PhotoDune / Re: Submissions and access gone at Envato
« on: November 16, 2016, 04:26 »
My images have been in their queue for over 20 days. Now we know why.
All sites evolve, for good or for worse, we roll with it or roll away.

77
ok my bad, i was searching videos!! DOH. i see them now.

Last question, how can we tell which sales were FT or AS? ive looked at my commissions and it doesnt say.

78
Thanks Sean.

So does the DPC setting in fotolia do anything now?

Also if they automatically all go over, how come i cant find them on AS, and my search word was pretty unique.

79
Hi

Ive read a lot on here about fotolia and adobe stock, but (ok i know im late), i still cant tell if my port automatically gets added on Adobe stock or not.

Does it make a difference on the setting on Fotolia for DPC, which ive just switched on ON?

I did a search on AS but so far cant find any
thanks if you know anything

iStockPhoto.com / Istock and Getty
« on: January 29, 2016, 11:04 »
Hi

Maybe I should take more notice of whats going on, but....
If my images are on Istock, and Getty is a partner, is Getty selling images as microstock? or is Getty selling my images as another type of licence?

81
We are an intelligent bunch of people, it would not take much to setup a dedicated independent central body we all subscribe to that looks after our rights and acts as a central go between, between contributors and resellers.

Microstockgroup is half way there is terms of popular and independent.

Another poll, would you pay $10 a year to subscribe to a independent agency that looks after the rights on microstock contributors?

10k people join = $100,000 revenue to run it. Its pretty simple stuff.
100k people join = 1m a year to run it
that's 100k people with one voice, that's powerful.

82
they have changed their policy for deleting images, when they announced a 100 image limit for 90 days I knew they were safeguarding themseleves for communicating bad news
That's fine, 90 days is nothing, bad publicity and no new uploads is instant (when organised)

Can we start a poll on who would or wouldn't take part in a weeks upload boycott if there was no proper dialogue to contributors and explanation about plans on how our image sales are dealt with?

83
The thing with a boycott in submitting for 1 week or 1 month, means its not harming the contributor, you haven't pulled your whole port, its not harming SS... massively.

The great thing with it is, it shows force in numbers, it shows cohesion, and it shows we are willing to come together. At the moment its totally fragmented.

I would be very happy to have a boycott period, to help us come together as a single force. Its a bit like a one day strike for national workers, its not going to affect anyone dramatically, but it gets headlines, it gets people together for the common good.

We deserve some respect. YOU deserve some respect.

Can you image in the headlines when SS didn't get a single upload for a week? or a least the headlines when new uploads were 50% down in protest?

I wouldn't expect massive payrises, but id want a proper dialogue and to see some sort of plan some justification. If all this happened in a physical workplace, employers wouldn't last long.

Remember, they are nothing without us, we are something without them.

84
So I assume the price of EL's to SS customers didn't change? just our rate? And some excuse that as we are taking less of a cut, it allows them to sell more?

Obviously they don't like to engage in conversation these days, because they just cant justify what they do without annoying everyone. I assume the mentality is, "if we don't engage, the quicker it will be accepted" that's what I would do if I was doing something negative and unjustifiable to people.

It would be really nice to see someone man up and just be adult about it, and say "yes its a unfortunate but it is a reduction in revenue for contributors".

We should be able to demand some information, after all we are employing SS to represent our images to customers, for a percentage of the sales. They sell our goods for US. If we all decided not to contribute a single new image for a week, i'm sure that would open up some dialogue.

Hi

The figures I see on SS for Enhanced licences currently are (UK), and contributor cut are...

EL
2 Pack 119   (20%=23.80, 25%=29.75, 30%=35.70)
5 Pack 269  (20%=53.80, 25%=67.20, 30%=80.70)
25 Pack 1019  (20%=203.8, 25%=254.75, 30%=305.70)
I don't know how this works (never checked) in terms of pack numbers, if I have one image in a '2 pack' sale, do I get half of 119?

I don't know if those EL costs are before or after any change though, and then there's the exchange rate...

? You seem to be calculating what the percentages are of the total paid for an image pack. You need to divide the figures by the number of images in the pack for each EL sale.

So for 25 pack from your figures at 20% you will be getting (1019/25)*.2=8.15 per EL

Hi

Yes I thought that might be the case, how did it work before, we got $28 for each image in an EL pack?

Panthermedia.net / Remuneration date still broken
« on: October 13, 2015, 08:03 »
Hi
Who else knows the date selector on the "Remuneration overview" page doesn't work.
It doesnt work AT ALL on a MacBook, even if you type it in.

Ive reported it since January (may and Oct) to Panthermedia, they say "we know its broken but its not a priority"

Great answer.

Anything that makes a site more difficult, is just another reason not to use it.

Did this affect you?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Autumn - Bigger Sales
« on: August 10, 2015, 11:57 »
Sounds pretty similar for me too.
But id like to know if people tailor their uploading accordingly, ie upload more the 'peak' selling times, and upload less in the perceived slower months?
I know some people upload seasonal images months or even a year in advance, aparently

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Sales dried up?
« on: July 09, 2015, 10:20 »
If seasonal is a factor, compare with same time last year and year before etc.
Seasonal is one of many various factors, and everyone's experience will be different

Got an image rejected as it wasnt marked as 'illustration'
Possibly fair point as it was heavily manipulated photographic image.

Checked with SS support and yes should have been 'illustration' (even though similar images have been accepted as non illustration for years)

So resubmitted as illustration, and guess what, rejected as incorrectly submitted as illustration!!

How are we supposed to get it right when support and reviewers cant even agree!!

Photography Equipment / Re: lowpro trekker 300 AW bag
« on: January 05, 2015, 14:34 »
hi Les
thanks for your detailed reply, i might not use the hydration pack as i often need hot drink as its usually cold weather.
i dont think ill bother with taking it to a store to get adjusted, i cant see them being to pleased with that lol, as i bought it online.
Will have to adjust and test.
I think theres a market for a hip flask shaped water bottle or flask as that shape would fit better in a side pocket of a back pack. Can only find cheap rubbish ones that i tried which failed not long after.

Photography Equipment / lowpro trekker 300 AW bag
« on: January 03, 2015, 17:39 »
hi

Just ordered this camera bag, it comes with a hydration pouch for a 70 oz hydration reservoir (not supplied)

Having never used a hydration reservoir, anyone know what one would fit best? it looks like 70 oz's come in different physical sizes.
Anyone use hydration reservoirs?

thanks for any help.

personally I backup everything I can, but delete what is rubbish first. inc raws, tiffs, PSD's anything.
My upload speed is about 8mb/s. If you have upload of 1mb/s online backup is going to be painful, unless you really limit what you are going to backup.

98
Took me 6 weeks to backup about 400Gb to backblaze (wasnt continously running).
Now im going to delete it and find something else, that actually DOES archival ie like crashplan.

I do also have a USB3 portable HD for backup but we all know that could die at any time.

99
Hi
Im about to backup online, but theres alot of choice, alot of pricing, and alot of difference features.

I used Backblaze for a few months only to find out if i delete a folder from my PC, 30 days later its deleted from my online backup!
I looked at crashplan only to read in the small print, they will only ship a HD with your data (for a price) to the USA. I'm UK.

You really need to read the small print with these things as its not a thing you want to change very often.

All input welcome.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Image infringements claims
« on: August 01, 2014, 06:28 »
I find thousands of my images in use all over the place. When I have time I select the odd few and verify with the buyer that they have a licence (and the correct licence). Obviously if i find an possible infringement, they would be one of the few, I havent yet had a buyer not willing cooperate and prove a licence. Thats because I selected well.

I'm not sure going about the internet, harassing what are probably legitimate buyers, is a good idea.  If you're that concerned, maybe RM is a better bet.

If you approach it from a 'harrasing' point of view, I would give up now.
