Microstock Services / Re: Prostockmaster WOW!
« on: September 15, 2008, 17:57 »
what sport fans...  you throw a product out there and the first time someone says something you don't like..  loads of new members come on to bash the crap out of them.  Take it one the chin... learn from it and better your product.

Your attitude will help sway a lot of people towards your product.  and if you can't take criticism, this really isn't the game for you.

Twice when you've started this "buy my product" thread, I've headed to your site and have tried to download the trial version.  Each time I've downloaded the trial software to 3 computers and 3 times the files have been corrupted.  No trial yet... 2 outs, bottom of the 9th.    Ball is on your hands.

I don't have the time in my life to chase you...THAT'S NOT MY JOB!  if your product / software doesn't work, I move on... simple as that.  No complaints..

Do your job with style and grace...  loads more people will respect you and your product.

My 2 cents.     Cheers,  JC

Photoshop Discussion / Re: Cars reflection
« on: August 31, 2008, 22:08 »
Hello Vonkara...

if you don't have control of the cars you're shooting, then you're SOL.  If you do have control, take your cars to the widest field (carparks also work) you can find either early morning or late, late afternoon and shoot from a level that takes out the horizon.... or hire a car studio and "control" your reflection.   Those are the only 2 things I've been able to do with cars...   good luck.

The clouds don't put you're image off, just the other cars and buildings in the shot do.

cheers. JC

Microstock Monitor / Microstock monitor with Firefox?
« on: August 31, 2008, 21:54 »
Hi guys...hopefully I haven't missed something but my Firefox/3.0.1/ no longer supports Microstock Monitor.. has anyone else come across this?  I tried uploading the newest version, but that didn't work either.

And whilst we're at it...  is there a way of dropping the sites you no longer want to see there like LO and Geeko?

Thanks.  JC

exactly Dave...  W-8BEN  has NOTHING TO DO WITH WITHHOLDING TAX.   Withholding tax on royalty/commission via worldwide tax treaty is 10% ..  30% is a penalty, not a tax...  and is not payable...  been through it with the IRS .

JC (from USA living in AUS)

Bateleur...  as you can see ..  this will just keep going.  I'm out, good luck.
cheers,  JC

an US based micros?

we're currently with RF and separate RM agencies in the US and don't have this issue..  only one corporation to date and that was enough for us!

The funny thing there... is only one staff member was trying to enforce it and the rest of the admin staff didn't think it was required.

31
hey Gizeh... which sites have made you fill in this paperwork to get paid?

32
sharpshot...you're sort of right..  but you are not required to be registered within the US tax system if they are not withholding any tax.  If they are...no problems.  If they're not...it's not required.. simple as that.   Because once you're registered as a nonresident foreigner earning money in the US ..even though you're not being taxed and are required to claim the income within your own tax system..  the IRS will require you to file each year.

Crazy...but true.

33
Bateleur...  my strong suggestion is to NOT upload at all or pull your images from PhotoShelter.   Any US company that requires you to fill this in..and they ARE NOT witholding tax, has no real understanding of their own (and international) tax laws.

Earlier this year I finished a 6-month fight with Disney Corp over the same issue of us filling in a W-8BEN.  Slightly different scenario...  They came to a foreign country, bought  an image then refused to pay on the basis of us not having this certificate. They bought the same image for years, then one guy  (that's all it takes) comes in and and says they the "rights" not to pay us if we don't comply with US tax laws.
The transaction happened in Australia, not the USA...  but one apple can spoil the whole bunch.  ....   run...  far away.  it's not worth the hassle.. trust me on this one.

And no... you REALLY don't need one..  But if you find someone who says you do, you will not change their minds.

Just my 2 cents worth!!    Cheers,  JC

Bigstock.com / Re: BigStock 3 month policy and DT sell right
« on: June 18, 2008, 17:59 »
hello Abey and welcome!

for my 2 cents... you might try thinking about your images and where you want to place them before you upload.   Separate your RM, RF (macro) and your micro images.    Images you don't mind loosing (that's complete control) send them to micro.   If you think there is a slim chance they could go further... then never place them in micro.  Instead find an alternative RF distributor that puts a higher value ($$) on the image and allows for more control.

as I said, my 2 cents worth.   Enjoy the ride.

I think I'm missing the point.. :-\     aren't you trying to sell images?  if so...  even if your name comes up..  what are you hiding from?   as they say, any publicity is good publicity!

Just smile and wave boys!

PS. tried it for me and it doesn't work in the 1st 5 pages...  ain't no one looking beyond that.

General Stock Discussion / Gecko a goner!
« on: June 03, 2008, 05:44 »
just in:

Hi
It is with great regret that i shall have to close Geckostock.
All images will be deleted from disk this week.
Any payments due will be paid over the next few weeks.

The site went down yesterday and i decided not to try and get things running due to low sales.
I can't see any future in the site.

I would like to thank you all for your past support and for allowing Geckostock the right to show your images.
Those of you that worry about your images please don't the disk will have a full reformat and your images will never be used or saved in any way.

I would like to ask newcomers to Geckostock and the world of stock in general please don't be put off by your experience at Geckostock and to upload to other stock sites as you maybe more succesfull. Please try new sites as they maybe more successful than Geckostock.

I think a whole new way of selling stock is needed for the success of a new site. This may come soon!

I have enjoyed the time spent with all the contributors and learnt so much.

Thank you and good luck with sales.

yes... Kinya has been in contact with us and we are looking at distributing our RF (Macro) range through them.  They've been very good at answering questions and sorting through issues with us.. so, just might give them a fair go..  They have nothing to do with micro..  at all.

Will let you know how we go.

Cheers,  JC

Which model and year STI is that?   ;)

Congrats! and welcome to the world of long lenses!!!  You'll love it...   and the new outlook on life..  try it with everything you do including landscapes..  just remember with glass that long you really, really need to watch your shutter speeds at all times!  Other than that...enjoy!

My standard lenses are from 400 - 600mm ... and the 500 is the best versatile long glass as it's the only one in a pinch you CAN handhold!   In a few months you'll laugh when you use your 70-200 and it feels like a wide angle!!

Cheers, JC

Lou... trade you, it's 13 degrees (C) on a rainy Monday morning!

oh yes..  sales have been consistant.. no great changes with current ranking continually falling.  Now on 208..  LOL, I've never believed these numbers so 208 means absolutely nothing...  really.   This should be more of a concern to photogs : www.stockphototalk.com read the leading article on FT.

Madelaide (are you actually in Adelaide?)

Nope... I have no problems with filters (I have 3 kids)  ;)

BUT, this string was started about the content, NOT filters... and that has been my point all along....and that's why I congratulated Mantonino when the real issue was addressed.

In the meantime.. it's fun to be told I'm not serious and I need to grow up..

I found nothing wrong with the content, as long as it's used in context...  and for the seriously prude amongst us, with filters.

Is that better windmill?

Cheers.  JC

yep, I 'm here to sell nudes..  ???  whatever!  have a look before you open your mouth and don't take yourself too seriously windmill.   There is a time and a place for all images..  your cup of tea just may not be mine, but I won't go crying if you serve tea I don't like.  I'll Simply be a grown up and order the tea I'd like..  It's not too hard really.

cheers for now..   ;D ;D ;D

PS.  Grow up?  FO...  never!! ;)

this is too much fun really!!   I was having a good laugh WITH Mantonino... not AT him! I love people who take the piss out of themselves...really!

But if your concern is that you can download 3 pics that aren't suitable to have at work ... THEN WHAT . ARE YOU DOING SEARCHING AND DOWNLOADING IMAGES UNSUITABLE AT WORK IN THE FIRST PLACE!!?  fool. :P

Certainly don't blame the site if you're out being a naughty boy ... simple as that.   There is unsuitable content all over the internet, in magazines, TV..videos..cds.. you just need to use your judgement, a little commonsense goes a long way....and helps you to keep your day job so you can come on here and play in this safe world with no stress.

If the content is not for your liking on TV, do you write and bag the tv station?  Turn the dial.

good night Irene..  now mate...where were those pics again?  ;)

LOL!!!  HAHAHA...  Mantonino..  please don't sell yourself short, if you found (nude) images on MostPhotos wrong.. then you are prude! Stand up and be proud.. ;)

It's great to see a site that doesn't cave into the American (sub)standards and has the balls (sorry, no pun intended  :-[) to show what the rest of the world likes and uses.  After checking  your folio, they not be your cup of tea..  but I saw nothing wrong, quite the contrary..  in the first ten pages I saw a lot of very beautiful images.  Images that even you would be proud to have shot!

Having your images thrown off sites because you uploaded a nipple is what is wrong.

Look, enjoy and be inspired.

as my 6yr old son just told me..  "peace, love and have a good day"

cheers. JC
