Hello Lisa, Hope you're well.. just checking on how your site is going? I used the same Ktools site to set up my own small RF site awhile ago. Found it easier to get someone in for a few hours to sort the last PHP issues. Hello Whiz, I too have one of those sites in my collection ( www.royaltyfreesportphotos.com ) though mine is more mid-stock-ish. Not that I really spend any time there!  but the only feed back I get from buyers is there isn't enough stock, never mind if the pic they needed was there or not. So my tip, open it to your friends and get as many pics as possible and you might have a chance. Good luck. JC

Strictly editorial is fine. You might want to try and submit to one of the traditional RM/Editorial agencies in your area as the micros seem a bit paranoid (read: ignorant) when it comes to these things. Doubt you'll get them across the line.

Being upset about pricing/uploading/commissions etc is one thing, but to publicly accuse a corporation of fraud is downright criminal. If your will is so strong, put your money where your mouth is and ask (and pay for) an audit. Most (not all) have policies which allow contributors to pay for an audit and should there be discrepancies of more then 10%, the agency will pay for the audit. ( plus backpay/interest etc.) Enquire about the policies FT has.. you might be surprised. After the audit, come back and let us know how you went.
Trust has always been in a large part of the photo library/agency industry. Photographer have to trust the agency and the client, the agency has to trust the client and the photographer and the client has to trust the agency and the photographer. A bit general... but you get the hint.
Nothing hurts more than to bust your balls for people and to have just one person say the wrong thing and undue years of good work for no reason. Just because someone needed to vent.
Even better.. setup and run your own agency. Chicken.

Hey Azurelaroux... noticed the same thing, but they aren't available to the public. Through the marketplace they are and after emailing them today, there is are new watermarks applied to the images and the right click options have been removed. Good start.
I quite like the site, the people behind it and their vision for the future. Sure it'll take some working, but they've only been "live" for a week. I've written to them twice and have had immediate responses.. even had the CEO ring me overseas to chat. Try that on any other site.
We all talk about how poor the sites generally are, how bad the market is and how to do it better! I said in a thread late last year that people should stop bitching.. and put their money where their mouths are.
Look at the list to the right of this post... seriously, draw a line under BigStockPhoto.. from there down, is there anyone that you really want to support? Personally...I'm tired.
I'm taking my bat and ball somewhere I'd like to play. If you don't want to come, cool. If you have something constructive (not destructive) to say... throw it to these guys as they seem willing to listen and learn.
Ok.. start the bagging now!

Adelaide... the rights have very little to do with the practical aspect of your question. The law is written, but we are more involved with the "business of litigation". In short, the big companies (sporting bodies) will push you because they can, not for any other reason. We have had cases before in this matter in Australia (I'm American living in Aussie land) .. If I own the copyright to the image, I can sell it for personal use to anyone as long as I don't use it commercially or defame the subjects. Argue as some will, but this is done in every country where there are photographers.
The funny thing is I sell most of my prints to athletes (or family members) who see there images published in magazines and want copies to give to their families.. that includes some friends in the last Volvo.

I tried to tell you all before, I do this all the time and as long as it's not for commercial (as defined as promoting a product or service and/or advertising ) purposes, there are no problems what so ever.. contrary to the legal eagles throwing stuff at you.
And just for something different, 8 yrs ago I was involved with using international high profile sporting stars to decorate of all things, a casino. No releases were ever asked for or sought from the athletes. I was nervous, but the casino has very big pockets. In the 8 yrs, every one of the athletes ( and/or family members, agents etc..) have visited this facility for one function or another. Not one complaint. Most have posed for a picture with their image and have signed them. These images are 4 - 10 meters high.
They were simply used a decor prints on the walls of a gaming venue! I'm pretty sure selling a print or 2 of the Volvo is not an issue.. I've also done that. Great pics from these magnificent yachts!

haha... OK RT, I might have generalised slightly, but the tone of this post has been overwhelmingly negative.
Using "Photo Secrets" and then giving you a link with your mug on it it hardly hiding.. really. She also started with "shameless self promotion".. a helluva lot more honest than a lot of nutters coming here trying to flog something don't you think?
Anyway... can some please look at the free stuff and give us a review?

you see Yingyang0... this is exactly what I was talking about. This women has more runs on the board than just about all the photographers here combined. She isn't hiding behind any silly names or trying to deceive anyone. She called a spade a spade.. good on her! And instead of taking it in the manner in which it was intended, every idiot here decides to bash her. Three things.. one, a lot of you made assumptions.. and we all know what happens when you assume! Two, where . are your manners? Didn't your mother tell you if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! and three.. the most obvious of all.. are you guys serious or not? This is a business. You are a business. You are a brand...a representative of that brand and if this is the way you act in public.. you really do need some more education.
I really think a lot of people need to have a serious look at yourselves.. how you represent yourselves here and what YOU say about your brand.
In saying all this, I doubt I'll go to the site...but that's my gig, not yours.
Education is a great thing and all the photographers I know work hard all their lives in learning not just their craft, but life and business. It's the lesson I've learned from representing hundreds of photographers worldwide for the last 25 yrs.
Balance is also a great thing. Close you computers, run outside ...there is a world out there.
Let the bashing of me begin.

Yingyang0... usually on your side as you seem to keep a clear and level head (that must be your legal background). Looks like you've been on this site too long and are getting paranoid that everyone is talking trash but you. Chill and get over it. The question was can I sell a personal print, simple answer is yes. Not going into the specifics of every scenario like your local artist etc... there are no grounds for legal action if I sell the pic to my neighbor to hang in his boat shed. None. My simple answer comment was general and not specific to this post (sorry  )... I read threads that constantly get off track, get nasty and abusive. I once loved to grab a morning coffee and read through the posts as I found them to be informative and entertaining. Now I don't... I hope it's not me?  Yingyang0.. keep up the good work as you're one a the few real legal minds that troll here. If today is beautiful... go for a sail and get out of the office. I've had quite a few of these type of shots accepted into my MS collection. The one to watch ( and fair enough) is IStock. They open the image and move the levels all the way up to see if they can see logos.
If they can, they reject them with the options of resubmitting with no release required.
No problems mate... go for it.

Hey Adelaide, Don't stress... as long as you're selling the prints for "personal use only" there are no problems. I've shot the Volvo racing around the world and have sold many personal prints. In shooting professional sport, read your accreditation terms & conditionals carefully... some sports have added you can't sell personal prints, but not all have these new clauses. Enjoy! I watched (on TV  ) the boats come in and out of Rio and it look beautiful. For some reasons, simple questions can't get simple answers on this site anymore. Cheers, JC

Stock Artists Alliance Director is Resigning
Stock Artists Alliance executive director Betsy Reid, who has been with the organization for seven years, will resign later this month. In an e-mail today, Reid said she is taking a position at the Professional Photographers of America in the Studio Management Services division. PPA is a much larger organization, with 22,000 members.
Reid and the SAA board will work on a transition plan. Whatever their decisions, the SAA has a hard road ahead. After years of working to preserve high-cost, rights-managed licensing, the SAA must face a realty where royalty-free microstock is popular with customers and growing fast.

HAHA! Been there... escaped that! It's not his boxers, it's his heart. It happens too fast to crap yourself, but he'll struggle to bring his heart rate down enough to get another sharp image today.
Funny thing about the guy shooting the vid, in 10yrs of covering rallying around the world fulltime I never came across a photog that had been hit, but plenty of cameramen. Just men, the women aren't that stupid!

Hello Paulie... Serious news/sporting images will never sold in places that don't concentrate solely on news.. that's where AP, Reuters, AFP, McGetty etc. excel. They are truly worldwide and produce the images themselves and don't rely on freelance contributions. They mainly sell their images on subscription services. Don't hold your breath getting in the door with one of the big boys, it might be better to look for something smaller or closer to home. A great resource is www.sportsshooter.com good luck. JC

well I'll have to agree with ichiro17 ... the vid isn't all it's cracked up to be on the D90. Bought one the other day for fun... and whilst I've only used it once, can't say that I'm impressed with the quality, sound or useability (if that's a word?) might take it on the job this weekend and try some "stock" footage and see how we go... ain't holdin' me breath just yet. I was right with you on one of those copyright threads and still can't believe how many knuckleheads here attack the person and not the issues! anyhow.. still having a running battle with IS with regards to property releases. I shoot mainly sport and what images I do send to IS has been altered both in color and content. Without anything being identifiable I get this response
" A model release would be required from each person within the file, a property release would be required for each of the horses, and a property release for the field/location/sporting facility signed by the owner of the field/location/sporting would be required and it is very unlikely that the owners would sign off on such a release for commercial purposes. These regulations are in no way intended to be malicious, these are intended to protect the models, the clients, us and ultimately you. We want all of our contributors to have the smoothest ride possible in their time here at iStock and these files do present copyright concerns."
The most popular images I have on IS are horseracing, but have been trying for months to find something they'll take... not even hooves running on grass! really think they've gone a bit crazy with all this stuff!

man.. I'd love to go for 11 - 17 days in line if they started accepting my images again! another 15 images reviewed in just a few days. 100% rejection!!! It seems they have become hypersensitive to property and model releases erring on the side of hysteria! I have an a horse racing image that has been downloaded more than 1000 times  and since that has gone up.. not 1 horse racing image has ever been accepted. The rejections are not for technical reasons, just model releases. The images being rejected have absolutely no faces whatsoever and have the colours changed to protect the identity.. but nothing, not a single sporting image. Sort of sucks when that's the main thang you shoot.. so if they're accepting your subjects, I'd be happy to wait. JC

to me, this is becoming some bad Irish joke. (no offense to all our Irish friends here)
You happly sent me the links to download your product once again.. I've just tried it twice and I get the same message each time and I don't care which computer in my office I try.. everytime I try and open the .exe file I get " The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program." here we go again!
Between your attitude towards photogs here and the fact I can't even get an uncorrupted setup file.. I'm suggesting to others ... this my not be worth the headaches, but that's just my opinion.
If you can't get this part right.. I hate to think what the rest of the programs' like.
Good luck... I think you might need it.
