It is difficult to make sense out of what sells there and sales are more sporadic. Also, the dynamics is a little different, you need to be there for some time to work through their ranks and the more you sell the more all of your images seem to advance in the search results.

On Alamy you don't keep watching the contributors dashboard for the next .25c but when sales happens they are usually worth the wait. As with every site, you need to calculate the amount you have earned over a period of time divided by your average number of images during that same time to have an idea of how much you are getting per image. My port on Alamy is twice as big as my port on SS, for example, since Alamy also holds my rights managed collection, and I have earned about 3 times as much there than on SS. So far Alamy it is my best earner.

Now, the photos that sell on Alamy are not the same that sell on SS for me. I would almost venture to say that uploading your micro stock portfolio there is a waste of time except for editorial images and images of places, animals and plants that are properly key worded with place names and scientific names of living things.

My 2 cents hope that helps.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutterstock Dashboard??
« on: February 20, 2017, 14:52 »
There are more important things to worry abou there than dashboard. I don't really care about the dashboard, I just learn to use it. I care about decreasing royalties. Today I got a .25 for a single and other. That's the stuff I care about.

Dreamstime.com / Re: New Images not selling well on DT

It builds up very slowly there. I've been there for one year, have over 700 images and have not collected my first payout yet. Very frustrating.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Canstockphoto - is it worth it?
« on: February 16, 2017, 20:58 »
I see from the Poll on the right that CanStock is showing results similar to BigStock.  Does this reflect reality for most people?  Is CanStock worth uploading to, or are the numbers misleading like Deposit?  Has there been any improvement and/or progress at CanStock since they were integrated into Fotosearch?

If you are beginning now, no, waste your time elsewhere. I made one dollar there in one year. Much more on other sites. It was a waste of time for me.

I was able to log in today, no financial information whatsoever. It says on the Royalties page "Royalties data will not be available until your first transaction has occurred. Please try again next month." ABSOLUTELY NO ACCOUNT OF THE MONEY I HAD IN THERE FROM UNPAID 2016 ROYALTIES.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Are some sites worth the hassle?
« on: January 08, 2017, 20:29 »
I have been uploading to those sites for a little over one year. Dreamstime takes a while to pick up but still it is slow. Istock also takes a while but I have reached the payout within one year and with less than 500 picture in it. I would wait at least a year to make a decision, although there is great outrage over istock's  latest changes. One thing about that site though is that I never made less than .28c on a sale, more than on SS where the minimum sale has been .25c. So I have not given it up on istock yet, it is my second best earner and it is only 20 bucks behind SS in earnings for me over one year. Hope that helps.

I wrote to support, they state that the problem is temporary. It is a long e-mail.

35
Yes they are pretty much saying that the image is ugly but those often sell because most stock photographers avoid ugliness.

They were talking about these e-mails on FAA forum. Go there. Many people got those, it is a hoax.

« on: November 30, 2016, 11:41 »
Anybody experiencing a search-change at SS? because suddenly pictures are selling from my first submission some 12 years back. Its down and out embarrassing they are not even good but terrible!
Surely a change like that and people thats been there for years better prepare themselves for a lousy time indeed.

If you are embarrassed about one of your pictures delete it. The database is not your trash can. Whatever you put in there is to sell.

New Sites - General / Re: What do 500px actually sell?
« on: November 23, 2016, 20:22 »
from me they did not sell anything in one year. I took my photos down, uploaded elsewhere, some have sold. IT is a waste of time there except for networking and playing the populars game, i.e. watching your image get likes and become popular within minutes then sit there to no sales.

If you really want to sell there, submit another batch of images, with more variety, and make sure they have copy space. But why would you want to sell there? Royalties are low and the site does not sell well.

I am confused as to why you are saying they need copy space. I have sold plenty of images over the years that don't have copy space. Please, enlighten us.

This is a test submission, they evaluate your potential for sales based on a limited number of pictures. I am simply suggesting that if you show more variety and that you understand the concept of copypsace you might pass the test.

You need to decide what is more important to you, be right or pass the test. My advice worked for me, DP was my first agency and I got accepted right the way submitting a batch of pictures that showed some variety and most of which had copy space.

Newbie Discussion / Re: similar images
« on: November 15, 2016, 08:51 »
To get away with this kind of thing you can for instance flip one of the images or change the place where the eggs are etc. Then the algorithm that determines similarity will not detect similar shapes in similar positions.

42
Go rights managed. Upload to Alamy.

Jo Ann just wait a while. They held 80 of my pictures for over a month, then when I upload 70 more, after a few days they approved everything.

Every country has its own rules. In Brazil for example you CANNOT shoot commercial photos or videos of any kind without paying a fee and requesting a permit. Period.  :-\

In the US they worry about destruction of the park, so if you land there with models, props, a number of video cameras and ready for the show, you will be approached most likely and asked for a permit.

If you show up with your camera and take photos quietly and don't disturb, don't move things, don't put your tripod in the middle of the trail blocking people from walking etc, you will be fine.

Do you apply for filming permits to film stock video in National parks around the world?

After reading some regulations, US parks already have a topic for stock video and photography.

Regulations for commercial filming are quite strict and fees pretty high.

some are very simple images. Let's keep this in mind. We provide material for designers. Simple is good.

46
Interesting, I would not see this as my problem.

September was a good month for me on Alamy. Thanks!

I've finally left. It was a waste of my time, no sales, no reviews of submitted images, zero customer support.
