General Stock Discussion / Selling Photo Prints Online
« on: March 18, 2016, 12:46 »
Hi I was recently reading the threat about Fine Art America and wanted to start a new thread about the topic of selling photo prints online.  I'm only about a year into selling stock footage and less than a year into selling stock photos, but the last few months I've been selling quite a few photos daily, and wonder how much money I'm missing out on by not offering a physical print.  At this point I don't have time to do the printing myself, so I have researched a few sites that handle all that like: Fotomoto, Smugmug, Snapfish, Shutterfly, and FineArtAmerica.  Not sure if any of them are worth the time, but I would love to hear some feedback from the more experienced people in this forum.  The only thing I did come up with is that they all take a pretty big commission for their services.  I would also like to know if anyone has integrated these printing services into their website.

I'm sure it's hard for the vets to watch the market get saturated and see profits dwindle away compared to what they used to be.  But for someone like me who just discovered this industry in the beginning of 2015, it's still a great way to channel my passion.  I've shot and processed photos and videos for years purely out of passion (along with freelance work).  Now i have a way of working on my skill while making a monthly profit.  I then re-invest profits to acquire more equipment and increase profits.  There's no way of convincing me this is a waste of time considering i already spent my free time doing this without income.  I think it's just best to be practical about what you'll get out of it.

About 8 months ago I offered one of my clips as a free video of the month. I did see a slight increase in related sales. Out of the 5000 free downloads I had 10 sales of a related theme. So nothing to amazing but deffinatly a slight increase. It also helped a file reach higher in the search and so I've been getting more sales since.

Thanks.  Which site was it?

Ok, sounds pretty unanimous, hasn't helped anyone.  I appreciate everyone taking the time.

Hello, I'm new to Microstock Group and this is my first post.  Been following discussions for a while and figured I'd get involved.  First question is one I've been wondering for a while.  Has anyone experienced an increase of traffic to their portfolio or sales after offering clips or images for free?

(I apologize if this has been covered before)
