Does the Istock/Google deal also affect vector contributors, i.e. are vector contributors at risk too?

Same here.  Dang, I wish this thread would have appeared a little earlier.  I feel like a jerk contacting support about it now.  They must be inundated with emails.

They must feel like jerks for making such a huge mistake, so no worries.

123RF sales are non-existent, last one was over a week ago.

Shocking. Still no official reply. I do hope that right now, Exclusives will stand up to this abuse.

« on: January 09, 2013, 01:08 »
What a bunch of dreadful looking logo's: bland, overused shapes and ugly colors, no creativity, nothing. Symbols that can be interpreted in any way, for any industry possible.

Besides, getting $80 for a logo is an extremely low price.

Interesting (but horrible) situation. I'm very curious how Istock will reply and make things up to you. If not, you'll have a pretty strong case, in my opinion.

I got a follow-up email from them:

"Dear Noedelhap,

In addition to the previous email, let us clarify the copyright issue.
According to the Standard License Agreement
(http://depositphotos.com/standard-license.html), paragraph 5:

User agrees to display a copyright notice on or immediately next to
each file licensed pursuant to a Standard license that is reproduced in
mass media (such as printed magazines and newspapers), such notice must
contain the following text Depositphotos/Name of Contributor.

This is what we do with the pictures in our blog posts.

In any case, thank you again for expressing your point; we'll take it
into account planning our blog content for the next year.

Best regards,
The Depositphotos Team"

Well, I received a reply, which IMO is completely irrelevant to my question.

"Dear Noedelhap,

We do appreciate your concern.

However, according to Depositphotos' SUPPLY AGREEMENT

activities or activities of third parties related to the issuance of
licenses for the Files, promotional purposes, marketing and advertising.
Contributor agrees that he/she will not be paid commissions on the use
of his/her files for such purposes.

Thus, we do have the right to use our contributors' files without
watermarks on our blog, and this information is publicly available.

But I never said they couldn't use them, I simply asked if they could protect these images from being downloaded for free. Also, they don't mention my question regarding copyright notation.

I'm not sure if anyone would pay for a couple of video tutorials from random contributors.

First of all, most tutorials are available for free on various video sites. Secondly, there are tutorial dvd's from professional training companies (Gnomon Workshop, for instance).

New Sites - General / Re: New Microstock Agency - HitImages
« on: December 27, 2012, 10:34 »
The mistake he made (IMO) was that he switched from his ImageToons website to his new website HitImages, which featured smaller download sizes.

I had just gone through the hassle of uploading my port at ImageToons, when suddenly, the website was abandoned in favor of HitImages. We were then asked to re-upload(!) everything to HitImages (no automatic file transfer), and I think very few contributors bothered to do so.

The upload is one of the best out of the 20 or so sites I upload to. I love it and it serves as backup at the same time.

It works well, but DropBox isn't exactly a standard way of uploading. I prefer FTP, so I hope this option will be built in someday.

Although I'm just a vector contributor, I find it shocking that this is what happens with contributor's photo's. So I emailed them that they should watermark or reduce the size of these images, and change the copyright notice to:
" Contributor name | Depositphotos"

« on: December 22, 2012, 09:03 »
I do see the similarities with La Linea :D No plagiarism intended though ;)

this is one picture...what else do you send them?

I have a whole series of them. See the Istock lightbox: http://www.istockphoto.com/search/lightbox/9396470#1973128b

Each agency has their own preferences - Veer in particular has some very odd notions (IMO) of what they view as having commercial appeal (having turned down files that have sold well elsewhere). I can see from your SS portfolio that you have a lot of these characters with no features. It clearly has a style, but it's quite simple. iStock seems not to like vectors that are very simple - although they've certainly accepted others of yours with that style.

As far as a specific critique, I don't like the tree much. I think the key shapes - baubles and lights - get a bit lost in this outline treatment. Perhaps a tree where you could clearly see more/all of the ornaments hanging down would look more Christmas-y?

Ok, thanks. That might be it, that the tree doesn't read very well.

« on: December 21, 2012, 21:25 »
Was accepted at most agencies, but rejected by Istock and Veer for "lacking commercial value" and "wouldn't appeal to customers"

I want to know why. Do you agree with them? If so, why?

PS: any exclusive who will ditch the crown after reading this MUST BEWARE that I am submitting to 18 agencies and that involves a lot of work..

Using the program StockSubmitter, it's actually pretty fast. I upload to about 15 sites. You can upload to all sites simultaneously. Some sites still require manual submittal, but it saves you a lot of work.

Shutterstock.com / New upload system buggy as hell
« on: November 27, 2012, 06:07 »
So, they came up with a fancy looking 'drag 'n drop' upload device, but things are now so buggy I can't even upload my vectors (eps and jpg at the same time). They keep reappearing in the Submit section, then they contain errors because 'the accompanying jpg was not uploaded', then I must delete them, then they reappear again for submitting.  :o

It used to work perfectly. Don't try to fix what ain't broken, SS!

Is GlowImages or a supplier called "Gamma Illustrations" affiliated with a big agency? I noticed this supplier has supplied one of my images (with my name below it) to GlowImages.

http://www.glowimages.com/

Supplier Gamma Illustrations (featured as a 'collection' on GlowImages):

Edit: I sitemailed them, this particular collection is due to a contract with PantherMedia. They also have a contract with 123RF.
