How about you first.

Sure. Since I am new to the video stock, right now I have around 200 *usable* clips and they take around 22GB of space.
What do you mean by "usable"?

Usable = Videos with quality and content good enough to upload which is around 1/3 of all the videos I shoot.

I'm about 3/4 of a mile.

Impressive! Where do you store that?

General - Stock Video / How big is your footage collection?

Would love to know how big is the collection of other stock video makers.

Share numbers in GB/TB and perhaps total number of video clips.

Thank you all for your constructive insights!

I think it is far from a saturated market. The demand for video content is growing every day at a very fast rate.
It doesn't surprise me that the demand for video content is growing every day at a very fast rate. However, as someone who started as a video contributor long ago, it is equally clear that the supply of video content is also growing every day at a very fast rate. I noticed a clear market saturation in certain areas well over a year ago, based on my drop in sales (relative to my portfolio size).

I think the video market is somewhere around 2012, relative to where the photo market was then. I bet the demand for photo content continues to grow every day at a very fast rate as well, however most individual contributors cannot keep their portfolio growing at a fast enough rate to keep up with the much larger growth rate in supply. The video market isn't there yet, but will be in another year or two (just my own WAG).

What are these "certain areas" you think the footage type is saturated ?

Been full-time stock video producer for over 5 years now. Love my job and have to work harder and harder to keep up but I don't mind. Still the best job in the world to me. If I was just starting out today it would be a lot harder!

Why will be harder to start now?

Lets keep conversation going!

My major issue is big 4k clips either cannot be loaded or disappear after uploading.

Mind to elaborate on the Bigstock issue? What are they doing exactly?

For the higher commissions, I guess there is a lot of money that need to go to marketing thats why commissions are not that crazy.

Which platform are you talking about?

@eburlingham - do you have any data to back these numbers?

Hows your success in stock video industry so far?

Thank you for your insights!

@Sean thats subjective topic I guess :)

@jjneff maybe there is no big demand for it? On the other hand I thought iStock has money to throw on marketing.

So I have a camera that with good setup I could easily just press the button, record a 10-12sec clip and the video is ready for upload. I always record with native white balance and flat colours to give more control to the person who will be post processing it. The disadvantage is that the colours are faded and whole video might looks unattractive in the eyes of potential buyer.

So here is my dilemma: should I post-edit every each of them, adding vibrant colours and life to the clip to increase my chances of selling it, or keep it flat and ready for post-process work with hope that professional will stumble upon it and understand that faded colours are here purposely to give him more room for the control/editing? Or maybe upload both versions??

Would love to hear how do you guys handle it :)

I wonder what do you guys found annoying about stock footage sites you are on (with names) and what could be done better?
The example could be: long reviewing times, poor interface to manage uploads, lack of customer service etc.

I would like to hear both contributors and those who buy (if we have any on forum)  :)

Peace!

Just looking at few big selling stock video sites and their contributors.

Things I observed:

- 80% of all videos never been purchased/downloaded
- there are only small % of contributors who make a living from it
- lots of videos published are "blind shoots" of what might sell, a bit of mess, often with quantity and not quality in mind

This all make me feel that its hard for a new contributor to come and make a living from it even in a long term.

I would love to hear your thoughts - both from new and experienced contributors  :)
