            ....
            3. You killing Symbiostock by claiming Symbiostock is a trademark in your property.

That is is a claim that you have to prove. And if Leo gave him the rights to the name, it is his right to do so.

            ....

get your basic facts right ----

it's Robin who must prove his claim, since he makes it such a prominent part of his offerings --

Leo sold Robin the rights to the new version of symbiostock, but no rights to anything related to the original symbiostock

Leo COULD NOT have given robin the trademark robin claims, since Leo NEVER TRADEMARKED the word symbiostock.   Leo SPECIFICALLY made symbiostock a brand that ANYONE could use, and said so EXPLICITLY in this and other forums, many times.  Leo ENCOURAGED anyone interested to register domain names that included symbiostock, such as symbiostock.info and symbiostock-network.com -- that made symbiostock difficult if not impossible to ever trademark due to common law and prior usage

Again you show nothing but ignorance, first you made the claim the robin did not register it, now you are saying leo did not. having a website with the name symbiostock has nothing to do with the product. we do not use common law in us federal laws. so agin you are wrong.

 what I said was correct:
Robin has not registered a trademark for symbiostock
Leo did not register a trademark EITHER

the US most definitely considers common law usage as part of trademark law - a simple google search turns up many sites top explain it for you
eg
http://www.bitlaw.com/trademark/common.html

Symbiostock / Re: Demo the new Symbiostock
« on: April 29, 2015, 07:41 »
Back when communication wasn't a problem between Leo and Robin, Robin posted to us:

Quote
You'll get to know more about me as we communicate more. on: March 23, 2015, 01:43

That was 30+ days ago and we still know diddly about the Verified anonymous 'Blue Bird' Robin. One could assume Robin is just another con man who conned Leo out of SymbioStock.com and the contributors are next in line to be screwed.

The Who - Who are you?

as for the communicate-more bit up there, Robin's links are still coming through as "nofollow" on microstockgroup.com which means that Robin still hasn't reached even a meager "10" in here! So, yeah, do a bit "more communication", we'd all love to hear it!

Symbiostock / Re: Legacy Symbiostock updates
« on: April 27, 2015, 12:45 »
Mine has the math question on the log-in page too.  I'm wondering if that is something new with recent WP upgrades rather than a Symbiostock "feature."

I haven't updated my Symbio sites for a few versions now.

I have another WP installation (no Symbiostock) for a blog and I now see the math question on that site's admin login too, so I think it has to be WordPress

It appears then that these guys (at WP) increasingly suck (too)! This is exactly why I froze all my blogs at WP Ver3.6.1 which AFAIK is the latest one that does not force any "auto updates" that are beyond my control. There are better ways of protecting against spamming scripts than stupid Captchas -- I am  surprised I have to tell those "experts" over at WP.

Everything in the name of "safety". It already feels like the U. S. Patriot Act...

No one messes with my servers but myself :)

I see now why you don't want download it. You think it is a virus. Well I just uploaded my pictures to 2shared yesterday, and after your complaint I redownloaded it from the site. My AVG Internet Security didn't find anything. And I am sure as hell, didn't upload any virus into it, I can barely program in C.

But I understand, that you don't trust a newcomer, so I try to upload the pictures. However free picture uploading sites all say that they retain the copyright if I use them. So that's a nono. I guess I have to make multiple posts here because of the 4 attachment limit.

Is that okay?

it's got nothing to do with "not trusting a newcomer", but you might want to make your work *accessible* not only for this but for all other situations as well in order to achieve *any* rate of success out there. This goes for photo galleries as well as writing and/or pitching your work (any work) to editors (photo editors or otherwise). If people who are even willing to help you out here and take a look at your pic are greeted with 404s or virus warnings or anything like that, then this is not the right way to do it.

You need to get a grip of these things anyway or I would advise very strongly against going down that road.

Oh my god SS is so great! I LOVE watching my total earnings increase pennies at a time. It's so gratifying and like I totally see how good subs are for contributors. The more subs I get the more I want to submit my best work!!! Whooooo hooooooo!!!!! Thanks Mr. Oringer!!!!

IMO, you're spot on (despite the criticism you -- unsurprisingly -- received here; see Mark Twain above, as quoted by my "almost name-compatriot" up there, he's spot on, too).

To be brief, I am myself at a loss for words about SS' policies -- in total stuttershock here ;)

I don't get it...what are the chances that 3 different buyers will look for a "Turkish delight" file, choose mine...the same pose and buy it in 5 minutes at 3 different agencies?

Any idea?

Symbiostock - Hosting / Re: How much does it cost?
« on: April 05, 2015, 14:57 »

Hi!

A short question, if you have time.

How much does it host to purchase a domain name and the hosting for let's say an year?

Thank you very much.  ;)

There is a cheap solution available from http://safehavenhosting.net/index.php/content-hosting/sweden/dedicated-servers. WordPress (Symbiostock) photographer websites with e-commerce, everything included, hosted on your own dedicated server are available for roughly $150/yr or shared hosting for just $29/yr (plus your domain cost, can be as little as $2.99/yr). These are very low-energy offers, and power savings are passed on to hosting customers.

I am getting tired of the extremely poor conversion rate that paypal offers between american and other currencies (2.5% goes to Paypal)

Does anyone have any good solutions?

I have been thinking of opening a Bank account or an account with E*Trade in the states so that I can withdraw the money there and invest it or something else useful.

I can open an American currency account here at my Norwegian bank but Paypal will not transfer american funds to the account.  If i withdraw funds from a Norwegian paypal account, they have to go either to an American bank (US funds) or a Norwegian bank (Norwegian funds).

I just tried checking out opening an E*trade account in the states which is mostly a stock broker but also has a debit card associated with the account which could be usefull - but I found out they are not longer acceptnig applications from europe.  ::)

Perhaps one of the other online brokers, or perhaps opening an american bank in person some time when I visit there (October)

Any other suggestions?

sounds like it's about time now to also embrace Bitcoin and similar Crypto coins for microstock in order to lower those "fees" (or at least destroy that apparent "reason" for fees there). Also, that would add more speed, better safety, and the ability to send micro payments and not wait for thresholds to be passed etc.

There is actually one up and coming concept out there: they are called coinstock.info and want to do just that -- on top of offering 81% payouts to artists! Still in beta AFAIK though.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Paypal Fees
« on: April 04, 2015, 16:09 »
One company out of all the companies (23 to be exact) continues to charge me a fee to get paid.  I sent them an email and they told me that Paypal is charging the fee. I have looked at my account and I've got the same exact setup as I do with the other companies.   Any ideas? or is this company just lying to me? They only account for 1% of my sales so I might dump them if they don't stop charging me fees to get my already low commission!

Shutterstock's or Istock's reviewers are better. Which of the two teams gives a more professional assessment of your photos? In my opinion Shutterstock reviewers overdo with "out of focus" about images in focus. Please, share your opinions.

spot on, they do. Elsewhere, they're pretty lame and accept things that one sometimes even has one's own doubts about. Still, haven't really figured these guys out yet.

62
They all sign non disclosure agreements. I am not sure if you'll get a response.

gee, they got it all figured out at SS, huh?

ALL agency do the same!

Some even offer English lessons to their curators! Go figure!  :o

indeed, doesn't look good :(

Man, the last two weeks have been rough at SS for me. Everything I have tried to get in my portfolio has been kicked back at me and for stuff I feel like has not changed. Recently I am hearing that my images are out of focus and I know they are not. I check them close at 100% but still they are kicking my butt on this.

Anyone else seeing this? SS is the only place I have sold much lately so it is discouraging, to say the least.

nope, had that problem only on Pond5 so far ;)

Software - General / Re: For uploading multiple agencies

i tried stockuploader but i couldn't find how to upload model releases?

same problem here -- does there happen to be anyone to tell me (us) what's wrong? Any pointers appreciated.

66
That's weird. What happened on 20 March? Did they cut the deal?

That or they moved Facebook to the Premier Select trial, only two things come to mind.  A fair bit of tinkering is going on since that announcement, but who would rock the boat with that carrot dangling?  Perhaps they moved Facebook to provide a bigger carrot, expect more exciting news soon.

indeed, let us hope they turn out exciting in a good way...

Software - General / Re: FTP Distribution tool you will love
« on: April 04, 2015, 15:10 »
Hey Guys,
i am reading in this forum for quite a while now and I always stumble upon the problem  that you want to send your files to multiple agencies at once and you are looking for solution.

I would like to present you a tool, me and a couple friends developed for photojournalists and stock photographers.

www.distribuddy.com

Distribuddy allows you to automatically send your images to as many agencies as you like. Straigt forward and lighting fast.

We even have a lightroom plugin where you can submit your images directly via lightroom without even touching any ftp client.

I would love to hear your suggestions and ideas to make our tool more convenient for you as stock photographers.

We offer 30 days of free trial where you can try our tool out :)
If you guys like it, we will make a special deal for the microstockgroup members.

Best,
Martin

very good move -- love it.

Looks nice and simple! Exactly what I need as I've already made keywords solution for myself... Only I need it for Linux

That sounds like me :) -- at least a bit. I have become rather no-frills lately with my re-discovery of the command line. It is outright amazing what you can do once you get yourself a few extra package down your favorite repository :)

For video, it's everything ffmpeg & friends for me. For photo, imagemagick and everything that can be added to this core platform. Keeps it simple (and fast).

I used to waste my time with Win and Mac stuff where it turns out the lion's share went into "updating" and repairing OS issues and bugs/omissions in application programs.  Not anymore!

Only I need something for Linux platform

big mistake.
as a professional you better stick with the industry standards (win/mac).

do you expect developers to waste time and money porting their apps to a platform that is barely used by 1% of photographers ?

however, things could change soon with the next Visual Studio as it seems it will provide native multiplatform support as long as your OS can run the .NET framework, we will see ... and this can be done already with Mono Develop by the way (recently bought by microsoft and it will be integrated in the next VS).

Linux supports all standards and protocols etc, so there's no need to wait for anyone "wasting their time" there. You don't seem to be very familiar with open source tools. Or what do you believe ftp is, what is JPEG, how about most video codecs out there etc...?
