Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia ranking for video
« on: February 03, 2017, 07:14 »
I only do video, no still images, and I am trying to understand how the ranking in FT/Adobe works.
I understand that to get to silver 1000 sales of video clips are needed, and I believe that the same quantity is needed for still image. Is that correct?
If that is the case it would be quite illogical, since selling the first 1,000 video files may take several years, while with still images is only a matter of weeks.
Same thing about the weekly and all time rankings: are the sales of video clips considered like sales of stills? In other words if someone sells 10 video clips in a week he would get the same position as someone who sells 10 still images? Again, it would be really illogical

I think any kind of stock site ranking, likes, comments, hearts, thumbs is a sort of distracting marketing trash, especially when this doesn't increase your commission or increases it by 2%. The only real ranking is the amount of $$ earned.

I have checked with Fotolia CS and they told me there is no difference in ranking between Photos and videos. I also sell only videos. I did not bother to start arguing with them, they are a bunch of people with no real clue sometimes...
very annoying indeed.
Thanks for your reply.
So it is as I thought: a download of a video file is considered like as still image, which is bizarre.
BTW, as Irina said, it is not a big problem

Brightontl u're right....few months ago i refused their membership program and my sales are almost non-existent. A decrease from 400 $ to 100 $ per month, thanks for being seriously P5.
Wow! you refused it! That is brave!
They made it practically impossible to refuse by stating that participating artists would be pushed up in the search, which means that the others would be squeezed out, as indeed happened

General - Stock Video / Re: How was your January?
« on: February 02, 2017, 06:56 »
I do video only, been doing it for less than two years.
Until December I had constant increase in sales, almost every month BME, especially strong on SS.
January was my first really bad month, with SS practically frozen. Only FT performing very well.
February seems to have started very well though.

Otherwise I have practically given up on Pond 5: I was doing decently until the membership plan started last May. After that 0 sales and practically zero views with a portfolio 3 times bigger now. The artists participating to the membership have been pushed up in the search and my files have become totally invisible. Also most sales have migrated to the membership area where clips can be had for peanuts

I am bumping this thread because I am interested in knowing if the new submission tool is still planned.
I have been trying to understand how their submission for footage works and I got a really bad headache

Hi everybody.
I'm taking stock videos exclusive for Istock since 2014. At this moment i have over 900 videos on this agency. I started this job exclusive and i continued exclusive until yesterday. In last one year sales going really bad. I thought this reason push me to  working as a non-exclusive contributor.
In first step i will send videos to Shutterstock, Pond5 and Videoblocks. But i'm not sure this decision is right or not? On last one year my istock sales down to 4/10 of my avarage sales at 2015. What are you thinking guys?
Not easy to give you advice not knowing how much you are earning and not seeing your portfolio.
Things are not easy in footage since Pond 5 introduced their membership plan. Artists who are not part of this plan have practically been cut out because the participating ones have been pushed up in the search engine. As a result, if you are not a part of it, you are very unlikely to get many sales there.
This Pond 5 MP is a sort of all-you-can-eat buffet were video files are given away for next to nothing, so all the customers of P5 are gradually moving there and sales are quickly drying.
In my opinion sales at other agencies are starting to feel the pressure from this unprecedented price dumping and I believe they will start lowering prices to face this competition. Basically video clips at single digit price will become the norm, thanks to Pond 5 membership plan

I agree in part, although I find View is a very interesting info; also a slight increase on commission is better than a punch in the face...
If somebody has an answer I am still interested, although it doesn't prevent me to sleep at night

Anybody else think this is a sign that 123 may be going under?
[/quote]
I hope not, but certainly it is not a good sign

833
Same for me.
Sales of video seem to be very slooowww. Also it takes forever to get the files reviewed.
I believe I will keep uploading for another few months.
When an agency is incredibly slow in reviews I take it as a big worry about their financial health

General Stock Discussion / Re: review time on 123rf for footage
« on: January 13, 2017, 13:02 »
They are extremely slow, and this is not a sign of an agency in good health.
A couple of months ago I had about 800 footage files pending!
You have to email them a couple of times politely asking about it, then cross your fingers and eventually one day it will happen.
I am still uploading there, but I am losing interest

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Prices for 4K and UHD
« on: December 24, 2016, 05:30 »
I wanted to confirm that 4K was meant to be the same price as HD. I thought that was pretty clear, obviously not.
You better hurry up.
Soon 4k will be half price than HD

Very good month! Happy to finally get the promotion to level 5!
 ;D
Is it mainly photos or it includes footage as well?
In other words, is it worth at all uploading video here (assuming that they would one day review it)?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock Royalty Change
« on: October 25, 2016, 17:20 »
I will not load to Getty/iStock because it is them who are driving down prices especially in the 4k market.
I hate to contradict you, but it is not them driving the video price down and not even Envato.
Have you heard of an agency with a membership plan that gives away excellent clips (with a choice of 200.000) for next to nothing, without paying any royalties on them?

By the way I am glad I never decided to upload any footage at this lousy istock

« on: October 16, 2016, 11:55 »
I have 500 video clips waiting for review!

843
I have read on the Alamy forum that video is no longer accepted.
Is that true?
Too bad if it is

844
I use yahoo too and I am not receiving anymore sale email notifications.
But, wait a minute, I am not receiving anymore sales either, so maybe that is why...

Shutterstock.com / Uploading video on SS not working
« on: October 05, 2016, 05:32 »
I had tried several time to upload a batch of about 40 video clips (4k) to Shutterstock.
After adding metadata the files are not processed properly and sits in the "batches pending approuval" without thumbnail and with the message: "image not available".
Is anybody else experiencing this?
Has anyone found a solution?

846
Do you mean $1,000 per month or per year?

123RF / Re: Sales
« on: September 28, 2016, 05:18 »
I have about 400 video clips waiting for review.
I hope when I reach 1,000 I will get a nice price...
Are they still interested in video footage?

848
123RF / Re: Review time at 123
« on: September 27, 2016, 04:53 »
123RF hardly review or sell any videos. That's not the place to put your videos.
Do you mean they are more interested in still images and don't care much about video?

123RF / Re: Review time at 123
« on: September 27, 2016, 04:42 »
I would not mind the wait for review if they actually would get some sales.
But certainly if they are not able to review clips within 3 months, I wonder how can they make sales

123RF / Review time at 123
« on: September 27, 2016, 04:19 »
I have about 400 video clip waiting for review at 123RF, uploaded probably in two and a half months.
My question is: do I get a prize when I reach 1,000?
