iStockPhoto.com / Re: DeepMeta v3 Coming soon...
« on: February 11, 2017, 09:22 »
My DM3 is empty - I can not see any of my active files nor my balance. I seem to be logged in correctly and if I upload and submit a photo it works fine, is everyone having the same issue?

And one more question about the keywords - there are many geographical names missing in the dictionary, it concerns most of my photos so I'm unable to use the most important tags, what can I do with it?

Maybe Franky could comment, many thanks

General - Top Sites / Re: Fotolia no sales
« on: February 03, 2017, 16:45 »
My fotolia sales really suck lately. I't's just dead. I mean, I have daily sales, but not as much as I used to, despite new upload. On the contrary, sales at SS are really good with January beeing my best month with number of sales.

Do you bother to order keywords? I did before but since a while I don't order it anymore. The content I've been adding recently seems to have no effect on my sales - same number of downloads and $ give or take as a few months ago. Wondering if it's worth to go back and order the keywords (and die of boredom) ::)

Do you think its better if you have less keywords then? For example 10, less to worry about, most relevant keywords only. The order wont matter a lot.

Checked my Image stats - I have many images where more than 10 keywords were used by buyers in searches, with maximum of 18 keywords for one of my bestsellers. Some of them I thought would have never been used. You never know!
So limiting your keywords to 10 or so could result in "less $$ to worry about" ;D

This January was ok, but these last 2 days are dead like a bad weekend, and this is unusual - last day of each month has always been a good day for me, even if it was a so-so month.
Or could it be due to Chinese New Year?

I've noticed some hiccups recently in review process too - half of the batch reviewed within an hour, the other half pending for days. With one of the last submissions I deleted the pending files and resubmitted - they were then reviewed real quick.

So, thanks to the DeepMeta I figured out I had a few credit sales in January ;D But we can't really see which images have sold right?
https://secure.istockphoto.com/my_uploads?page=1&order=LastDownload

I only see views too, but if you say the files are sorted by recent sales then it could make sense, thank you.

As for the DeepMeta - nope it doesn't show my downloaded files properly, if I sort by "downloaded" it only shows stats on 3 files downloaded in 2015, the rest is blank.

A lot is left to the imagination with IStock these days ;D

My SS earnings dropped bad in the second half of November especially this last week - I'm punished for not uploading much in the last few months, new stuff is selling well now and I have very little to offer :) My bad

Ethics is the perfect word in here! I care about it too and that is why I will never be rich ;D

I would hate my customers to ever see me spamming my port this way..

Anyone tweet? I only see 3 or 4 tweets.

I just revived my twitter account which I never ever used.
But how do I tweet? :) Should I go to Oringer page and press "tweet to Jon Oringer"? Or should I just tweet and include @jonoringer into my message?
Besides I'm not seeing any spam related tweets on his page, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? ???

No PP fees in Russia too, but unfortunately all earnings are automatically converted into Russian roubles at PP's internal rate which is significantly lower than the official one, so I get about 5% less after all :(

If you set USD as the main currency, you can probably keep the money in USD and convert to RUB at any time when it's a reasonable rate. Paypal also only changes the rate daily, so you can use that to your advantage - for example, when I see USD/PLN going down 1% on the day, I would convert and only pay ~2% instead of the usual ~3% conversion fee.

Nope, it's a law here - any incoming payments to PP are automatically converted into RUB straight away. We can request not to convert the $ only if we use the money to pay for something online directly from our PP account. But that's not my case, I need to transfer my income to my bank ;)

Are you sure? Here's just one: https://www.paypal.com/ru/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-xborder-fees-outside&countries=

Yes I'm positive, the one in the link concerns the outgoing payments only, i guess (if I'm the one who pays).

Nobody ever gets the 'official rate', unless you own a bank... or a country. So it's not that much lower than you'd get in other places, and maybe a bit higher than some. But look on the bright side... it's a better rate than you'd get if you were changing it at the airport!

Yes I know, still if I get my royalties in $ I could exchange it myself in any bank at the rate which is 5% higher than PP's one :) I know Skrill has a better exchange rate, but then they charge the commission, so it comes out more or less the same

Adobe Stock / Re: How are your Fotolia sales in October?
« on: October 25, 2016, 13:28 »
Fotolia has been great for me this year; in fact ahead of SS a bit every month. But October looks to be a disaster for me, with sales half of what I've been getting since the beginning of the year.
I did sync with Adobe; but I don't necessarily think there's a connection at this point.

With a few more days to go my October could be about 30% of the previous month

Lana, could it because most of your images are focused on landscape and travel but in the forth quarter (October-December) mostly Holiday related images sell? (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Shopping, Santa, New Year, Gifts, etc). How are your October sales on SS?

Maybe it could, didn't occur to me :)
my SS sales are good in October, already surpassed September numbers (which were on a low side). But on SS most of my customers come from Central America, so maybe they are interested in my topics all year round, while Fotolia buyers are split between Europe and US (that's my guess), so yeah could be a seasonal thing for me :-\

What's up with their royalty free editorial? Wasn't it supposed to come in September?
I dont think a date was given but does seem to be taking a long time....

They first mentioned that the new tools were "soon" to be released back in March. They then said that they are "in the final stages of testing" these tools" back in September. It seems the have the most stretched definition of "soon" I've ever come across :( I know it's important to iron out things before releasing them, but first, companies with such potential can mobilize and release new products/tools within relatively short period of time, and secondly, no one can make a perfect bug-less IT product, you have to go through the beta mode and iron it out with the help of users; why wait so long?

And why announcing the news if things are not ready at all? Liars

Question about the possibility to edit keywords on Adobe site - I added new keywords to one of the images on Adobe, but when I check this file on Fotolia the keywords are not updated.
Does this tool only apply to the search engine of Adobe then?
