper software options than CS2/3 if HDR capability is your motivation for upgrading. I took a free trial and loved playing around with HDR, however, I am not sure how accepted HDR manipulations are to the micros, but its a heck of a lot of fun :-)

IS is performing really well for me. I hate the slow uploading process but my sales are consistantly increasing, I am averaging about 10 uploads a week and my sales have been doubling ever month since I joined in Dec 06. Their rate of sales growth is greater than SS for me. Perhaps because I am only submitting my best shots due to the upload limit? So I say 'way to go IS' , working well for me

Congrats - that's quite a milestone to have reached

I agree with you Stockmania, you raised some interesting points on the exclusive vs non-exclusive debate.
One question about going exclusive that has bothered me, what are you expected to do with your existing portfolios on other sites?
Surely you aren't expected to delete them all?

Well I had my first 25c subscription download, and then I just had an image sell at $1 then another at $2, both at maximum size?! It is a lottery as to what each Dl will pay, but, the DL's are still coming in. So I am happy

Congratulations, hopefully this will give you a further boost for that image, and also more traffic to your portfolio. How about a link to your image?

By the way grp_photo, with sales like that you probably have a kick ass portfolio that does well everywhere!

I've stopped submitting to StockXpert and 123, since there are no sales there.
I'm already over 200,- Dollars at StockXpert this month also i make a constant 100,- Dollars each month at 123rf since an half year so please don't say there are no sales that's BS.
Perhaps my English wasn't clear enough for you. What I meant was that I have stopped uploading at StockXpert and 123 because there are no sales there for me. That's no BS!!

Funnily enough BigStock has started to give me consistent sales growth since early Feb; and even LO seems to be getting better.
SS, IS and DT still remain good for me.
Seem to be getting a strong surge on SS, perhaps due to the announcement of their new subscription fee changes; prompting a rush in DLs.
Anyone else notice this?

Sounds risky to use a normal bed sheet. Look for a fire proof bedsheet/material in the baby section of your local baby store. Quite often baby crib bed sheets are made of fire proofed material. I am guessing that your lamp will kick out alot of heat so be careful and I am sure that you have an extinguisher nearby!

Dave the first thing I noticed about your porfolio is that the isolated objects have grey backgrounds. My experience with StockXpert is that they are looking for objects that are perfectly isolated against white, not grey. For getting into StockXpert it may be worth revisiting Photoshop

I like the idea of a MSG creative network. If anyone would like to add me to their CN my IS user id is stu99, and I will add you to mine.

Quote CanStockPhoto "Depending on your weekly volume, you may receive up to 4 cents per image".
Wow - if you reviewed one image a minute...and maintained that pace, you would earn $2.4 per hour. Ouch!

Tina Your question as stated in th thread title is 'should I bother'. Well quite simply...yes, you should. Getting in is often a pain in the butt, but, once you are in, the reviews are fast and the downloads plentiful. Your images are good and there has been some excellent advice offered here by the MSG community. You will get in next time I am sure, since it seems you only missed by one ie 6/10. Good luck

A more direct approach would be through local retailers. Last week I was able to exhibit one framed print and some other prints (in a portfolio folder) at my local arts centre. The result is that two local retailers are going to exhibit some of my prints (framed) and show my portfolio. I will pay a commission to the art centre on every print framed and unframed sold (30%) I will be showing local scenics at a local bank and animal and nature shots at a local pet store. Hopefully I'll sell a few Food for thought for you

Unfortunately if part of the logo is recognisable, then they have a point. A logo that may not be recognisable to you may be obvious to someone else. However, it does seem a bit stringent. Its a great picture and deserves good sales. Will you remove the logo and re-submit, or are you worried that they might want model releases for the ant size people on the pier?
