hmmm - I remember someone going loudly exclusive with IS because SS was the demon with the subscription model. And what do you say now...?

Professionals deal with professionals*

*this probably becomes one of the most quoted sentences in stock history ;)

Interesting read so far - what do we know about change over time? Thanks for running this survey, Tyler - and congrats to all winners.

Gillian, Ploink, Melimage!  just out of curiosity. Do you have large, medium or small portfolios at SS? with large I mean over 2000 files. :)

mine definitely qualifies as small... .

General Stock Discussion / Re: January results
« on: February 01, 2014, 05:45 »
I had overall a best January ever, even though my January results were slightly down from my December results.
Stocksy was my best earning agency, closely followed by SS. But 123rf and DT showed strong growth as well. On FT my income was halved, but I had expected that.
This is how the overall distribution looked:
Stocksy 33%
SS 32%
FT 16%
DT 13%
123rf 5%

Let's see what February brings.

Learn to handle to Rebel before upgrading to another camera, one can produce awesome work with Rebel cameras. It's about seeing, not the camera.
as for lenses - the 50 prime sounds good. Love my 100 mm macro too.

hope i am in now as well ;)

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Seeking $300 Million To Refinance Debt
« on: December 13, 2013, 13:39 »
FT's payments always take the longest. I requested mine on Dec 1st, still pending. But usually it does not come before the 15th of a month.

123rf is on the list.

Voted too.

Overall, this November was just at the same level as last November. Just this November, I have Stocksy in the Mix - which means all micros performed worse than last year. Nevertheless, Shutterstock came in best overall this month (39%), Stocksy (29%)came in second, Fotolia came in third 17% DT and 123rf were at the bottom with 9 and 6% respectively. In terms of RPD/RPI Stocksy performed best, 123rf worst.

What about a picture thread showing the mug in use at its different places around Europe?

I like that idea!

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy submission critique please
« on: November 28, 2013, 13:45 »
I still find it hard to digest that the people defending the Stocksy collection, and are also accepted at Stocksy are hard core stock shooters, which Stocksy claims not to be. I still have the feeling that the Stocksy start up was more about getting friends and big names in rather then sticking to their own marketing ploy.

I'll take the down votes on the chin, but I am just expressing my thoughts and feelings about this.

Ron, water that down some more. there are some big names from (i)stock accepted to stocksy and then there are a ton of people on stocksy who have not done a whole lot of stock work thus far. It's a nice mixture of folks.

Julie - certainly try again. overall, your images are great and would suit stocksy well, but maybe you can try to bring in some "moodier" images into the mix (if that does not require you to bend over backwards, please, by all means, remain authentic to your own shooting style). (Disclaimer: this advice comes from a small stock shooter, small Stocksy contributor).

And their rebate system means that you earn pennies. RPD and RPI are sinking. I am not even sure if I care whether or not the pending images will be added to my port, because at the moment I feel i do not even want to support this site anymore.

My totals are updated now (they went down as expected), my images are still pending though  ::)

mine haven't either (but i am afraid they'd go down this time)
and the pending images (more than 4 weeks now) have not been looked at either... but the last time I wrote them I was told they had to deal with a lot of images, so I am not sure I should/ want to "hassle them" once more.

General Stock Discussion / Re: October Earnings
« on: November 01, 2013, 02:56 »
Overall I am 20% down in $$ from September (which was a really good month for me), but am up in $$ by 37% compared to last year. I guess I owe this all to Stocksy, as most Micro agencies performed below or at the level they did last year.

Stocksy: BME in $$, best earning agency after being there for only 4 months (39%)
SS: down from September, down from last October (30%)
FT: down from September, but up from last October (16%)
DT: been flat for a few months and slightly down compared to October 2013 (12%)
123rf: after having a BME in September I was having a bad month this month, made about half of what i made last October - with almost the same number of downloads as last October. Due to most of my sales being subs, I had my worst RPDY there and the worst RPI. Since my upload from October 2nd is still in pending, I think 123rf might not be worth my efforts anymore - oh and they bring in 3% of my October income

EMAIL THEM Submission @ 123RF < [email protected] >

Credit where it's due, customer service is top class.

that is true - but i'd rather have them look at my queue in a timely fashion without having to alert them to it.
and this problem does not appear to be a single incidence - but more of a general problem since September. In that case I (as a contributor) rather have an explanation as to why that is (because I am wondering - if I upload seasonal images to them now, are they approved this year or next years?) vs. an agency forum post saying "email me".
Plus - why is 123rf not able/willing to inform their contributors via an e-mail statement themselves?

Sorry, if I sound cranky, but with the low royalties I am receiving at 123rf, I need to find incentives to see if they are still worth my time. Their speedy approval process had been one thus far. If that is gone, that is one less reason to stay.

I've removed my portfolio or deactivated all my best images from several sites.  The problem is, not many others do it.  So all I'm doing is making it easier for the people that carry on using those sites.  Good luck to anyone who leaves BigStock over this.  In my experience, it makes no difference, other than the earnings loss for the contributor.  Don't blame me if the $0.38 goes, I did try to do something but it was absolutely pointless.  There's too many people that couldn't care less about their commission.  I wish that wasn't true but it is.

Perhaps the most positive thing we can do is build up the Symbiostock network?  That seems a better option than trying to stop what seems inevitable with the microstock sites.  Hopefully if there's an option for us to sell direct, the sites will see that they can't keep cutting commissions.

FWIW - I removed my best selling/favorite images from the MS sites and moved them over to Stocksy. :) And yes, with some images I took a risk - as some of them had earned over 100 USD per piece (and thus far haven't sold on Stocksy).

Adobe Stock / Re: Is Fotolia dying? Or what happens?
« on: October 18, 2013, 09:55 »
Here is an observation the is concerning me slightly when it comes to FT.
I regularly read a certain magazine when waiting at my hairdresser. For months I've seen it illustrated largely with images from FT.
Today, I looked at it again - and about 5 in that 100 page magazine were FT - the rest were largely IS/TS.
So FT seems to be loosing market share in Germany, where it used to have a strong showing for years.
Of course, the observation is not representative, but maybe suggestive. It seems to suggest that FT and IS/TS fight over the same market segment/ customer base and FT seems to be on the losing end (hmm with those search results not surprising). I guess this also gives a bit of an explanation why FT seemingly follows IS' price strategy/ race to the bottom.

OF course - it could also be a faulty conclusion as it was made on just one observation.

I bet that very soon they will remove contributors too

Hmmm ... as of tonight, I still have my account there ... they could really start with the ones that WANT to leave.   ;)
