I decided to update my keywords and add some relevant ones I missed. I've been doing this just over a year so my earlier keywords can do with some updates. This image was one of the first I uploaded. The word "marijuana" had been added! I personally do not smoke it otherwise I would think I had a little too much that day ;) I looked at my Lightroom file, the image on my hard drive and my keyword file. When I started I recorded all the keywords per image in a file. Of course, the word was not on any of them. Has anyone else had random words added to images? I find it very bizarre!

Same for me, it's very annoying and such a waste of time. I don't usually have trouble using FTP but very often do with web uploader.

I decided to start uploading because of the poll results, looks like better then 123RF, Alamy, Dreamstime, ecc., and I'm already selling on those agencies.
So is that poll old?

It's an indication at best. But the results are old and the sample isn't big enough to have any statistical significance.

And possibly figures are mainly people selling videos. I only have a small port but all those you mention sell much better for me than Pond 5. I sell virtually nothing there.

Yes, that has been my experience with them. I think I only have around a 50% acceptance. I've decided not to upload anymore as they sell almost nothing for me.

How did you go George, were they accepted?

When you sell it's for a better price than microstock but with a small port I've only had three sales in twelve months. There are lots of threads to read here about it.

If you use Lightroom put your keywords, title and description in before exporting your jPeg, then use Xpiks to upload to multiple sites at once. Xpiks is free. You can't use it for iStock though.

I get lots of 22c sales. You all must be on a higher rate? I can't say I dislike them, but I don't sell much there. In 12 months I haven't reached payout yet ☹️
Yes I am in an over 50% band so it's a no brainier for me. It is the best percentage of any of the top sites and subs rate similar to SS's top tier.
Nice! If they still have tiers I can't see me ever moving from the bottom...

You only need city, country, not state. Don't use all capitals. Otherwise mine are always accepted just like that.

I'm trying to sort out which software to use. I downloaded a free trial of Movavi Video Editor and now that I'm considering buying it, it seems I can get Movavi Video Suite a little bit cheaper and it seems it includes the Video Editor. Does anyone recommend this or do you have a better program you would recommend learning with. I didn't want to sign up for the extra cost with Adobe CC.

Thanks, any advice appreciated.

Anya, did you decide which you would use?

« on: February 25, 2017, 20:10 »
The desktop is currently free, but the author plans to charge a monthly fee once the various bugs have been worked out. So the intent is to get people used to the service and liking it, and then introduce a, hopefully, small charge. It is not an unusual business model.

Steve

Thanks, I didn't realise all accounts were included on the desktop app.

Numbers 3 and 5 look awesome. Especially the butterfly one.
I agree the butterfly is amazing. Surely these artists were commissioned and paid?

yep, $.31 by Deposit photos  ;)

So much?!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Ok thx Irina,

But if i understand must im always change my paypal account??
but one ask i must give the passwords in the software microstock from my stocksites accounts, can the people from the software know my paswords from all my stocksites accounts???

example can they stole my money or something
sorry for my english but i hope your understand me  :)
i come from europe

There are a lot of apps which help to work in microstock, almost all of them require account login and password info. Personally I believe most of the popular apps are completely safe. It would be quite a dumb fraud business to develop multiple versions of software through several years and growing loyal community and then try to steal contributors' money just once. Every popular app like Microstockr as a business and a reputation costs way more than that.
`

Yes that's true
But what i not understand microstockr pro for desktop is 100% free so they make not money why they do that? for nothing will the sun go up
but the producent of the microstock pro they have much work always update and all free sorry that's not normal why they do that??

They sell mobile apps and the desktop version is kind of promo for it I guess.

The mobile app is free also but if you want all agencies you need to pay, for instance Alamy is not a free account. I think the desktop is the same, you need to pay if your agency is not among the free ones, correct me if that's wrong.

I believe it's safe. Read their F.A.Q.s for some information about security.

You just need to log into each account you have on the app and away you go. It's great, occasionally things aren't working perfectly but they are usually fixed quite fast. The iStock balance isn't working but I'm pretty sure that's iStock's fault.

The phone app has a problem with showing the thumbnail of sales of a couple of the agencies. Unless it's something I'm doing wrong but all the totals are correct except for iStock.

« on: February 25, 2017, 03:14 »
If you switch to english, there are only 48 keywords.

Thank you! The translation must have been giving the keywords that aren't associated with the image. I didn't think it was possible to add more than 50. Schoolyard is not even amongst them now. My apologies  :-[

Maybe try Xpiks, I've never had a problem with it and it's so easy to use.

Xpiks can upload photos to SS?
Yes, it's what I always use. It's free. You just need your FTP code and you're good to go. Just a warning in case it happens to you... I can't click to upload, I have to drag and drop... just a little fault for some reason.

I use Xpiks everyday but for some reason it got stuck in my head that on SS you can only upload videos over ftp.

Sorry, I have no idea about video but Xpiks is FTP.

Shutterstock.com / How do people get to add so many keywords?
« on: February 25, 2017, 01:29 »
I was searching images to see what terms were commonly used for fairground food pics as I am about to upload some. I found this:

https://www.shutterstock.com/de/image-photo/strasbourg-france-jul-19-2015-amusement-555943387?src=1i33_ETwfegtKTGvE_W-tA-1-5

There are so many words that have no connection such as schoolground but then many words are repeated several times. I didn't think it was possible to use more than 50 keywords? I don't want to, I think it's useless but this person must think it works.

I'm trying to decipher the information on the PDF... what is the difference between iStock Essentials and iStockphoto? I have some decent amounts but I also have some tiny amounts such as 2, 4 and 5c. Truly horrific. There's no way I'm uploading anything else (I haven't since this whole mess started) best earners or not. I'm sure they could care less anyway  :-\

What a mess to try and see which photos sold... I'm searching the number against my port as I have some images which similar names. I don't believe they have reported all sales for Dec and Jan.

Bear in mind that RF costs more on Alamy, which makes sense because it can be used over and over for many purposes.
Most RM on Alamy carries no exclusive restrictions, so it's just a one-off, so costs/pays less. As in business, it's not the uniqueness, cost or quality of your file which necessarily earns the highest money, it's how much of a discount the buyer has negotiated. OTOH, now that the iniquitous Daily Mail has stopped buying there, my RPD has gone up considerably over the past few months, though I'm still waiting for my unreported DM files to be paid for.

Also, with hybrid licences, files designated RF can be sold for the lower RM prices, if that's all the buyer needs (check out any RF file there as though you were a buyer to see what I mean).

Thanks ShadySue... after a year of this I'm still trying to figure it all out because there seems to be so many different views. I guess time and sales are the only way to decide for myself. Until then I appreciate hearing everyone else's point of view.

Yes it's OK I sell between 2 and 6 images a month every month and make more than 123RF/DT/BS & DP combined and more than Fotolia or iStock

But they don't tend to sell the more usual microstock fair

Do you mind me asking how big your port is and how long you have contributed there? I have also only had three sales in almost 12 months nut I like Alamy and hope to do better eventually. I only have about 450 images. I keep reading it's mainly editorial type images that sell well.

Over 3,000 images (photos and archive a mix of editorial and general stock) sales started not long after I started uploading but it's definitely a long haul, expect a year or two before you start seeing regular sales but you may have a portfolio that starts selling well from the get go.

Also don't make the mistake of key word spamming Alamy buyers are more savvy than general microstock and Alamy filters seem to do a reasonable job of putting the good stuff at the top of the searches (most of the time)

Thanks Sammy. For images not on the micros do you usually choose RM? How about now that editorial is a choice? I would really like to go with Alamy and drop the cheaters and low earners. I would rather spend the time uploading to Alamy if it was going to pay off in the end.

I choose RM for better and more unusual images.  Isolated tomatoes on white go RF :D but high class and travel images always go RM.

I usually decide on RM or RF before I do the shoot.  If I have a few odd photos left over I might submit them to RF so long as they are sufficiently different to the RM shots.

Now Alamy take RF editorial all the editorial stuff I had on micro is being uploaded to Alamy too.

You need to go look in the Alamy forum some people have reported sales of $500 $300 and several sales per day or week.  But if you look at their portfolios you will understand why they get those sales.

I do read the forum over there and try to decipher what is best to do but I think I will follow your lead with the RM. I'm also uploading my editorial to Alamy. My head spins when I see portfolios with 20 or 30K images but when I look at those ports there seems to be a lot of similars in them. I don't see the point to having images with just a slight difference, but maybe I'm wrong. Thanks for your advice :)

This new system is horrible. With the old system, at least we got tiny thums to show us what was selling, now we just get file numbers and title.
And the title can be one they made up rather than the original. I thought the "woman in thongs on beach" must be someone else's sale credited to me, but when I checked it wasn't a woman in a thong, it was a woman in sandals. Perhaps Americans call sandals thongs, I don't know, but to me thongs are skimpy pants (which is another problematical linguistic term for our US friends)

I thought it was only us Aussies that call them thongs... ??? Makes you wonder what's going on there.
