iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock worth uploading?
« on: September 06, 2016, 06:54 »
I'm newbie here and have nothing to lose so I'm sticking with iS until they make that changes and if I don't like them, well I will delete account.

Here's why places can get away with the things they do.

Well I don't think we could compare. My pictures are average at best since I'm still learning both rendering and photography and I'm happy with every sale I make and it is no fair for me to ask tens dollars for pictures that aren't top quality.

If I capture some great shots or make some great 3D renders I would normally ask more money for them, by which I mean I will see where would upload things.

I don't see problem with that? And if iStock decides to lower our earnings I will also delete my account there, like I said in first post. But for now I have nothing to lose.

As far as I understand, everybody is leaving because they don't allow you anymore to delete your images. Or they have to approve it. And they have some changes to announce soon, so they are afraid that they could lower our earnings.

And about downloads, they come, but not too much. Aldo I'm not good parameter since my photos are not in some great quality and I don't have lots of them. But if you are OK with options that you can't delete your own images that I guess that for now you can't lose anything by uploading there, but maybe you won't earn much.

Hvala!

I'm on iStock for 3-4 months now and in this month I reached my first $100 but I haven't yet set payout type or actually opened account in bank or Paypal. So if I don't do it until September 1st what happens?

And also what is the best way to get money (with minimum taxes and bank/paypal expenses) for a non US/EU citizen?

Thanks in advance!

Well I believe you know better about that, at the end I had only 17 years back in 2011 and had no idea whats stock photography :)

Well I don't know how big part of buyers are news agencies but I believe that all of them was fulled with Olympics related pictures, like most of the internet these days so its probably resulting in decreasing number of downloads for us who don't have Olympics content in portfolios. Again, don't know how big impact can be here, I have been in business for just couple of months so I don't have anything to compare with.

Maybe its in the year car is made? I remember there was talking about it in that iS quiz you need to read before becoming contributor.

Maybe because of Olympics? I've had similar thing on SS and since I'm newbie I can't tell what it is but during Olympics I had just 1-2 sub sales and no regular sales, now when Olympics are over everything seems to be back in normal (1 or 2 subs a day). And on iS I always have less ten credit sales so can't say what's going on (I'm now at 7 this month).

PP green bar have been coming in. That's mainly Thinkstock right? or does that include other things? I have had a couple of of GI connect and GI sales but they are never more than a few of cents. I am an independent.

Thinkstock sales ended I think a week or two ago. Dose from last night are Getty sales. Both are shown as green color (don't know why by the way, there is color for GI and GI connect).

It could be seen without toolbar but not in the graph. I found out what picture it was, went on view download history and under partner program tab it says if it is Getty, Thinkstock or Partner Portal (at least I got just those three). It is easy to track it for me because I don't have many files and downloads so I keep tracking it to know what sells the best and where. In stats on main page all of these sales are green.

How do you know they're definitely from Thinkstock and not Getty Plus, which can be for any amount? Both show green on your stats charts.

Well first thing is that Getty images are not showing yet (for me at least), since I'm noob I don't understand all about which images are on Getty but I think I don't have Getty Plus images.
Other thing is that since I'm newbie with small portfolio and not too many downloads I can find out which image has been downloaded and see where is it downloaded from.

I don't know if this is weird or not since I'm newbie here (uploading images just for few months now) but today for the first time (after more than 200 Thinkstock downloads) I noticed picture that didn't earn 0.28, but 0.60.
Rest of downloads seem to be all for 0.28.

As someone who has registered to SS about two months ago all I have to say is that in August I had 4 downloads ($1 earned) comparing to July with 28 downloads ($20) and Jun with 41 download ($12).
Looks like this is really bad time to start micro stock business :)

I got the emails too.  Was nice to have some royalty adjustments in my favor for once.

Like many others, I never bothered trying to find or use their new forums.  Would someone in the know want to share the revelations?  I don't see a reason to drive traffic to their site.

The message in this e-mail was an error. These were actually adjustments to subscriptions from June.

I'm not sure they were subs since I got one mail with just one picture but with 0.72$, I get 0.28$ for subs so I think it can't be it. I doubt they paid me more because they felt sorry for mistake. But it was from June since that picture got accepted on 20th June.

Did that picture sell as a sub in June? The .72 is a 'bonus' meaning the sub plan should have paid you $1 not the $.28 you normally get. IS has been giving us this 'bonus' money as ambiguous money after the subs all get reported for several months now. This e-mail basically was making it not so ambiguous but actually telling us which images sold for more than the minimum sub price (which in my case is also 28 cents). I had four images get a 72 cent bonus, each of which gave me a 28 cent sale in June.

It was sold as sub, 12 times, plus Thinkstock sub downloads. But I thought that all subs are paid .28, I don't get that 'bonus' thing.

« on: July 25, 2016, 17:28 »
Hi there,
I just got today a sub download that earned me 0.26$. I thought that every sub download brings 0.25$? Until I earn 500$ ofcourse. Did SS made some changes? My last sub download was yesterday and it was normal 0.25$.

0.08 showed up few days ago, heard about 0.01

47
Sorry, didn't saw its about SS :)

48
Same here. I received some time ago 0.01 so... 0.08 $ is good :))

.01? God that's low! So next step could be they sell an image and we don't get anything? I mean 8 cents just aren't wort the effort to make the picture.

49
Newbie here,
is it normal to get 0.08$ for a probably normal sub sale over Getty Images? Cause thats what I got today. I mean its really low. Maybe its not the greatest picture in the world but again eight cents!

Off Topic / Re: Sigh of relief... Ban of pirated website
« on: July 21, 2016, 09:40 »
OK i need to defend my self now :)
I'm against piracy, but they can't beat it like that. Since I really enjoy good movies and I don't have enough money for tickets I'll watch piracy films. Is it OK? No! But who of us didn't watched pirated movies or TV series?

If they want to kill Kick ass and Pirate bay they movie theaters need to lover down ticket prices. In worst case scenario for them they will earn same amount of money but all views will be legal. And they will probably earn more than they earn now.

Taking down a site or two wont change anything. Same is with music and photography.
