When was the last time anyone anywhere uploaded something to Istock? Surely at least a year or two now given their greedy unethical commission % and sales prices
I upload 200 - 500 photos every month. I can't complain.

How long are the 3000 images online. If all uploaded 2008, it won't sell any more.
If all 3000 images uploaded in 2018, it will need some time to start selling.
But if you are continuous uploading at least 1000 images a year you should earn much more than $40 am month.

181
It's possible to earn $100 selling images on shutterstock per month. I earn approximately $30. :(
How many images have you online at shutterstock?

please see my istock monthly sale stats, my revenue constantly decreasing in a terrible way, I dont understand why is so much down while I still constantly upload new images, can anyone explain this if understand? is it real or just a joke?

Well you are uploading more, but are you uploading enough.
Trying to explain my guess. If your uploads to all uploads may had a ratio from 1:10.000 in the past.
You may upload more now, but your ration may decrease to 1:20.000 - because uploads to stock are rising more and more.
There is an interesting article at stock performer - are you uploading enough ---
https://www.stockperformer.com/blog/are-you-uploading-enough-files-to-make-money-from-microstock/
As you can see, there are lots of uploads at Shutterstock not uploaded to istock till the end of 2016.
If sometimes istock is flooded with this images available its getting worse and worse.
Shutterstock seems not selling as well as in the past. Some people may upload more to istock to compensate decreasing income from shutterstock.

I think, in the end, it comes down to how good the search algorithm is, if the spam and low quality gets pushed deep down, it doesn't even matter if it's being uploaded or not. And it's probably good enough for now.
On the other hands, of course there are very good photographers with quality material that join up everyday, that's the real supply we should be afraid of.
It will take years for them to make a profit.
Even in countries there living is cheap.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Exclusive vs Not
« on: June 15, 2018, 07:42 »
I have been exclusive to istock till 2013. I am shooting mostly food. Downloads were decreasing every month since 2011.
My content just doesn't fit to the exclusive collection. It was just to expensive. Customers getting much more of the same or better work for less money at istock.
If you are doing a search at istock exclusive vs non ex and filtering the last 30 days of upload date.
At Food there are 1/11 of the new images exclusive content.
A very hard competition for food photographers being exclusive at istock.
You need a joker to compete, like a medium format camera with 50+ MP, a good food stylist, etc.
At Lifestyle images there are about 1/3 of the new images exclusives.
If you are good at shooting lifestyle you probably can win the exclusive game.

ok, but how can you get to Signature + collection?
Can only talk about photography.
First - you must be an exclusive contributor.
second - shoot highly demanded images - like lifestyle.
third - luck.

... if you decide to become
exclusive you delete all yours previous images/footage and reupload them then as exclusive....
You cannot delete images at istock.
Exclusivity at istock only make sense when you get lot of images in Signature + Collection.
If you don't have lots of premium stuff that ist demanded in Signature + Collection forget exclusivity at istock.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: shutter life expectancy

Don't care about shutter life - just shoot pictures.
There ist only one important thing in stock photography - shoot - upload - repeat.

No sales since one week!!!!
Lots of sales on Adobe Stock and istock.

The higher resolution doesn't matter.
It depends what you are shooting. For people SLR APS ist better. Its just faster.
For still life the bigger medium format sensor give you a better control of sharp / unsharp adjustment.
But i don't think they sell better. The workflow can be more comfortable for you if you like it. But i would prefer a tilt shift lens.

Actually, I think that "2015 horizontal photography" might be one of the most common search terms ever.
Hmmm - I can find 3.210.759 images on istock searching - 2015 horizontal nobody.
Not easy to get with these keywords at the first page.
Is there a chance to reload the original keywords ? Just curious. Mine keywords are not distorted yet - but who knows what happens tomorrow at istock.

« on: March 24, 2018, 10:36 »
It was possible at Panthermedia. I have no images now at Panthermedia. But years ago i lost some images because of a broken hard disk. I was able to download this images from Panthermedia. Not like an regular download. It didn't count like a regular paid download.
Dont know if this ist possible today. But that time Panthermedia was some sort of Cloud storage. Years before Close storage was invented.

Are you uploading enough?
An interesting article at stock performer blog
https://www.stockperformer.com/blog/are-you-uploading-enough-files-to-make-money-from-microstock/
The market is flooded with uploads. I guess there will only survive Team who can produce large amount every month. Individual photographers just uploading a few hundred files a year will get buried in the flood or uploads.

196
I use DeepMeta and it works very well. But i just upload photos, no illustrations or videos.
I keyword in LR. When i am finished in LR just import the files to DeppMeta and upload it.
Very fast and easy.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock not accepting new contributors ???
« on: February 18, 2018, 05:18 »
Guess they will make one site for new contributors - istock and Getty.
We got the Getty upload procedure EPS, the "wonderful" Getty statistic, the "wonderful" Getty forum,
nest thing maybe will be a "wonderful" new contributor site  ::)

I was exclusive at istock from 2009 till 2015. Before i applied for exclusivity the RPI at istock, Fotolia, Shutterstock and Dreamstime together was about $9 per year. With exclusivity on istock i had never an RPI more than $7. But istock was doing quite well till 2011. My problem with istock exclusivity began when istock was rising and rising, and rising ... the prices after bought by Getty.
My images became to expensive. So my sales dropped from year to year even i was uploading more and more.
At the end in year 2015 my RPI at istock was about $2 per year. This was about the RPI i had at Shutterstock or Fotolia non ex 2008.
When you look at the blog at Stockperformer - are you uploading enough. then you see that for every upload at istock 2008 - there are 18 uploads in 2016. At Shutterstock and Fotolia even more. Most of the new uploads are quite cheap productions like Food, landscape etc. Expensive Productions like lifestyle are not so affected.
So there are 2 Options - shoot little more expensive lifestyle productions or produce 18 X to 80X more ( cheap production) images than 2008.

200
It all depends what you are shooting. If you are shooting Landscape, Food, Travel, etc. your earnings will get less and less. To many photographers eating your profit as they are shooting the same.
You have to learn to shoot lifestyle themes with group of peoples - about 3 to 6 peoples at good locations.
This is the only chance to survive the mass production game at microstock.
Getty images is the best place to sell good lifestyle photography. istock exclusive is to expensive for medium stuff.
So it depends on your work - good lifestyle photography - stay exclusive at istock. Medium stuff (Food, Landscape, pests, etc) go non ex.
