I actually think this is a good thing. But it would make more sense if they make their review process consistent.

Or if they are planning to take nearly everything like istock, then they should have some kind of way of sorting incoming content by style. So customers looking for design elements can find them quickly and those looking for artistic content get their own feed they can browse.

We will see what happens, I am not worried about them.

this basically comes down to there being a need for an improved image SEARCH tool out there. Totally what I think, too, @cobalt. The "finding them quickly" is increasingly the point these days -- pretty similar to web search in the early days of the internet, until websites started coming along in volume!

We (and content buyers/editors/media pros) definitely do need a better search process, one that really works for finding specific images without losing hours on end wading through irrelevant "results"!

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock now selling video
« on: December 02, 2015, 11:43 »
As with all Adobe Stock sales, your commissions are paid directly into your Fotolia account.

There is high demand for video in the industry. We are looking for 5-60 second clips of lifestyle/people, sports, aerial, nature, and general b-roll.

Clips will be sold through stock.adobe.com as well as directly through After Effects CC and
[...]

so I take this to mean that "common" Fotolia accounts are included with this? (That question hadn't been addressed by existing answers here.) Would be glad to know before I bother uploading new clips...

Thanks.

use the mouse to hoover over the icon and be enlightened
I hovered, nothing happened. The little pencil, that explained itself ( well I knew that one anyway), green dial, nothing.

I hovered too, nothing happened, so not just you. It appears to be broken.

spot on -- no "enlightenment" there, me neither.

Funny though how some people "explain" something that they themselves very obviously neither know the first thing about nor have spent a second and tested or tried :)))

Canva / Re: After a hiatus, they're deleting approved files again

That's sad Jo Ann.  Its nice to be able to vent a little bit here sometimes.  Most sites let us say almost whatever we want about them because they aren't that concerned about an individuals opinion.  If someone goes too far over a period of time, they are asking to have their account closed but this doesn't seem like that situation.

Funny how the pattern of sites having good communications and being nice to their contributors until they get established but then turning on them keeps repeating.  I'm going to concentrate even more on the few sites that have been good to work with all along.

indeed -- same is currently being observed at Videoblocks. (In agency years, they're even 'faster' at losing it...)

My Grandmother always said, "Never do anything you would be ashamed to see printed in a newspaper."  I would suggest that agencies shouldn't do things that they would be ashamed to see reported in this forum.

Also, since they are clearly monitoring here they have every opportunity to come here and explain the circumstances from their point of view.  If they disagree with Jo Ann and her post, let them come here and say so.

exactly -- but Canvas have proven to not only be b*stards but a bunch of cowards, too.

Shutterstock.com / Re: How can I become a SS contributor?

SS contributor, but (...) The website sucks.
yes, it does -- have been upset about many aspects of that "experience" for some time myself. So it's not just me  ;)

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Canstockphoto - is it worth it?
« on: November 27, 2015, 16:36 »
for me it went roughly head-on-head with DT, not too bad I'd say. I have only a rather small port (on both of them) though which may make this non-representative? My sales were up to a dollar lately and 50 sales, but I know one usually should expect images to go for mere pennies there...

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 review times
« on: November 26, 2015, 18:51 »
27 days. Video.

Still waiting. Now 35 days which means 5 weeks.😟

inacceptable -- there are schedules to keep, and if you are playing to these you can simply forget about it with an agency working like Pond5 now!

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 review times

Hi,

Are review time at Pond5 getting longer and longer? I remember at the beginning of the year 2015 where review time was between 5 to 10 days more or less. Now I've content that is waiting for review since 20 days ago and counting.

I don't know if they are aware that if they do that with every contributor they are losing money (And so are we too) with potential sales waiting in his servers for nothing.

Are you experiencing this long review times?

same for me -- but to "long review times" you may want to add "unreasonable rejection reasons" for there are a few girls on Pond5 who obviously have their own ports in mind and are rejecting EVERYTHING on ridiculous grounds (like out of focus and stuff) where pictures that have been accepted to basically ALL other agencies are concerned.

Illustration - General / Re: What is best program?
« on: November 26, 2015, 18:47 »
Hello.
I would know what the best program for do illustration and the easier for learn because I dont work with no.

Thanks

instead of going for MS Paint or stuff like that, you might want to go for InkScape or similarly versatile (and open) program suites. It is available for all operating systems (as in Windoze, Mac, Linux) and is free as in Free Beer as well as free as in Free Speech.

I think there is a flaw in your theory. Most serious microstock buyers don't use Google to search for an image to buy. They use their favorite agency. In fact, most of the big advertising agencies have contracts with Shutterstock, iStock, Dreamstime, etc. The search results for an image within the agency, doesn't involve Google.

whether *serious* or not -- microstock buyers, or in fact ALL image buyers, deserve a whole lot better than what Google and other present-day search engines are offering!

Like with microstock specifically, a new approach is needed with reasonable image search in general. Nobody wants to get swamped by millions of "hits" that turn out to be nothing more than garbage and time-wasters. Just think about an editor and how pissed they must be working with "tools" like Google listing everything as a hit regardless of you looked for that kind of image or not.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime End of the road

I have seen quite a few google adverts for dreamstime today.  I'm in the UK and can't remember seeing many before.  ALSO I have received an email from dreamstime in which they are promoting 50% off all images today.

So I'd say they are still working hard.

JC

I wouldn't spalsh too much dirt on DT either. After all, they are still THE original microstock agency, and they're doing a hell of a better job than Shutterstock or Fotolia!

I was thinking about sending Alamy some sports images but it seems like most news sites use places like Associated Press and Reuters and not Alamy, Getty,  or other stock sites.

Anybody know what the arrangement is with how Associated Press and Reuters supplies and sells their images?

you can be pretty sure they prefer their buddies belonging to the "worldwide network" that was schientifically proven by the ETH in Zurich, Switzerland.

Reuters has implemented a new worldwide policy for freelance photographers that bans photos that were processed from RAW files. Photographers must now only send photos that were originally saved to their cameras as JPEGs.

The announcement was made to freelance photographers this week via this short email from a Reuters pictures editor:

Hi,

Id like to pass on a note of request to our freelance contributors due to a worldwide policy change.. In future, please dont send photos to Reuters that were processed from RAW or CR2 files. If you want to shoot raw images thats fine, just take JPEGs at the same time. Only send us the photos that were originally JPEGs, with minimal processing (cropping, correcting levels, etc).

why am I not surprised...

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Selling images through Facebook
« on: November 26, 2015, 18:31 »
Great job Alessandro0770!!

You almost have 3K friend in you facebook profile, this is so good!!

I must tell you two things about facebook, in one hand when you have a profile the friends limit is 5000; in the other hand it is not allowed to create a profile with the name of a company/busniess or anything that is actually not a person, but this is not a big problem now because a lot of people are creating facebook profiles for companies or little busniess.

Anyway you must considere that after you reach the friend limit (5000) facebook administrators checks your profile (sometimes not immediately) and if this is not a real person they transform the profile to a page (you cannot be friend of a facebook paga, just give your like).

I don't think this is a problem for you -- just go ahead and split or separate those, and you'll be fine.

Would be nice to share our experience of selling pics through Facebook. I've started to do that recently and I've to say that the results are not bad.

I've created the following page Millionstock.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/Millionstockcom/683469791696645?ref=bookmarks

and my profile is
https://www.facebook.com/millionstock.photostore

your second link goes "sorry not available" -- am I doing sth wrong?

I need to order 2016 calendars in large quantity.

Does anyone know any reputable printer which can do quality job at prices cheaper than Vistaprint? Unfortuantely, Vistaprint does not offer better prices for large quantities.

you might want to talk to someone like canvasondemand or your local photo store who might have deals in that department.
