General Stock Discussion / Re: Stock Footage YouTube Video

What's up y'all!  I recently made a video touching in on some of my experience in creating stock footage since 2015.  I've been focusing more on YouTube recently, but this is my first video about stock footage.  I plan on covering more topics within this genre... so I'd really appreciate it if you guys can take a look and let me know what you think.  Thanks!

Interesting - what kind of return have you seen on shots where you include yourself versus just generic landscape shots? I've never really included myself in any of the shots.

I don't have any exact stats to compare but I think capturing both the landscape shots and a person interacting with the landscape just adds more sellability to your session

OMG I've been Hikerman many times too (my new name for that role). Loved the video and just great to have a reminder that there are still a few of us out there filming stuff we find beautiful (sometimes in the mundane) and acting like we accomplished something in nature when really we traveled by car, got a MacDonalds on the way and got a mate to film us pondering life's big questions. Loved it!

Haha, for sure!  Adds a little excitement to filming stock

Tyson Anderson, great video! What equipment do you shoot with?

Thanks!  Currently shooting on a Panasonic S5ii, DJI Air 2s, and DJI Action 4.  Went from Panasonic GH4 to GH5s before that

I honestly can't see you making more money by going exclusive anywhere. It may have worked out for some, but I don't think a 50% increase in royalties can be offset by a 4/5/6 times drop in the number of agencies you submit to. If you want to simplify the process then I'd consider submitting to BlackBox. While it's not something I'd normally recommend for a number of reasons, if your goal is to make things simpler then that could be the way to go. 15% loss in your royalties, but just one upload required, and they do hit Level 5 on Shutterstock in the first week of the year... which is nice.

Thanks.  I hear ya, and maybe going exclusive isn't the strategy change I need.

I've been selling stock footage and photos since 2015, with most income from the footage.  Like everyone else, that income has been dropping over the last 3 years.  It has come to a point where the effort put into creating high quality footage isn't seeing enough return to continue with my same strategy, uploading to all the sites.  I'd love to focus on one site to sell exclusive footage with hopes to simplify my process while possibly earning more because of exclusivity.

Does anyone have info on what the best site for this would be??

I'm interested.  Rocking the Air 2s now...might upgrade if the image quality is quite a bit better

1 portfolio with more diversity will earn the most

I don't think it helps sales on the bigger agencies.  It does become a question of it being worth the time when the smaller agencies bring in a small amount each month

Well thank you for the kind feedback!  We work so hard to produce these individual products for the marketplace, and then rarely see where they end up.  It's very gratifying to make creative edits with stock footage.

Not sure if you are interesting on a promo reel of work / stock / errors / family stuff mixture

That was a good reel.  Well cut.   I like the hyperlapses!

Crazy, Tyson. Beautifully done. I've spent enough years as a videographer to appreciate a well-cut presentation. Is editing your background? Good choice of pace, music and composition. That was a lot of work. What's the plans for the show? IMO, I'd enter it. Lots of film competitions around the world worth submitting to.....
Thank you!  Yes filming and editing snowboard videos in my younger years was the beginning of everything I do now.  Unfortunately not a lot of money in it.  I submitted to a couple blogs but really just wanted to get it out there.

General Stock Discussion / Made a Short Film with My Stock Footage
« on: December 06, 2019, 17:46 »
Hey y'all, has anyone edited any films using their own stock footage?  I recently made a short snowboard movie that I started filming middle of last winter.  At that point it was unplanned, but I then resorted to the last few years of stock footage to create a story around an idea I had.  I'll post the link below for anyone that would like to check it out.  If anyone else has made some edits with their footage, post a link in your comment... I'd love to give it a look!

General Stock Discussion / Contributing to Artgrid?

Hello is anyone contributing to Artgrid.io that would like to give feedback of their experience?

Get what commercial videos you have on Adobe Stock and give Dissolve a try would be my best advice.

After Storyblocks's dead i decided to subscribe another site.
What's the best site for videos sellers in your opinion?
I like Adobe to, but i've a lot of editorials so it is quite limited for me. ::)

From what I understand, Pond5 specializes in video, which sells well there.

I can't speak to that, since I've just uploaded a few hundred videos there and am still awaiting my first sale in that department. (I've got many stills there, but compared to SS, AS, and the like, they hardly sell at all.)

Please excuse my ignorance, but why is Storyblocks dead...? Just getting started and also registered there. Would appreciate your reply!

EDIT: I guess it's related to what is being discussed here...?

After a while of uploading some mediocre images to Fine Art America and completely neglecting them, I'm finally about to add some higher quality images and give Print on Demand another shot.  I embedded the widget to my website, which looks clean and professional, but I don't like how many print options there is available...

My question:  Is there a way to limit the amount of print and frame options on a photo by photo basis?  To clarify, I would like to only sell metal and acrylic on one image, but then have only canvas on another.

It looks like I'm able to deselect all the other household print options.  I can also specify exactly what print size options I want available for each image.  I just don't see a way to deselect all the frame, matte, and paper options.  To me it seems like it would be a lot of work for the average customer to think about.  In my opinion, people want a lot of those details figured out for them.

Anyone with experience in these matters?

General - Stock Video / Re: Vertical video anyone?
« on: February 01, 2019, 15:07 »
It makes sense with so many ads popping up for smartphones.  I've shot a few vertical videos but no sales yet.  I think demand will increase though.

They're Live?!  I'm pumped!  Uploaded a bunch of photos their months ago.  Interested to see how this works out

Adobe Bridge is solid!  I just wish all agencies could read the embedded metadata... get with the times people!

Photography Equipment / Re: The Best Unlimited Cloud Storage?
« on: January 23, 2019, 16:56 »
Great topic!  I need the same as I'm pushing over 10tb.  Planning a trip to Chile and hoping for a solid cloud service to upload from down there as a backup.  Either Dropbox or Google Drive... anyone with experience using both have a preference?

About a year after I started I was really proud to make my $220 car payment off monthly earnings.  lol.  Hope that helps.
