Shutterstock.com / Portfolio restored, but earnings all gone
« on: September 02, 2016, 02:26 »
The earnings on my contributor page has been reset to zero. It still shows up correctly in the total earnings section on the monthly spreadsheet. I have never paid out before. Anyone experiencing anything like this?

An update - It appears that this problem is due to a network issue. Sorry for the alarm guys. I will post instagram's reply to this issue.

Do you get any compensation for lost sales, or is it just a case of banning the infringer?

Still seems to be broken. The last image to appear was from 17/Aug/16

Has anyone else experienced this issue. It seems like instagram has blocked my account for putting in my shutterstock portfolio link in my bio. I have not yet recieved a reply from ig, but for those of you out there, beware!

update: when logging in from the web version, it seems like this is a part of an "automated spam block."

Doesn't look so i impressive when you look at the longer term chart.

What caused that huge drop during mid-august of 2015?

Editorials CANNOT be used commercially. They are only for EDITORIAL USE, e.g. on a newspaper. I do not know how you would actually report that person, but you should contact your agency to prevent liability.

60
So has anyone contacted an agency or filed a DMCA takedown yet?

Shutterstock.com / Downloads without keywords?
« on: July 20, 2016, 06:11 »
How exactly do people who download from shutterstock download images without using keywords? I've been browsing the "image gallery stats" on shutterstock and found that most of my downloads had no downloads per keyword. How does this work, or is it some kind of error?

Anyone still make anything on DT these days? I was paid $0.35 after a three month hiatus. That was almost two weeks ago too.

Do people really buy images of words, or those psychidellic backgrounds? I don't do vector though.

64
What kind of difficulty have you been having? The new uploader looks more like a skin change to me.

Haven't had a sale since last April. A grand total of four dollars for 6 months.

I'm pretty sure the tripod is perfectly capable, as it has a max load of ~12 lbs. You should try handling the tripod at the shop to see if it's tall enough for your needs, and how it handles.

Offset wants images with 300Dpi and changing it with a software is not allowed

Maybe they meant that they do not allow image upscaling, e.g. 2 mp --> 10 mp?

Sigma also makes the 24-105 os, and from what I've heard, it seems to be sharper than canon's version, and quite cheaper too.

I've been using a mid-range ASUS (~630ish USD) which has an i5, 8gb ram, and a separate GPU card, and it can run PS, LR without a hiccup. I don't do 3d modelling anymore, but since these laptops can play games quite smoothly, there shouldn't be a problem. I would have to agree with the others on getting the macbook though, as the build on these mid-tier laptops suck. I've been using this laptop for one year and the touchpad has popped out of the chassis, and the screen flickers like crazy when it's on battery power. So unless you're willing to buy a new laptop every 2-3 years, you might as well get a Macbook or something like a surface book.

Both the contributor and consumer websites are down here in BKK, as of right now at 10:41 PM (EST+7). It wasn't so just an hour ago.

Here's the free section:
https://us.fotolia.com/Info/Images/FreePicsOfTheWeek

Out of the entire collection of images that are approved for the free section only 3 images are made available to download each week (that's 3 total, not 3 of any one contributors).

I'm not sure how people know they have 40 or 200 in the free section. Would love to hear from fairplay or substancep how they determined they had that many marked for free. I don't even see a section on my fotolia dashboard showing images that were rejected. It would be nice to have that though, most other sites do.

I do not know how many are actually being downloaded for free. I was just talking about the "free section" checkbox. Even if those images are not selected for the free section, there is always the possibility. This shouldn't even be happening in the first place either, since I specifically chose to not offer my images to the free section in the first place, but somehow, there was a "mistake" that ticked those checkboxes by default regardless.

Names on boats, boat designs, cars, buildings, flags with logos are all protected by copyright. And as others have mentioned, the place too may require a release. Please check this list for more information. As you can see, pretty much everything can be copyrighted, especially if you can recognize its design.

Canstockphoto has no categories, only pure metadata. Beware of mass rejections though, especially with "invalid keywords." Worth a shot if you have free time, but I wouldn't bother re-uploading.

Alamy.com / Re: Any tips on keywording/workflow?
« on: May 30, 2016, 13:30 »
I tend to do keywording in Lightroom now. That way, anywhere I happen to upload the image to, the keywords will be there already.
It's also handy to do it in Lightroom when you have multiple images with a simple subject; Metadata can simply be synced.

I was talking more about the three types of keywords they have, the main, essential, and comprehensive keywords. Do they really matter, or can you just leave all the keywords in one category?

« on: May 30, 2016, 13:21 »
Does anyone have any tips on how they keyword the images in alamy? I have quite a lot of images that have been approved by QC, but the thought of having to manually put the keywords into three different categories for each individual image is very discouraging. How do you guys deal with this workflow?
