I don't hate Shutterstock. In fact, I think it's the best microstock company out there. But being all happy for Jon because he hits the 1B $ mark is a bit silly while we contributors still make pennies for each download. Jon Oringer is not a hero or a god or a friend, so I couln't really care any less, as long as I make some money off of this.

like others said in this topic, build your own site and wealth, I really don't think we can complain looking at ALL other agencies, would you have a reason to continue doing microstock without SS at this exact moment?

I'm not complaining about SS, I'm just not personally overjoyed by Oringer's success.

That's a flagrant twisting of an innocuous interview if ever I saw one.

No, that's humor, intended or not.

Maybe I am boring but we need our stock agency! Microstockgroup agency!
So, how many of us are active here!?
We can make first round of IPO with first 100$ for contributors who want to participate and be shareholder....
Of course, we have to find country for agency registration, to find employees from this forum and start, easily, slowly...
When MSG agency will be "alive and kicking", contributors will be payed on usual way and on the end of year, with profit after taxes...

When every contributor start to feel this agency as his own, then you will see marketing explosion....

www.msgstockphoto.com can be domain...

One idea!
On that site you don't have to be exclusive contributor, but unique demand can be that you have to be "timeshare exclusive contributor" or you have to upload new content for example 1 year only on "msgstock agency"... After that period you can upload anywhere...

Not many contributors here have the time or resources to start up an agency, let alone run it.

In the istock facebook group Shaun just said the numbers are a mistake and that nothing is changing.
Why did he announce it there first, rather than on the appropriate iStock thread?

Because communication and Istock don't go together.

Also, the fact that the bug was discovered on TUESDAY, but Istock decided not to inform the contributors, shows they truly don't give a *. Yeah, I know, Calgary was flooded and all, but come ON.

1906
There has been no official confirmation as of yet, so it could still be a (very, very bad) copypaste error.
Why did they need to change the chart? What was wrong with the one which was there already?

Don't ask me, I don't work there ;)

So I've read and seen that two days ago, the Bow and Elbow rivers that run through Calgary have flooded, so the city is in a state of emergency and downtown is closed down.

It's way too soon to tell. Analyzing your sales performance after a single week is pretty useless, better look back on it after six months or so.

Thank you all for your answers.

I have found this
"for WEB resolution (72 DPI) download only"
enough funny
72 dpi? yes but what size? 10000 x 28000 pixels? :D

Yeah, I don't expect much from an agency that doesn't even understand what DPI means and that 72 DPI is not 'web resolution' or at all related to resolution.

I'm not going to bother with this Georank. Waste of time and I'm pretty sure it won't change anything in terms of (more) sales.

You actually VISIT the Dreamstime homepage?

Panthermedia.net / Re: Panthermedia Vectors?
« on: May 31, 2013, 09:29 »
Yeah, got the newsletter.

And also a subscription commission cut too:

"Compared to international stock agencies, we have offered a much higher payout per download than our copmetitors while offering the same or smaller end customer prices. We cannot keep up this offer on the long run. While we are thinking about new and competitive subscription packages, we have to adjust our commission schedule to international standards. "

In other words...unsustainable!

But if the subscriptions do not count for vectors, then I might give it a try, even though their sales are very low.

Flippa should not allow this auction to proceed - it violates their terms as well.

Yeah, I was thinking of reporting it. Anything to pester the owner of that crap site.

So, what's the latest news on the process of stopping this scam site? Is Istock simply unable to stop them (which I can't believe) or have they stopped caring?

iStockPhoto.com / 24h vector sale, 50% off
« on: May 22, 2013, 06:18 »
Apparently IS decided to have a 24 hour vector sale, all credit sales 50% off. Not sure if this means we're getting 50% of the royalties, but if so, where can I opt out?!

Any news on the merging? I sent Pixmac an email but I haven't received any kind of response.

Stop worrying about changes in search algorithms, it's non-productive. All these search and Best Match discussions are a waste of time. Microstock isn't about short term, it's all about the long term. Just keep uploading stuff, and look back after a year or so to see what has sold and what hasn't.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Vector Royalty Rates Increasing
« on: May 16, 2013, 04:59 »
What I don't understand is, about 6 months ago iStock made some changes which made it seem they wanted to get rid of indies (by favoring exclusives), and now, indies are being pleased at the expense of the exclusives.

I can hardly believe it. Good to see they're taking a step in the right direction.

I noticed there seems to be a trend of uploading and selling vintage label vector designs, as was pointed out in the latest Creative Brief email from Istock. I kind of like this style, so I was wondering, how are they created? I find it hard to believe there are suddenly lots of label designers out there who know how to recreate that authentic 19th century look. Do they simply scan old labels, do they copy them from other artists or are they created from scratch?

Some examples:

Yeah, my sales are down as well. What's happening?

How they manage to randomly screw up basic site functionality is beyond me. Are they continuously fiddling with their code? What happened to the #1 rule "if it ain't broxen, don't try to fix it"?

I am a Newbie < 100 images at iStock, started in January.

My sales at iStock have been really poor ( 0 for the last 2 months) but my PP sales have been ok....7 to 10 sales a month.

Would I make a higher income is I were to opt-out of the PP and submit direct to the Partner websites?

Is there a way to see which sites have, are using, and selling the images.

One downside is, with few sales happening at iStock, I would never make pay out.

Thoughts.

Glenn

<100 Images won't get you a lot of sales in the beginning. In order to get more sales, you'll need to upload more and high quality images. Keep in mind that iStock is in decline in terms of sales, so you'll notice that as well.

As a non-exclusive, you cannot opt out of the PP. You cannot submit to Thinkstock.com and Photos.com directly, AFAIK.
Upload your images to as many decent sites as possible in an effort to increase your income. Don't expect huge sales at once, just continue building your port and keep working on it.
