Canva / Re: Canva 1.9% commission?
« on: October 08, 2022, 04:59 »
Are you sure it's 60 USD and not another country's dollar?

Edit: something seems off in the display of these sale prices. Last month I apparently had a "$3,900" sale with $0.38 commission
So either the currency is displayed the wrong way (it used to be other currencies) or the dollar amount is off.

Is there anyway to crop and save a PNG file so it has no transparent container/box(like a circle is just a circle, not a circle inside a transparent box)?
I'm trying to use PNGs as web buttons and the transparent box surrounding the image is being registered. If I create a link it will be active as soon the cursor hits a transparent area of the container, before it hits the actual graphic I want to use as a button.

Photoshop has a Trim option, so any excess space around the object can be trimmed.

A new low on Pond5: a video listed as $79 gets sold for $7.74....Netting me $3.10

What a joke.

Oh by the way, the previous arrangement/deal they had was with Getty so in a way, partnering with Shutterstock in providing licensed assets for Fiverr sellers is better. Shutterstock sucks, but Getty sucks harder.

155
From what I've understood, Fiverr sellers can now directly incorporate images, video and music in their work (in certain gig categories) when a buyer orders their gig by adding 'custom extras' to the order for $x per SS asset*, and these assets will be available ("Powered by Shutterstock") through an integrated search interface (API) on the Fiverr platform. They can also use watermarked versions for preview versions of their work, and upon finalizing the actual license will be purchased.

Basically it's the buyer who pays for the license. I assume Fiverr has a special deal, so my guess is that SS sellers will receive the minimum royalty for each item sold.
Interestingly, Fiverr explains: "If you need to download the asset again, the seller will only have up to 8 hours to do so. After 8 hours from the initial download, sellers will lose the option to access it again, and will need to ask the buyer to repurchase it." So we might receive multiple purchases of the same image due to the 8 hours limit.

The "I will provide stock images" gigs shown in Jo Ann's screenshot are a violation of the Terms of Service (of both Fiverr and Shutterstock) and as such they're not allowed, but some of these slip through the cracks.

*) Fiverr prices:
Images : $2 per image
Music: $3 per track
Video: $5 per video

Not sure how Fiverr or SS intend to handle refunds of Fiverr deliveries. It says: "Once the cancellation is approved, the purchased licenses will not be valid anymore, even if the delivery includes the licensed media assets."
So the buyer gets his money back (including the extra fees paid for the SS assets) and the SS license will no longer be valid, but I assume SS sellers will not get those refunds and Fiverr will pay for the expenses.

Edit:
I'm not sure if this really benefits SS sellers. Most Fiverr sellers who use stock media (in their work, not resellers) already have some sort of subscription (either at SS or another agency), so using the SS API via Fiverr is not beneficial to these sellers. Perhaps the existence of this API makes it easier for all parties to use stock media, and it might incline other Fiverr sellers to upsell their gigs with SS media, so we might see a small boost from that.

There is nothing to be proud about if you give your work away for free.

But it will certainly become a competitor for vector graphics.

I disagree, vectors will always be more versatile and editable than a raster image.

Hello Lima,

No need to re-upload your vectors as PNG. If your vectors don't have a background and have an artboard/canvas of ~10MP, we'll automatically process a transparent PNG version of them as an option for customers. As we're doing currently when offering JPG's on top of the Vector download. At first this option might only appear for recent vector uploads, we'll process the backlog as we can.

Oh okay.

Will these PNGs be listed separately when the buyer filters them in search, or will they be displayed as an option in the vector listing?

I've just uploaded a small batch of transparent PNG versions of some old vectors. Although I agree the customer shouldn't be confused or misled by temporary jpeg versions of the PNGs, I think getting in early will indeed be beneficial. But the PNG feature launch should be asap to avoid any angry customers.

I would stick to maybe 10-20 countries maximum. But it's far from original and the majority won't sell anyway. I mean, who is going to need obscure labels like 'Made in Djibouti' or 'Made in Bermuda'?

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy sale for 7 cents
« on: August 03, 2022, 04:58 »
I opted out May last year, I just now received a distribution sale of 12 cents, of which I got to keep 3 cents... How can they still sell my stuff through distribution 13/14 months after opt-out? I know Alamy sales often have long payout times, but THIS long?
If you haven't done so already, email them and ask for an explanation.

Their 'explanation':

"Many of our distributors have long lead times and the sale has only just been reported to us. Weve instructed the distributor that the image is now no longer available for licensing."

Glad I left 6 years ago, worst agency ever.

Envato is an Australian company, unlike Shutterstock, so a different tax rate applies than the US. Check your country's treaty with Australia.

download is less than the lowest I get on Adobe Stock photo sales.  This is sad.  Majority of my Adobe Stock photo sales are above $1.  I enabled my Shutterstock photo sales this month, but now I worry these parade of dimes on Shutterstock is eating my Adobe Stock photo sales.  Once in a while, Shutterstock has high price sales.  So, I just hope that'll happen soon or I may have to make a decision to turn off my photos on Shutterstock and see if photo sales on Adobe Stock increases.

In my experience, turning off my portfolio on SS (or leaving my work there) didn't affect my sales on Adobe (or any other agency). Different clients, different preferences.

123RF / Re: Ridiculous Refunds
« on: July 13, 2022, 03:43 »
I have 2 refunds as well, one from May 2022 and one from June 2016!

So these "mistakes" keep popping up from time to time? 123RF really needs to get their sh__ together.

167
I still have 28 video sales and the occasional 70 sale. Granted, I've seen some cheaper subs of 2,80 or 8,40, but Adobe is still doing okay for me overall.

168
It's a dumb and meaningless gimmick that's probably not even accurate.

I designed my whole life around stock.

That's the thing. You should branch out before it's too late. Microstock is a sinking ship*, so find other ways to monetize your talents.

* Meaning maybe the industry won't disappear, but the average RPI for contributors is already diminishing rapidly.

Strange how they group a few totally unrelated logo's in one bundle: imagine you want to buy Felix the Cat, you also get Star Wars, Hello Kitty, Superman and Studio Ghibli logos. What's the point?

172
How does this stuff even get accepted?

Envato / Re: Envato Getting Rid of Contributor Bonus
« on: June 09, 2022, 05:51 »
How much content bonus could the average contributor expect? I'm not a contributor there, but does it really make a huge difference?

174
The Kids party halloween image is also showing for me, now.

I think it's not a site-wide problem, or at least not for every visitor. My guess it that a lot of visitors are still able to see the 'missing' files.

175
Only the last two arent showing for me.
