Shutterstock.com / Re: Goodbye Shutterstock
« on: October 19, 2016, 03:45 »
Shutterstock is not working now here so I can't see the hare images there only on FT. But my guess is that on the better selling image the ears are more open with space in between and the profile is better and on the other the ears are closed and because of that the profile is not as good? Or the ears just look much better on them? If I would shoot an image of a hare I would want it to look as if I could trace it and make a good clip art image from it and even then it should be very recognizable as a hare so it would even look great as a logo. Position is everything so a small difference can make a huge impact. BUT again. I did not see the images yet so just a wild guess... i just don't believe in right time right place with stock. Good images sell. Thats it nothing else.

This whole post is so severely illogical it made me cringe. SS profit % directly connected to their customer base increase / decrease, and customer's spending, not how rapidly they increase their portfolio. The best sellers bringing in 20-50-100 times more money than the average pic, are almost always older files that have been in the system for years now, and they often just keep getting more sales, as they get better relevancy rankings from the sales... so SS actually has little need for new content. The reason they like to increase their stock so much is that the "huge" number is marketing ploy imho. They aim to boast having the largest stock on the planet I guess - and they are right, it is an attractive marketing statement. Imagine hearing that there is a store that has the most good, ever, anywhere.

Not true in my experience. This year alone I have about ~10 new images on page one on single word search results. Most within weeks and many more on page 1 for double search words. Some are climbing slower than they used to be but it's not impossible to get new content on page one. The reason these old files are still on page one is because there is no better alternatives. Once there are they will move down. And the images I get on page one are in saturated markets like food, business, car etc. I think if people here would PLAN a shoot and put more time in one single image instead of shooting just random things and whatever comes along you would see more sales. And NO I DON'T have an expensive studio and models and just do this in free time and weekends. One single studio flash, good location and a model or subject plus good Photoshop knowledge is all you need to make pro looking images.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS September sales down 50%
« on: September 22, 2016, 07:01 »
I wonder how many contributors in the last tier of $0.38 are experiencing good sales compared with 2 or 3 years ago...
New contributors are signing in everyday and images sales are always guaranteed for SS.
You in the first tier, enjoy while it lasts.

I am in $0.38 tier and I see good sales. So thats one. ;)

SS is selling very well for me. I have had record number of sales there this month. Usually I don't get over ~75 sales on a saturday or sunday but I had 110 last sunday. I can't wait for Oktober witch is usually the best month of the year. FT is about 1/3rd of SS. I think I will get a very normal good month at SS. I do see more fluctuation than in the past. Weekdays were more predictable a few years back.

Shutterstock.com / Re: New content sale stopped?
« on: September 16, 2016, 04:00 »
New files take a bit longer than a few years ago but I still have files climbing to page one within 3 to 4 weeks. Both vector and images. SS is far from going down for me. Yes I see some swings (seasonal and abnormal) but overall you have to realize it's like a street store. New products come on the shells and old ones start selling less. And like in a real store sales are not the same every month.

I know I am not the only one. I am on SS since 2011. I also do wedding photography and when you make bad wedding photo's the customer tells 20 people. When your work is good they only tell 5. I think it's the same on the forum here. When you have bad sales everybody tells. When you have good sales you just relax and keep going. I might step on some toes now by being to positive? But this is my experience.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock worth uploading?
« on: September 06, 2016, 05:44 »
iStock has always been pretty stable for me. I started uploading there in 2011. They make me ~$1,50 per image online every month with 400 images. Only reason they are my lower earner is because it's a pain in the a.. to keyword there and they are very strict on trademarks and releases with models. Need a new one every shoot with exact date etc. I also do vectors and they want sketches and releases for almost everything. Most of it is made directly in Illustrator so on occasion I just made fake sketches afterwards to get it approved. 1/3 of my portfolio os on stock because of this. I wish I had more images there but it's just to time consuming.

Thanks!!! :)

I need to delete 4 images. One of my models asked me to. He is a friend and I want to remove them but I just can't find were to remove them. Can anyone help me before it is to late?

Thanks

Rinder: It might just be your work not only competition. I don't understand why people are blaming the stock agency's. Look at some ports of best selling contributors like this one:

I don't see any of that kind of work, style in your portfolio. You are ranting and complaining all the time but if you look at your work from before 2012 and now you are standing still wile the competition is getting better and better. And yes. There are many newbies, graphic designers and young creative talents that are doing much, much better commercial work. THAT is why some people are loosing sales.

Groman: is your portfolio on SS the same name as your username you use here? With 167 images?

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT is Dead??? Not for me!!!
« on: July 04, 2016, 00:39 »
DT makes me an average of $180 per month with $236 last month and a little over 1400 images. So they can make money. I used to be exclusive years ago. I think I would only make $400 a month if I stayed. You cant make a living on DT alone but it's nice extra money.

They asked me to create a bundle and some bundle images. I have some bundles on CM. This website does not feel right to me so I think I will pass.

Thanks for the reply.

I only read here and don't post because of the negativity and complaining of the 'oldtimers' as they call themselves and trying to discourage newbies. I used to be new here a few years ago (2012) and got some stupid reply's for simple questions or being positive. I now make about $6000+ per month and my 'earnings from new content for last 3 months' on SS is always on $300 to $400. I add a maximum of 50 images and vectors per month. Back when I posted here under another name most here told me it was to late. Some of them make less then I do now and still tell people it is to late. They know it best "since they have been there from the beginning."

Stay positive! I did and it works! :) I get big sales every month. They are not gone at all. I have about 6 to 10 every month going from $24 up to $120.

Nice to hear you had a big sale. More will come if you keep improving and get better. Good luck! :)

You can buy a new camera and a 35 or 50mm lens with that budget. Nikon d610 with 35 mm would be my choiche if I had to start from zero with that budget.

Good luck

Take one of his first comments, that contributors were too stupid to know buyers would want people using the new ipad in images, when if he was working for SS he'd know that there were hundreds of images being submitted from day one, but agencies wouldn't except them for anything other than editorial until there were lots of copycat tablets out there.

[/quote]

Not true. I got ipad and iphone images accepted just by removing the buttons. Never had a problem with that. I don't think we should call people stupid so he's wrong with only that.
