same here.

used to get lots of unjustified rejections, saying all my photos where too similar (they absolutely are not)

now they accept everything

77
I am also getting mass rejections. so for many months I stopped submitted.

they must be in financial trouble, no other reason to do this,

it is a dumb idea because no one reads the description when making a decision to purchase an image.

it might not be a big deal for people with small portfolios, but when you have 60,000 photos it is a big deal when you have to go back and retitle 10,000 photos just to comply with a requirement that has no effect on sales.

I have had to do this for bigstock and all it does it lead to stupid titles. "smiling young girl" becomes "smiling young girl with long hair" which has no impact on someone's desire to buy the image. it is just a waste of time.

these companies should be making it easier for people to contribute, not harder.

to say you like this idea is just stupid. why shouldn't someone have the right to make a title with 4 words? seriously you think it is a great idea to force everyone else to increase their title length, when they can do it voluntarily anyway? you are opposed to 4 word titles for other contributors?

sometimes I log in and my portfolio is gone, but it was there today when I checked

this case looks like it leans more on the fair use side as opposed to infringing.

copyrights are regulated by the Berne convention

General - Stock Video / Re: U.S Copyright registration
« on: March 30, 2019, 04:03 »
once they changed the laws to copyright upon creation, it was not as necessary to file copyrights

many people do not understand copyrights. pond5 said they needed a screenshot of my audio software to prove I owned my audio work. I told them I would send them my copyright registration for my music. they responded telling me that copyright registrations were not proof that I owned my music.

the copyright filing fee, last I checked, is $35 or so PER WORK. you'd have to file it per video for it to be valid, and you'd have to send each video on a separate dvd.

I told companies stock agencies that they should work with the copyright office to make everything easier for us, but they have not done so. istock did a meeting with the copyright office, that they announced after I asked them, but I don't know what came out of it.

copyrights are only proof that you register with the government. after that, if you ever have a legal problem, it is between you and the defendant and the courts (using your copyright registrations as evidence). there is no way to automatically prevent infringement.

your copyright is only good in your country, unless you pay a fee per country, and that only is eligible for some countries. forgot which convention regulated it, maybe the Hague convention?

its not worth it unless your work has a high existing value.

Pond5 / Re: Letter to pond5 and quick Poll for contributors
« on: March 21, 2019, 14:46 »
pond5 is tricking us.

let's say you have $10,000,000 in payouts to everyone non-exclusive. and that goes down to 40% so it goes down to $8,000,000. that is $2,000,000 less.

but then you have all the people who are exclusive, and the payout is $100,000. and they are getting their full share. basically what pond5 is doing is saving huge amounts of cash from non-exclusive people but that money is not going to pay exclusive people, it is going into their profit margin. the only way it might equalize is if 50% of sellers are exclusive and 50% are not, which is very very unlikely. I doubt if even 1% go exclusive.

scam

0 people are going to become exclusive with pond5. pond5 will pay everyone 10% less. this is what will happen.

according to that stats site with the bird logo (I forgot the name), I am above the 93 percentile in earnings of all stock contributors. So I make more than 93% of photographers and videographers.

I have 20,000 videos and about 50,000 photos (half online, rest are pending upload).

I make about $35,000 a year from stock.

good luck

90
I spent a lot of time retouching some of my best photos and the retouched images are popular in some cases.

I did some color changes as you suggest, but I did not do it on duplicates. If I have 20 photos of a person wearing a shirt, I changed it so that 5 have 1 shirt color, 5 have another, etc.

Pond5 / uploads not showing up
« on: January 29, 2019, 12:02 »
lately 15% to 50% of my uploads are not showing up.

when I upload I keep a record of the file size on the remote ftp server and I record whether it is successful or fails. my records show the files are being received in full by pond5's ftp servers. but they never appear on the site

probably a problem with disk space on a temp drive

the fonts are definitely not copy protected in the US. neither are short phrases.

if you live in the US, select US Tax Resident. Otherwise you may be subject to a withholding tax (I think it is 28% but not sure). in the major non-western nations, you will have to pay the tax. if you live in a western nation like the UK you can avoid the tax because the US has tax treaties with those countries.

96
serge,

many western nations have tax treaties that allow one country, such as the US, to tax you even if you live in another country.

if your nation doesn't have such a tax treaty with the US, then you have to pay the tax. if your country does have a tax treaty, you have to present a certificate of residency to videoblocks to avoid the tax.

if you look at the list of nations that have such a tax treaty, it is going to cover just about every modern country, including most of europe, australia, etc.

You need to have a "certificate of residency" to prove which country you are paying taxes in, and present it to videoblocks, if you want to avoid having taxes withheld. for example if you look at IRS form 8802, you can see on the last page a list of countries which have a tax treaty with the US for withholding taxes.

I think you are asking if you believe that a stock agency is limiting your sales based on how many sales you already have, in order perhaps to spread the wealth.

it is important for new users to have sales so they remain committed to contributing in the long run.

however I truly believe that the downturn in sales over time is due to standard supply and demand (vast increase in supply and lesser so increase in demand).
