Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock Third Quarter financials« on: November 04, 2017, 15:41 »That's awesome. Their pricing optimization changes made them 11% more per download without having to pay any increase to contributors per download. Not really true, contributor RPD is noticeably high then 1-2 years ago, and way higher then it was in the past. I agree that they could pay more to contributor, but i see RPD growth even higher than 11% 203
General - Top Sites / Re: How Was Your October?« on: November 01, 2017, 12:52 »
Finally something good, best month in 2,5 years on Shutterstock, 2nd best ever. I don't have exact account of this data, but I'm pretty sure it was the highest RPD ever. $1.12 for only photos, $1,55 overall including video sales.
Fotolia, my 2nd earner, doing fine. On other sites I don't really check monthly stats, just yearly... 204
Pond5 / Re: It worth to put some free videos?« on: October 26, 2017, 12:35 »Your prices are too low. Yes i think 79 for avarage 4K clips would be fine, I use similar prices. But your better and more interesting ones and topics without big oversupply could go even higher than that. So i think 79 should be the minimum for 4K, and the avarage is somewhat higher. As for supplying free clips... if your intention is to drive traffic to your portfolio i don't think it would work very well. Most of my experience is from the photo side, but I've found that it's very rare that people look into portfolios. Maybe if they find some really rare and special subject. Some time ago Shutterstock used to have a counter for portfolio visits. That time I used to have around 100 sales/day and less than one portfolio visit daily. But still, it happens once in a while that someone seemingly searches my portfolio and buys 5-10-20 images of the same topic. Still it's not sure that those are portfolio visits... maybe someone just buys hundreds of images of a particular subject and many of them happens to be mine just by luck. I wouldn't suggest to give away free footage for anyone. A good footage clip really takes work in setup, processing, computer power etc.... It's not something that should be offer for free. In the past sometimes I gave permission to some sites to put one of my images as weekly free photo on their front page when they asked. But i think giving free videos are not something to consider 205
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Getty contributor survey email ...that felt good.« on: October 24, 2017, 19:57 »Anyone else receive a contributor survey asking about stat reporting, contributor support etc??? I just don't understand why people want them to change. Simply drop that agency. I don't want them to get better in anything. I just hope they lose all their customers 206
Shutterstock.com / Re: keeps getting rejected« on: October 24, 2017, 14:32 »Its so frustrating because all agencyes AS, IS, Alamy, pond5, storyblocks accepted this items.... Keep in mind that if you submit it as editorial then no retouching like removing labels or any element should be done. And with images like this you must include the keyword "illustrative editorial" And yes, not accepting cameras as commercial seems to be a Shutterstock thing only 207
Shutterstock.com / Re: keeps getting rejected« on: October 24, 2017, 06:22 »
They don't accept cameras for many many years now.
Only as illustrative editorial. Most of the time they even reject photos where the camera is not the main subject alone. Like people taking photos. I remember that moment when they suddenly stopped accepting cameras as commercial RF. But they didn't go for deleting some previously accepted images like they had done with cars 208

Pond5 / Re: 40 days with no sales« on: October 23, 2017, 08:16 »We are seeing a massive decrease in sales on Pond5 too. We have 13k of footage. There have been a lot fewer views on our footage than before... so there is probably much fewer customers there :\ Your footage collection is amazing! I just wondered.. do site accept shots like this without model release? https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-7051216-stock-footage-very-high-on-power-lines-repairing.html?src=gallery/nJXCw6TmQZ9HCUgeYr7W2w:2:1/3p From experience with photos i wouldn't even have tried something like this even if the people would be 3-4 times smaller part of the picture than this. 210

Shutterstock.com / Re: What is happening to SS?« on: October 21, 2017, 21:34 »
Number of downloads is pretty low compared to the "good old times", but October is on the way for having record RPD.
Counting only photos it's $1.24 per download so far. Together with the 17 video sales $1.66 per download. 212
Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: Simple 4k editing, clipping software?« on: October 21, 2017, 06:41 »I use MPEG Streamclip 1.2 to cut videos or remove the sound and it works with 4k videos recorded with a Lumix LX100 camera I have 1.2.1. I can cut the original photojpeg clips. Had problems with h.264. But strange thing is that I tried it again, and it actually worked, it was just painfully slow. Strange, few days ago when I tried to open a clip like that I just got all sorts of error messages.. 213

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Simple 4k editing, clipping software?« on: October 20, 2017, 13:39 »
Used to use MPEG Streamclip for simple operations on video files but doesn't work with 4K clips.
Can you suggest some simple software to things like cutting the beginning and end of videos, deleting audio tracks, combining video and audio files... I'm look for a really simple program. In Adobe Premiere i can't even do things like deleting an audio track without recoding the video stream 215
General Stock Discussion / Re: POLL: Micro Photo Return Per Image Per Month« on: October 20, 2017, 10:22 »IFthe poll is accurate, the most interesting thing I see is that most people are making over $1.00 per image per year. Indeed, well over half should be making over $1.50 per image per year. I had seen in several discussions lately that $1.00-$1.50 per image per year was attainable with a really good portfolio. Either most people on here are really good or the estimate of what a really good portfolio is should be higher (like $2.00 per image per year?) In my opinion the ballpark number should be $1 per image per year on Shutterstock and $2 when you submit to all agencies 216

Adobe Stock / Re: Two new Adobe Stock features« on: October 18, 2017, 23:16 »Desintegrator, It's quite simple to connect Fotolia and AdobeStock accounts and you can still continue uploading to Fotolia. You will just upload to one site and your work will show up on both. The Fotolia site functions well and I too prefer using it. When I registered to Fotolia 11 years ago I happened to come across a link to en.fotolia.com, so i'm registered on the UK site, and get paid in GBP. Is adobestock.com handling separate currencies just like Fotolia? 218
Software / Re: No perpetual license for Lightroom 7« on: October 18, 2017, 19:05 »
Try Capture One Pro, Lightroom feels like a toy compared to it. Especially the user interface.
Capture one is has a much more professional feel, good functioning, and quite costumizable interface. Of course there is no one perfect solution, there some little things that are better in Lightroom. And it it always takes lot of effort to get used to a new RAW development program, and sometimes you just end up with very different looking images than before 219

" You can create as many collections as you like, but only two will be displayed on your public contributor page"
So what chance the other have to be seen by buyers? By the way is it worth to move your account to the Adobe Stock site? I'm regularly contributing to Fotolia since 2006 and since it works really well, i've never tried the Adobe Stock site. Fotolia's contributor page is basically the only one which always works flawlessly without anomalies, didn't have stupid design changes over the year, provides quite good information and statistics with reasonable site structure. The only problem is that thumbnails are ridiculously small. Otherwise i wish other contributor site would be as good as Fotolia's. Don't know whats up with Adobe stock. If i validate my user account there, can i still continue using the Fotolia site if i happen to prefer that? 220
General Stock Discussion / Re: POLL: Micro Photo Return Per Image Per Month« on: October 18, 2017, 08:56 »RPI has been steadily going down since 2007, now hovering just above $1. $1 per month? Wow, that's extremely high. People with really commercial portfolios used to report that kind of value around 2007. Nowadays $1 / year seems to be the more average norm 221
Shutterstock.com / Re: What is happening to SS?« on: October 14, 2017, 13:08 »Overall quality on free sites is better than SS. SS have better quality images but you can't see them on the first pages, can't see them on the "new" search. Main problem with SS is - quantity defeated quality. Few of my clients already switched to free sites. But this way it's actually decreasing the value of their collection. The average quality really went down. Many years ago buyers could expect to find quality-checked images in return for paying for the service instead of looking for free files.. Having a firm quality control was that differentiated microstocks from free image sites the most 222

Are buyers really looking at that number? Or is saving on the cost of proper reviewing that significant to them? 223

General Stock Discussion / Re: Worst photo you came acroos on any of the agencies« on: October 14, 2017, 05:24 »https://www.fotolia.com/id/63950072 I actually like this photo a lot. It not that typical, spectacular stock-style image, just a simple shot of a moment. But looking at it really gives me nice, familiar feelings of walking in the fields in winter on an overcast day. Such calmness, cold and space. Now i really started to look forward for these times of the year. I can almost feel the winter smell of this kind of surrounding. But I don't think it will sell-well . Which is a pity. I'd prefer thing like anywhere instead of smiling people |
