Hallo,

How much is it important to upload images in high resolution? And why?
How many megapixels make sense? 20? 30? 50? More? Why?
If you want to answer, please add your years of experience, just for our information and if you please! :)

Hallo!
I have some friends that sell very, very well. They worked as one photographer using 1 account.
When they started to sell for 5000$ a month they started to have problems with our country taxes so they decided to split, open one account per person and level up the whole of their portfolio.

They had the opportunity to try some "what if" experiment: they left every kind of sh*t in the main portfolio and started to upload ONLY the cream in the new accounts or to return and delete what they considered "not perfect".

The galleries with "only the best" performed DOUBLE than the one containing the best and the rest, in proportion.

So if you were thinking "is it a good idea to delete all my cr*p and leave only the best images?" ... well: yes, it is.

Why?

I don't know: I guess it's because of the way the customer see your portfolio: they see a good image, but not useful to their needs: they open your portfolio and see ONLY THE BEST, without cr*p: this probably is impressive and sells! :-)

I'm not able to do this NOW: but when I'll double my portfolio I'll do this for sure: this may halve the time for the customers to find what they want without seeing all my so-so experiments!

My 2 cents, for you guys :)

Hi guys,
I'm finally OK with deep meta 3.x (except for the previously uploaded files that DM itself added too much keywords to).

Now I'm Starting to receive ESP batch reviews e-mails that contain summaries with "Some items require revisions.".

I go online in the Extra Sensory Perception page and wow,  :o, I can find out exceptional details like this: "revise".

::) er... revise WHAT? Where? How? and  most important of all WHY? There are no clickable links, there are no explanations, no details, nothing of nothing.

Ok, guys, I'm not good for getty? ok, I am in iStock and you are earning lots of money ALSO with my files. Good. So they aren't useless. That means I have this minimum right to know what the heck is happening about these reviews:

WHY are files rejected?
WHY are files to revise?
HOW can I revise them, given the God's gift to know why in the world they have to?

Have you, other contributors, found this thing online or did you find something useful and I'm wrong because there is plenty of solutions that I ignore? Thanks you all.

Oh, of course you can ask "but dude, why are you asking this HERE?" :)
Because in the end of all there very useful e-mails there is a very useful statement saying:

If you need further assistance with your Image contributions, please email us here. (here is: ESPStillsHelp AT gettyimages.com )

Good. And what do you think that happens if you write your questions to this very very very useful e-mail address?

In 3 seconds you receive this automated (very userful) answer:

ATTENTION: Thank you for contacting us, but this email address is no longer in use. Please instead:

1.       Sign-in to the Getty Images | iStock contributor system, ESP: https://esp.gettyimages.com

Oh good. You HOPE.
And if we don't find what we need? I looked for the word "revise" "revision" and so on for hours.
And here I am.

Adobe Stock / Adobe Stock SIDE, contributor POV
« on: January 07, 2017, 02:01 »
I've tried Adobe Stock from the contributor point of view.
It's absolutely awful. In no way this is a good starting point for a practical approach to the daily work. It could be fancy, but there's nothing to do at all when it comes to the real work, in real world.

Fotolia isn't perfect, but compared to Adobe Stock it's absolutely Olympus of the Gods.

I tried, then exited and I'll hope I never have to return in that place.

Another big question is that I can't understand what is a sale in Fotolia and what is a sale in Adobe Stock, because of this one-way communication decision not to send Fotolia messages when you "link" FT to AS.

There is nothing practical, convenient in using the Adobe Stock UX to work. it maybe (and remember MAYBE) good for customers, but it's hell for working.

Have you ever tried to do some search? It also seems they have a very personal way to collect MRs ... It seems they read the EXIF data of the files ... so if you did your work 4 years after or before the shooting date they assume THAT is the real date. And so on.
Nothing is really smart there. Fancy, but not smart or serious.

And this is not "hateful criticism": I'm seriously worried because this is my work. They could work more with a system administrator (a person used to work with files) AND a real microstock worker: they could find out some obvious standards. They could discover - for example - the 123rf way of automating "bulk release attachment" and so on.

It would be nice to see this in Fotolia. Really ... Adobe Stock is not a workplace: it's a MARKETplace. And that's good, really.

If you do some tough work in microstock (minimum 100 files a month) : what do you think about Adobe Stock contributor interface? Is it a real place to do some serious work in your opinion?

from the contributor newsletter:

"ADP Copyright Name
In the very near future we will be changing the term 'Copyright' to 'Credit Line' on all Asset Detail Pages. "

do we agree?

Is this fair?

Image Sleuth / ask digital watermarking to stop their trick
« on: August 01, 2016, 20:35 »
Hallo, sorry for my bad English.

As you all know the excuse for almost the whole of agencies when you find some of your images has been stolen is to answer "you're not exclusive with us: we don't know if your image has been stolen from a customer of us or someone else's customer". And have done with it.

But automated processes on a server are a standard for a lot of works for each and every agency. They add a watermark, clean or check metadata automatically, create thumbnails and mysteryously sellable 300dpi TIFFs (when you give them JPG... is there anyboudy outthere unable to convert a uncompressed JPG in a TIFF?) ... and so on.

Why can't EACH of the agencies insert (and let US contributors check this) a digital watermark? Every agency could have their own, some invisible but impossible-to-remove watermark, or simply a metadata (for stupid thieves: I think there are plenty) ...

They HAVE to do something to protect their and OUR content: we strive, struggle and manage to achieve and fulfill each and every request in quality or standard they ask us. And this is right, I know: it's our part.

But they have to better do THEIR part. It seems they are ready to attack us (read all the legal stuff) for a jot ... but when it comes to PROTECT us and our (contributor+agency) content ... they can't hear a thing.

So: It's time to ask TOP, middle and the first 20 low earners to actively do something (and give us some goals they are going to achieve) about this, don't you think?

I think this post have to be visible in more than one of these forums ... admin? What do you think?

General Stock Discussion / Absolute exclusivity?
« on: March 09, 2016, 22:06 »
Hallo Everybody.

I'm not sure I've understood well exclusivity terms on top, middle tier and first 3 low Earners.

I mean: except for those agencies in which there is an option for EVERY image to tell if that image is exclusive for that agency, I have this kind of doubt:

I understand that an agency wants me to be exclusive in this way: what I upload to that agency can't be uploaded in other agencies.

But... if I understand correctly iStock exclusive means you have to work ONLY for iStock ... that you can't upload something else in another agency.

Am I right?
Are there some other Agencies that "seize" you completely and not only your selected work?

PhotoDune / EU VAT and European Photographers.
« on: March 09, 2016, 21:59 »

I saw Photodune collects VAT in european countries on behalf of us.

I guess THIS is the "before taxes" (higher) value I see in my earnings tab.

But if the photogpher is European (s)he has to pay TWICE ? I mean: with US companies we fill that W8BEN forms to apply for tax treaties. That often means we pay our taxes in our country and NOT in USA.

Now, if I understand well, Envato states they collect VAT and they write off those values from our earnings. (FIRST TAX PAYING)

Then I have to pay taxes in my (European) Country. (SECOND TAX PAYING)

Am I right?

Yes: THIS SUCKS
No: Could you explain to me how does it work?

PhotoDune / Photodune Stats?
« on: March 09, 2016, 21:51 »
Hallo,

I just want to be able to understand whats sells. On Envato I can't find simple stats ... tonight "analytics" (I discovered this right now) didn't work ... and it seems I have to browse ALL MY PORTFOLIO and see if there is a particular image selling.

I can't believe this is the way ... But I can't find the intelligent one :-/

Anyone that could help?
