Shutterstock.com / Re: sudden increase of $0.38 SODs
« on: June 25, 2015, 08:52 »
I was wondering the same.  I wonder if it's similar to PP sales in Istock where they tally all of the FB sales in 1-2 days.  Almost 80 downloads so far...

Matt,

Currently, Fotolia reads only the title and keywords from the metadata of each file uploaded.  Is there any way that it can read the description instead of the title?

Veer / Re: Veer sales nowadays
« on: June 21, 2015, 00:21 »
Also, could you explain why nice can't mean "kind"?  Veer only allows three different meanings for nice:

For the keyword 'nice', do you mean:
Nice (Alpes-Maritimes); good (quality); Nice (Lake County)

General Stock Discussion / Stockuploader ends
« on: June 05, 2015, 22:06 »
http://www.stockuploader.com/

Stockuploader was the best tool for uploading images and video to multiple websites.  And it's free.  Unfortunately, it ends its life Dec. 1st because  Sharky wants more time with his son.

That really sucks.  I for one really really really appreciate Sharky's efforts in creating this.

What can we use after stockuploader is gone ?  There are no alternative free solutions.

Igor's response below:

Hello everybody!

Stockuploader will not work when the site is down. it will be full of errors popping up and eventually crash. Since to upload you need internet access, i never really thought about the possibility that the webpage might not be reachable.
In the next days ill release a update that will give a error message and close the program if the site is not reachable. still better than a crash.. :D

The custom version for PC is already coded (Yesterday i was home alone for a few hours.. :D, that rarely happens..) and I might be starting to mail it out anytime soon.

It works with a name-tied-license and does not connect to the site in any way. Its completely disconnected from the webpage.

At first i wanted to give stockuploader to anybody who helped up to the moment i sent the email out. But given the HUGE amount of requests i got (over 100 emails in 2 days) and the huge amount of requests that landed in the trash (Such as "hey i think i should get a free full version because I used it every single day) I decided to give the people the possibility to donate until december 1st to get their copy. Any donation is fine.. even 1$ for a coffee. Also there are people who dont use it yet, and may start using it before december, and those would not have the opportunity to get the program after december. You may ask, why dont i give it just for free to everybody or release the source code? here are the answers:

1) I do belive strongly that giving is one of the most important things in life. And I appreciate who decided to give back to me without being forced to do so. There are people that donated 20 or more $ after about a week of usage, and there are Others that donated 0$ after 2 years of DAILY use. Well, I think that if stockuploader has to go, its mainly because there are too many people that take and dont give back. And once that this point is reached, I have the feeling that those who actually donated, and kept everybody afloat should be getting something for what they did. I speak of donation, but when I talk about donation i am also including everybody who did anything for stockuploader such as reviewers, translators, beta testers, and so on..

2) While i do belive in freeware, I do not belive in open source. There are countless hours of work behind the program, and I dont feel like putting it online and wait for the first guy to take it and start its own site profiting from my own work and maybe even selling the software. Moreover the program includes a license bought with the donations. (chilkat ftp2 library) and I cannot share the license online obviously.

Hope you all understand.. :)

I mean it with all the best intent.

Best regards

Igor

If you look here, DPC says they have 34 million images:

https://www.dollarphotoclub.com/Member/SignIn

But when you look at their FAQ, it says they have 26 million images:

https://www.dollarphotoclub.com/Info/FAQ

Lots of inconsistencies, but it's scary that they already have 26-34 million images.  I wish more people would opt out and destroy this perversion of microstock.

Fotolia currently has 39 million images.

32
This is obscene.  I sent them an email:

"I opted out of the Dollar Photo Club, and yet, my entire portfolio is there. Why is that? This is a gross violation of my terms of agreement. I DO NOT WANT MY FILES SOLD FOR ONE DOLLAR. PLEASE REMOVE IMMEDIATELY."

Someone should notify Andresr so that he knows that his 40,000 images are up there too.  I think he was one of the big microstock factories that sent a letter to them last year during D-Day.

Or the other option is a union.  If there was only a person or group of people that were influential enough to band all stock photographers together and demand higher pricing.....or pull out all the photos

Alas, there will always be those that are OK with what they are getting paid and refuse to do even the little things like opting out of DPC.

Interesting thread.  More interesting that BS is my second best earner.

Yes, there are definitely issues with the uploading process at the moment.  I sent them an email, but I guess we just have to wait until they fix it.

General - Top Sites / Re: Fotolia beats Shutterstock
« on: February 01, 2015, 12:59 »
Fotolia is in last place for me.  Even BigStock makes more every month.  But it might be because I'm not opted into DPC.

37
I meant to say they should pay for Resnick's legal fees too...stand up for the contributor.  I was under the impression that Shutterstock was going to take the settle route but could not reach  an agreement Forni.

38
Just donated...good luck to you.

I think this case is ridiculous.  To have to worry about litigation when we make pennies off this.  From my own experience, models think we make a lot of money off stock because they see their face on billboards.  In reality, it couldn't be further from the truth.

I don't suggest that Shutterstock use their legal fees to combat all claims...but for a high profile case like this, they really should consider hiring an attorney to send the message that nothing was done wrong here.

Looks like I need to take out insurance now even with signed model releases.

Shutterstock.com / Re: What's the best day to upload to SS?
« on: December 16, 2014, 15:22 »
My vote is Friday and Saturday are the worst days.  I stopped uploading because the reviews are so inconsistent on those particular days.  Historically, whenever they reviewed my pictures on Wednesday, 100% were accepted.

Nothing wrong with SS.  Was an excellent time to buy today...so I bought.

Adobe Stock / Crappy earnings on FT
« on: December 08, 2014, 20:59 »
I opted out DPC as soon as I uploaded my first image.  Most of my earnings are either $.17 or $.20.  Do they really punish contributors this much if we decide to opt out of DPC?  FT is the lowest  of all microstock websites at this rate.

Thanks a lot for the tip.  Do you have any recommendations for which tripod?

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Video equipment help
« on: October 19, 2014, 12:36 »
After doing photography for a few months, I am interested in getting into video.  The camera I have is a Canon 5D Mark iii with a 70-200, f 4.0 lens and a nifty fifty.  What would you guys recommend to shoot something like this:

http://www.shutterstock.com/video/search/?searchterm=asian+woman&lang=en&language=en&search_source=footage&safesearch=1&version=llv1#:4693058

I was thinking of getting a steadicam like this one--
 http://www.amazon.com/Roxant-stabilizer-construction-stabilization-stabilizers/dp/B00K67QUQK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1413700071&sr=8-2&keywords=steadicam

Really not sure what other equipment I need or whether I should get a tripod or steadicam.  Help?

Was wondering...anyone use plugins like the Google Nik Collection to make their photos pop?  Or do you just edit with your own artistic vision?

April didn't start out very well, but the past week has been really good....I predict an increase of around 15%.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Whats up with Dreamstime?
« on: April 25, 2014, 21:19 »
My top-sellers on SS are different from my top-sellers on Dreamstime, but I think that makes sense.  From what I can tell, each stock agency has a different customer base.  That is also why it is so important to diversify and upload to as many sites as possible.  Pictures of mine that don't sell on SS end up selling on other sites so in my opinion it is worth the time.

Photo Critique / Re: Rejected at SS

Nothing wrong with it in my opinion.  That image would be accepted at all other stock photo sites.  Maybe try increasing exposure by 0.05 in Lightroom and resubmit.

I've had much fewer sales on Shutterstock this past week as well.
