I know this isn't stock related but many people use PayPal to receive money.
I just wanted to make sure everyone knows this can happen now.

General Stock Discussion / Who Partners with ThinkStock
« on: January 01, 2022, 18:55 »
Hello and Happy New year everyone!
I don't sell on istock or thinkstock but one of my photos keeps giving credit to my name and Thinkstock on my Google alerts.
Does anyone know what agencies partner with Thinkstock?

General Stock Discussion / Envato Author Identification
« on: April 28, 2021, 08:06 »
Has anyone gotten an email from envato for an "Author Identification" check?
When I log into my envato account, I don't see anything about it and am afraid to click on the link from my email and don't want my account paused. They only gave me 4 days to do it and it will take 5 days for envato to respond to my concern.

General Stock Discussion / MISC 1099 from Igniter Stock LLC
« on: January 28, 2021, 11:54 »
Hi Everyone,

I got an email from Igniter Stock LLC saying my 1099 is ready to download but I don't want to click on the link. It doesn't say what agency it is from.

Does anyone know what agency this is?

General Stock Discussion / Photographing Families Again
« on: July 21, 2020, 12:21 »
Hi everyone, I'm not sure how many of you have started photographing weddings, newborns or families again but how are your feelings about it? I'm not sure if it's safe to start because I am very hands-on when I photograph families. I also sweat and move around a lot and wearing a mask will be challenging. I heard that business can be sued too if they believe they got covid-19 as a result from their business.

Maybe I'm being paranoid. How is everyone else dealing with getting back to work? I'm not sure what to tell clients.

General Stock Discussion / Legal Name on Shutterstock Preview
« on: March 02, 2020, 11:16 »
Has anyone noticed that Shutterstock's watermark preview has your legal name on the image?
You have to click on the image for the enlargement to see ...

Is this new? Why don't they use your username? I like to go by my username for my stock business.

General Stock Discussion / Say Bye to Opting-Out
« on: February 24, 2020, 12:13 »
Is anyone else opted out of sensitive use and enhanced licenses on SS?

I just got the email that they are no longer permitting it. I'm upset as the royalties for EL's are extremely low. They use to be awesome but those days are long gone.

I feel like more changes may be coming too with the new shakeup. Any thoughts?

The new Adobe Stock is very frustrating for buying photos compared to Fotolia. Before I could just buy a photo with my credits earned. I can't even select a size or see pricing credits for images anymore. They keep wanting me to buy a subscription.

Am I doing something wrong? I  really need to buy 1 single photo for a client and it isn't letting me use my credits to buy 1 photo anymore. I can't select a size or anything. Did they eliminate sizes?

Am I doing something wrong? Any other Photographers who are also Designers?

General Stock Discussion / Anyone sell at Blend?
« on: July 05, 2018, 21:49 »
I'm trying to find a good rm agency. I'm really drawn into Blend (or SuperStock)

I read on this forum that you need to have "diverse/ethnic" images to get into Blend but I don't always see this in the search results.

Do they only want ethnic images?

I just joined Snapwire to submit images to the library (not the Requests).
https://www.snapwi.re/marketplace

Their marketplace has some great images but when I asked about Exclusivity this is what they said:
"We only require exclusivity for Premium photos which are manually chosen and tagged by our curators."

I then asked what if my image gets selected as premium and it is NOT exclusive ...
"You will be notified when a photo of yours become Premium. If you don't want the exclusivity, you may simply delete the photo from your portfolio and reupload. :)"

Does this seem a bit odd? I have to delete images if they get selected as premium and then upload them again. What if they get chosen again as premium? Seems like there should be an option to check if it is exclusive.

Hi everyone,
I'm sure a lot of you do paid gigs for families, seniors, newborns on the side ...
One of my past clients wanted to submit one of my photos I took of her children to a contest where they win money.

What is the normal protocol on that type of thing? She wanted me to sign authorization to let her submit it.

How do you handle it?

Hi guys, I'm opted out of SS's EL's and someone needs an extended license for print (500 or 1000 copies).
I was thinking $100. What does the average person charge?

I always appreciate your input. If SS didn't lower their EL commission, I wouldn't have to think about this.

General Stock Discussion / Anyone Sell on Blend Images?
« on: June 19, 2017, 13:33 »
Hi everyone,

Does anyone sell on blend images? I have a bunch of exclusives I don't know what to do with.
It looks like they do royalty free and exclusive:
https://www.blendimages.com/stock-image-pricing

Do I get to decided if the image(s) goes royalty free or rights managed?

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

General Stock Discussion / 123rf (evo) Collection
« on: June 16, 2017, 21:38 »
I saw an ad for 123's "premium" Evo collection of images.

Do you think this is a new trend for agencies now - creating sub domains with "premium" images. Perhaps they see they are accepting all the garbage so this is their solution?

General Stock Discussion / New to VideoBlocks
« on: June 09, 2017, 16:39 »
Hi everyone. I created an account for videoblocks today. I'm still confused how you get 100% ... What is the catch?
$45 for HD is AMAZING!

Many talk about this website but I never really looked into it.

Does anyone sell or make money with photos too? I guess they also sell photos for $4
Pond5 is great for video but horrible with photo sales. Is this the same for VideoBlocks?

Any important points I should know about?

General Stock Discussion / 123RF MISC 1099 are Now Available
« on: April 13, 2017, 11:11 »
Just so everyone knows, 123 has provided a MISC 1099 for 2016 (Late).

I now have to file an amended return. My amended return looks exactly the same as my original but if I don't claim that MISC 1099 I could get a penalty and a bill from the IRS. (I originally claimed 123's income in OTHER gross income received).

18
I've been waiting a long time for my MISC 1099 from 123 to finish my taxes and they gave me a 1042s. I've never seen this. Gross income says $0.00 too. What is that about?

Why did they change it?

I never know what to say when I get emails from potential customers for custom work and the first they they say is "I don't have a big budget"...

Any tips or suggestions on how to answer? I don't want to sound rude but it seems so many people "have a small budget" for photography/graphic design work. Some requests are so insulting, I don't even reply back.

Do people assume because you sell micro, you will accept "pennies". I don't know ... Any thoughts?

General Stock Discussion / Need Your Opinion on Premium Agencies
« on: February 17, 2017, 22:11 »
I'm doing a lot of research on the Macro world and would like your opinion or thoughts on which one is the best or the worst.

I have hundreds of images waiting to be uploaded but Stocksy is not open for submission. I have it narrowed down to these agencies.
1. imagesource.com
2. blendimages.com
3. inmagine.com

Quick note: Apparently, MS (microstock) is not interchangeable with Royalty Free. The macro agencies really hate micro. I have sister images that have never seen micro but since the "mother" was on micro, I can't upload any of them - such a shame.

I have happily been accepted to arcangel and very excited but some of my images are just not the right "fit" and you are stuck in a 3 year contract so I have to be careful about which ones go on.

Any thoughts or suggestions would make me so happy. All of the blogs seem to be outdated.

General Stock Discussion / Strange Email about My Image
« on: November 29, 2016, 12:07 »
Hi everyone,
I'm flipping out right now and wonder what the heck is going on.

I got a "donotreply" email notification from FAA with a message about one of my images on SS. It says:
"I'm contacting you in  concern with this image on shutterstock  which we believe and have full evidence to be taken from us,so I'm asking you to take it down as soon as possible or we will be taken legal action against you in the state of NY".

It was from a hotmail address too...

I don't understand! I made this in Photoshop with a layer mask years ago. All the photos are of me, husband and my kids!

Are they trying to hack my account? I'm very worried. Are "add icons" copyrighted? It is on the keyboard - is the word "friends" copyrighted? Should I just delete it so they don't cause me problems. It doesn't even sell that much.

There was no mention of a business name or anything and I'm very worried. I responded to them and said the image is mine and to clarify the problem.

Any advice?

General Stock Discussion / Buyer Wants me to Send High Res file
« on: November 18, 2016, 15:37 »
I'm opted out of extended licenses and a buyer contacted me about using one of my images for a book. I was happy to be contacted but then they wanted me to send a low resolution copy of it. I mentioned they can just use the watermark preview (which is high quality). Then they emailed today asking for the high resolution file. I said I can't send it before payment is made and they said Shutterstock gives customers high resolution images. She said they can't pay me before it is published.

It all seems very strange to me... Anyone ever had this happen?

General Stock Discussion / Printing Our Images as Backdrops
« on: September 27, 2016, 06:51 »
Hi everyone,
I have been finding a lot of my images being printed off as actual backdrops - some as big as 10ft x 10ft. Does Shutterstock allow this kind of use with their standard license? Would they need to buy it again every time someone orders it? I have never had an EL for one image in particular. The person said they bought it from Shutterstock.

I emailed SS but who knows how long to hear something back ...

Any license experts?

General Stock Discussion / Adobe Stock Fashion - Mockery
« on: September 17, 2016, 08:53 »
Hi everyone,

I saw this on Bored Panda:
http://www.boredpanda.com/adobe-stock-apparel-clothing-line/

They are not actually for sale but it is making fun of stock.

Sometimes I feel embarrassed to say I do stock photography - like it is becoming a joke. I take it very seriously ... Maybe I'm too sensitive ...

General Stock Discussion / Alamy's "Additonal Revenue Options"
« on: September 06, 2016, 12:42 »
Hi everyone, I started uploading to Alamy a couple of months ago. I have had 6 sales with 155 mages. Their keywording is a real pain or else I would have more up...

I have opted OUT of the "additional revenue options"
 - Distribution, Novel Use, UK Newspaper Scheme

My question is, is it worth it to be opted in? Is there some scary fine print I don't know about? FYI, I have opted out of SS extended licenses because I refuse to earn $12 or less for an EL.

Any suggestions? Do you earn pennies for opting in?
