Just beginning with video and 4K. Don't intend do upload videos at GI. Worry about possible $0,003 video sales at GI in a few years.

Its not that simple. If people or paintings are the main object of the image like Alexanders second image https://brutallyhonestmicrostock.files.wordpress.com/2021/04/salamanca.jpg you are not allowed to sell it or publish it without the permission of the person you are photographing. Alexandre also publishes on his blog that the artist has given no permission to make a photograph. In this case i think Alexandre probably will loose lots of money if the angry artist will take this issue to court. Just my opinion.

Bypass the internet, print postcards and sell it locally. There is no big marge at internet sales, its all about high volume sales. For high volume sales generic images that everyone can use are doing better.

In a few years ... ist there a chance to get $0,00001 Sales? I guess there is no accounting program dealing with this small numbers. Its not the case that i have to deal with this small numbers now. But in a few years with 600 Sales for $0,00001 each. I will need an update for the accounting program.

The more you have listed free on Unsplash the higher you will be ranked on Unsplash Hire for private contract work. Well played.
Uber for photographers ?

Without istock - Getty Images probably shut down business years ago. Istock is paying the bill for Getty Images, even for the Unsplash deal.

This 0,00x Sales has been so exiting that i canceled istock last year. Never regretted it.

I don't think Getty Images has enough money to buy Shutterstock. Istock was a bargain years ago. Shutterstock won't be that cheap and i don't think there'll be much return of investment buying a stock photo agency nowadays.

1) Yes / No - technically there has been an improvement, relating to creativity its still the same like 10 years ago. 2) Yes / No - because ten years ago it was much harder to produce large amount, upload it and get it accepted. Nowadays its not so difficult to produce 400 images a month, edit it and get 90% accepted at istock, shutterstock and AdobeStock.. 3) It depends were you are living. If you are leaving in Russia and produce 5000+ images a year, i think its fine.

Its not only about portfolio size. I also depends on average monthly uploads. In early days of microstock it was possible to compete at a level of 1:1000. For every 1000 Uploads at shutterstock, contributors were able to upload 1 Image. Nowadays competition is getting harder and harder. A portfolio with 14000 images was great years ago. Nowadays there are about 2800 Competitors with more than 14.000 files at shutterstock. Even if your images are better than 90% of the rest at shutterstock, nobody finds your images in this mass volume game.

There is an oversupply of images, a Covid crisis and probably also an economic crisis on the way. No good time for microstock business. My sales are OK, but don't expect any growth. Its more a declining of sales month to month.

Just imagine that a large group of image creators teamed up like the individual investors in shares of the GameStop company against the short sellers and decided to fight the stock agencies and CEO's who sell them short.
Comparing GameStop and Shutterstock is like...... An investor can buy an image for about $4. But the investors insist to drive the image price crazy upwards. The latest buyers got an $4 image for about $400. Some of the latest buyers will loose very much. Its a matter of days that the ridiculous high price will drop into nirvana. I don't believe that this will happen with shutterstock images.

Out of curiosity. Is the increase of annual sales revenue due to the Corona niche filled with new images or is it about portfolio growth in general.

Closed my istock account at March. Its a long way to Australia, seems there are still some of my photos available. Three sales in Australia, each for $0,08 at November.

There is an oversupply of Content at all agencies. It won't help only uploading at middle-tier agencies. There is also an oversupply. Half of the world ist uploading to microstock. Right now i am only uploading to AdobeStock. It works for me and i get some money to buy some new gear. Uploading to all the middle-tier agencies is not making much sense for me. Much more work for some pennies i don't need.

I have deleted my portfolio at all microstock agencies except AdobeStock. There is no reason to work hard for microstock - you just don't get paid for hard work there. I will do microstock just for fun in the future. So i am more at creative positioned sites than at business positioned sites like MSG.

Its not much a problem for me. When is shoot food, i don't take only one pictures. I shoot series of about 10 images. If there are only two images of a series that sell its OK. There is some kind of oversupply. So it is necessary to upload as many images as possible, because they are getting found only at new images search. So you need to upload many new images every week. They are lost after a month, ore two. Because of the flood of new images. So you must be part of the flood. The game must go on, shoot - upload - repeat.

It is years ago that i canceled exclusivity at istock. Since i keyword in LRC it was easy to upload my portfolio at other micros. I must admit that i shoot mostly food. So there is no MR or PR needed. About the earnings. There was not much difference between istock exclusivity and delivering the big five. Its just more work. Nowadays there should be an advantage at istock exclusivity. There ist no upload limit at the micros. At istock signature collection there is some selection that prevent flooding the collection.

I use LR classic. Title and description in Meta data, keywords from keyword list. At series with mostly similar keywords i synchronize these keywords to the other images. Last step save meta data in file - done. Agencies reading out metadata from file. With istock there is some work in DeepMeta. Adobe stock is also some work with essential keywords placing in front. There should Adobe Bridge do better. But i have no workflow with Adobe Bridge. I import, develop, and keyword my images in LRC an do some changes in PS.

I use Adobe Lightroom with self built keyword catalog. Works fine and fast.
