General Stock Discussion / Re: Photographing Families Again
« on: July 21, 2020, 13:25 »
Thanks for the info Matt. I'm in New York. It's been rough.

I'm not sure what I should say to a family that wants me to photograph them next month. I can't afford to meet with a lawyer either to have a new contract written out. I have heard congress is trying to get some protection for businesses getting sued in the event they say they got the virus from you (your business).

2020 has been a very hard year for sure. Losing Shutterstock's income has been a blow to my finances too.

General Stock Discussion / Photographing Families Again
« on: July 21, 2020, 12:21 »
Hi everyone, I'm not sure how many of you have started photographing weddings, newborns or families again but how are your feelings about it? I'm not sure if it's safe to start because I am very hands-on when I photograph families. I also sweat and move around a lot and wearing a mask will be challenging. I heard that business can be sued too if they believe they got covid-19 as a result from their business.

Maybe I'm being paranoid. How is everyone else dealing with getting back to work? I'm not sure what to tell clients.

General Stock Discussion / Re: So where are we at now?
« on: July 01, 2020, 22:40 »
I'm not going to lie, it is very hard to lose that 3 digit monthly income but I refuse to sell my photos for 10 cents. SS only gave a week notice which is so shameful, not even a 30 day notice. Makes me sick and to see his twitter account makes me more angry. I do not wish to support a company like this.

29
I turned my portfolio off May 31 and it stays off until I see something positive happen - perhaps the old rates plus a tier or two above the previous maximums?
Same. I'm never turning it back on at the current rates.

30
This is really making me happy how we are all sticking together and disabling! (I disabled May 31 at Level 5). Thank you everyone for making the hard decision.

31
All of our videos now also turned off at Shutterstock. Awaiting some answers from Pond5 but we will probably go exclusive for video there shortly.
I just went exclusive with video at Pond5. I created a new account then emailed them with the new account info and they migrated my files over to my new, exclusive account.

32
Thanks for letting me know about the link Snow :)

It's going to be really hard for me losing the income every month and they only gave us a 6 day notice! I wish they would have given contributors more time before rolling out the new royalties.

Please keep us posted on how WIX goes for you. I was thinking about doing Shopify but I'm not so great at the marketing side of things.

I disabled my portfolio on May 30th. I did update my profile photo with your .10 cent photo and added the new info to my bio.

I am referring people to dreamstime. I've always loved this company.

Just be careful, even though you have taken your media off @shutterstock it is still searchable on @Google and the item can still be added to the SS cart. But you will not see the sale, SS take the sale you get nothing. This applies if you didn't opt out of licensing first so it may not apply to everyone. I terminated my account over two months ago when they showcased the new low video sub plan. This is my work on found on Google

 https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=Weeds+growing+through+concrete+ground+shot+background+stock+footage&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Weeds growing through concrete ground shot background stock footage. It can still be purchased on Shutterstock without any royalties going to me.

Just a heads up

You are right! This is insane. So even if I disable my port, SS can still collect money on my work via google ...

Love DT!

36
I've been with them since 2008 with 226,737 lifetime downloads.

It's going to be so difficult for me to end my relationship with SS on June 1st but it has become an abusive relationship (financially) and I see it continually going down now.

The problem is Adobe Stock never took off for me after Fotolia...

Im appalled by all this.

I cant really afford to disable my portfolio, but I will do if it may help enact some kind of change.

Its currently hard to be hopeful, but this feels like the last stand.

I can't really afford to disable my portfolio (especially during this time) but I'm going to. We need to act collectively to be heard.

It's going to be really hard for me but I will disable my portfolio on June 1st. I'm on level 5 too but I believe that I have to stand up to this. Having to start over every year is such a kick to the back.

This is horrible news! To go from earning .38 cents to .15 cents every January will really affect my earnings.

It's not too bad for me so far. I deleted half my portfolio after they forced the Sensitive Use terms onto our portfolios so I was expecting much worse. It was going down even before the pandemic though.

Who knows, they hung up on me and won't answer my emails anymore.

Envato / Re: Help: My 1099 doesn't make sense
« on: April 25, 2020, 12:21 »
They are a little funky.

I just take their MISC 1099 amount and subtract that amount from the PayPal amount for the year and put the difference in the fees or commission on my schedule C.

It isn't right they include their "fees" on your 1099.

123RF / Re: US Tax form 1099 from 123RF
« on: April 14, 2020, 15:17 »
I have emailed them repeatedly for it. I even called this morning and they hung up on me. I called back and he put me through to voice mail.

I waited 2 months to file waiting for 123rf MISC -1099 and today I had to file. I did not want to file an extension with my state.

Every other agency is perfect but them. So I'm sure on April 16 they will have it out and then I will have to file an amended return to update the new 1099. (I've reported the income but it is just in another section of my schedule C).

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock "Losing" Model Releases?
« on: April 07, 2020, 08:46 »
Mine was an old one but then I did an updated release and made sure everything was neat and legible and filled out to perfection, they accepted it on an image uploaded on Saturday and rejected it yesterday on another image! So apparently model releases are hit and miss ... They are good one day of the week, then not good (then probably good again).

45
Overall, I'm happy with them. Just a few issues here and there ...

46
I joined. Is there anyway to have the "call for content" not be a PDF link but rather text?

I haven't had that happen but they are saying all of a sudden a model release is "invalid" which is frustrating.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Taxes 2020
« on: April 02, 2020, 12:36 »
Just to keep everyone posted this is what they said to me:

"We apologize for the delay.

Kindly note that your 2019 tax statement will be made available via the Tax Center page. The Team is doing their best to provide them next week.
Link: https://www.123rf.com/tax/index.php

Kindly check then for updates on your tax statement."

NEXT WEEK? It just seems so unfair to people who need to file their return.

Here is a helpful link about New York if you are self employed.

https://labor.ny.gov/ui/pdfs/self-employed-ui-guide.pdf

50
I've been looking into this and it's called the CARES act.  I'm in NY

https://labor.ny.gov/ui/cares-act.shtm
https://labor.ny.gov/ui/faq.shtm

From what I read, it sounds like you can apply because of the CARES act if you are self-employed but I still have questions. What if you are taking in some income? I still sell some stock but cannot shoot model and families anymore.

If anyone has more info I would love to hear. Apparently you can't get through to call.
