Envato / Re: Photodune Tax Problems.
« on: October 02, 2016, 03:13 »

As for the $25 thing... I'm guessing you're a non-exclusive author, as the fees you've had subtracted are pretty high? If you sort the tax thing out, then you'd be getting about $55 rather than $25. And if you go exclusive (and sort the tax thing out) then you'll be getting about $75 rather than $55.
The tax they have been withholding is higher than my actual earnings... How can that be? Why do they put tax withholding on money that I don't even earn?
I'm ending up with 41 cents from a $3 sale. That's 13,6%! Before subtracting 30% that would be 19,5%...

How can $42 of tax be withheld when I receive $25?  That's 62% tax being withheld from sales from which not every one went to the US... I'm confused.

But there's more...
In October I had 2 sales so far. Tax is withheld in both cases. (And why is the amount that high??!!)

According to the earnings page, the two sales came from Canada and Germany!  Why is that amount held back? Am I being screwed here?

I don't understand this..  Am I actually ending up with 41 cents after a medium sale which costs $3?!

To the right of the third option is the option Foreign Tax ID number. Select that and enter your own country's tax number (often your personal social security number).

Yes, I see that, I'm just wondering why shout I give that to Envanto, when no other site needed that to solve the tax withholding issue.
Normally I just proved which country i am from, and that was it, no need for any Id number

Envato / Photodune Tax Problems.
« on: October 01, 2016, 16:04 »
Hi!
I was trying to fill the tax forms for Photodune. I'm not a US citizen, but with my country of residence i get 0% witholding on all sites.

Photodune wants me to add a tax identification number otherwise the witholdin stays.
Isn't there any other option?  There is no other site were I had to give tax ID number, and my tax forms are OK everywhere else.

Any advice?

Yes, they made a capcha yesterday to not let us delete files fast. And also they stopped a counter of images on their site (and adding virtual +1 every 90 sec).

StockSubmitter can not go over capcha but you can run it and when you see that process became slow just delete one file manually (you don't need to stop Submitter for that) and then it will continue.

Oh, thanks for the tip, I didn't realize that i haven't had to stop the stocksubmitter process

Seems like with the Stocksubmitter tool you can 47 in one run now. After that you have to go to the website, deactivate 1 or 2 manually, get through the "i'm not a robot" test, then start the tool again.

Nice (not).
Account deleted from deposit support. All images still online. Not a single word about my earnings / payment.

Probably wouldn't stay long, but you could, for example, post on their facebook page about what a nica company they are...

I've added a tool to deactivate specified amount of files starting from oldest/newest/popular/unpopular in StockSubmitter to help those who's going to join us and deactivate their portfolio on 1st October.

May I ask, how can you do that? On the contributor page I don't find any other option than sorting my files newest first.

October 1 is close, it could be useful to make a separate thread for DP D-day, with informative title.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS September sales down 50%
« on: September 20, 2016, 19:50 »
September is pretty normal so far (but missing some big single and enhanced sales..)

July was a disaster, worst month in many years. You can say it's summer, but I've never seen such drop in the last few years.
August was in between, recovering.

Although September sales seem to be OK, new content doesen't sell at all. And I have lots of images uploaded with big expectations... and nothing.
Seems like something was cut of after spring. Images uploaded until the spring of 2016 sell. Since then, nothing..

Mostly down for me now

I upload new video to SS it was approved I get confirmation email but video is not visible only messages on SS web page. - We're sorry, this clip is no longer available

Any idea why?
Thanks

Happened a lot in the last weeks, you have to wait 1-2 day and it will be fine.
My guess is that they have accepted a huge amounts of videos now as the review time went down from about 2 weeks to about half a day, and the servers cannot keep up with all the new clips.

StockUploader / Re: Fotolia Price Setter
« on: June 18, 2015, 08:11 »
When gaining level the normal procedure was to write to Fotolia support and and they change the prices for you on all files. Did it two times in the past, from 20 to 50, then later to 100.
Isn't it the same anymore?

Pond5 / Re: Pond5: What should we improve?
« on: April 18, 2015, 04:35 »
(I haven't read the whole thread, so don't know if it has been mentioned already.. )

I have a problem that many times a bunch of my photos are put back to editing because title should be longer.
Most agencies want a short, 1-2 words title field and a longer description field. While I really like Pond5, at this rate of sales I'm not sure if it was worth the extra effort to write an extra title for all my files just for Pond5.
Either you should have an option, to mass transfer every file's description to title, or eliminate this policy of having to have long titles.

Shutterstock.com / Re: HUGE UPTICK ON SALES
« on: November 19, 2014, 18:46 »
For me number of sales are not crazy good, but huge SOD downloads are more and more frequent, and my return per download is over $1 nowadays, which is good improvement for SS.

I don't understand the point any more, when people say, they reserve their more interesting shots for Alamy and such, because they  don't want to sell them for $0.38. The truth is, I get more $75-150 sales on Shutterstock  than any kind of sales on Alamy.

Bigstock.com / Re: BigStock Selling HD Videos for $0.15 !!
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:23 »
Our apologies for any confusion. As many of you know, Bigstock is oriented towards the consumer market and independent creatives and the needs of that audience are different than traditional stock footage customers (think of enthusiastic YouTube creators vs. professional video editors). Bigstock is developing a small collection of videos to test how first-time and casual footage customers respond to different entry-level products. The contributors who are participating have all opted-in and all of the content is being appropriately licensed with their consent. The collection will be limited and these early packages represent some initial efforts to test and generate interest in footage among non-traditional buyers. We will continue to work with participating contributors as we learn more about this new market.

Michal on behalf of Bigstock

And how do you stop "traditional buyers" from using this opportunity?

Even if you want to provide a cheaper option for different audienece, why should vidos be cheaper than still images?

Checked, and my videos are not there.

We should find out where do they get the content from. And do the content owners know about this?

« on: November 13, 2014, 05:14 »
If my videos from SS appear there I will certainly cancel my Bigstock account. My 200 videos on Shutterstock earn me several times more monthly than my 7500 images on BS, so it wont be much of a loss.
I really don't understand this. Return per download for videos on Shutterstock is growing nicely, and volume of sales too. Sometimes I get video commissions like  80-150 USD...

Photography Equipment / Re: Going to mirror less
« on: October 21, 2014, 06:17 »
I can see that there are lots of advantages of mirrorless.
How is battery life with these? I have doubts about that as the sensor, processor and lcd/evf have to be working all the time when you compose and change settings.
When traveling with my DSLR I'm sometimes on the same battery for several days. I love it that the camera doesn't even have to be tuned on to look in the viewfinder and check how a scene looks through your lens.
Anyway, with the reduced weight and price of using a mirrorless you can afford to carry a few extra batteries.

And what about lens selection?
If there would be full frame mirrorless which I can use with all EF lenses I would try that.
But as I see, Sony's lens selection is getting better.

323
To me that reads as you get 200% royalty on a 15c image sale, and you get 3% on a $9.80 image sale. For it to be fair, I believe they should make that a fixed percentage rate of the sale, not a fixed dollar rate.

Or they just shouldn't call a 5 or 10 images plan a "subscription". (Fotolia at least started to pay us better for these things after the D-day...  but still something needs to be done about DPC...)

324
How do you know these pay out like that?

In the other thread about this someone quoted an email from them in which they tell it's true

325
I hadn't gotten a sale at FT in a few days (very odd) when I check today my account has "Blocked" next to my Rank Icon.
I tried searching for my images but apparently they have been deleted as well.
I have received no notice from them of their action, but I can imagine it has something to do with the 150+ emails I sent out to contributors urging them to opt out of DPC. Obviously I sent one to a loyal FT minion who outed me to the PTB.
Oh well - fun while it lasted - I'll be out a couple hundred a month but feels good to be done with them.

Silly move from Fotolia. Now you can continue the campaign against DPC just as before, as they can't do anything else to you, no more risk. Yet your interests of being against DPC didn't get any lesser. (Actually it being against DPC is the interest of all contributors who have images on other sites...)
