Fotolia is a complete mystery for me, while having daily sales on SS and IS, I maybe have one a month on FT and every second one is 0.18. At least the upload is straightforward enough.
Where are you from I think Fotolia suits the European market more?

Historically that's true, old FT was more European. Now the Adobe buyers are adding graphics and illustration income in addition.

From the first day the lowest ever commission was 25c, now it's higher. Never 18c ever. 99c, $1.65, $1.38, $2.30, $1.84, others.

Well it says 0.18 credits, I assume it's 1 credit = 1$.
When I go to My credits page there is like:
photo sale +0.25
-0.08 Withholding, image sold with subscription
so it's 0.18 give or take.

Serbia, not EU, but surely with aesthetics more in line with Europe than US and I'd say my photos are more organic than the traditional stock look. Strange but still not judging, I'll make a call after I have a 1000 sitting for a few months at least.

In the meantime can anyone web programming oriented explain why do they need 3 day window to send emails? My understanding is that the email is once uploaded and then copies are sent to a number of addresses which is I guess just a bandwidth ting on the side of server or ISP (which I guess company of their caliber has an adequate amount). I'm doubting their provider would say something like: "Whoa, that's a lot of emails you want to send out, you gotta sent them in groups or you are going to clog us badly"

Seems like it, I was really looking forward to 1. February, this is too much. I mostly get partner program sales and this leaves me in complete dark, just hoping to be pleasantly surprised if it eventually happens on the 20th.

Email from iStock stated that everything should fall in place on (or after) 20th February, all those invisible (if any) sales during this blackout.

They gotta pay for that second floor they just started renting in the Empire State Building somehow.

Could you imagine how great a company Shutterstock could be if they respected where their content came from as much as they indulge themselves? If only they chose to pay contributors fairly instead of blowing ridiculous amounts of their profits on excessive luxuries like some of the most expensive office space in the world...

Isn't that just the way capitalism should work, that the ones that happen to be in the right place, in the right time and made a move get all the luxuries while others gather crumbs? It's all in vain since there will always be someone somewhere who will work for almost nothing out of desperation and deliver the same quality. It happening in the whole world, in every industry. Why would microstock be an exception?

« on: February 02, 2017, 04:05 »
Just to add in, as a newbie with some 150 photos, January was my BME but I can clearly see the pattern why, I started uploading regularly 3-5 images a day and as soon as they go on sale they sell (depending on the type and demand for it) and then the next day it's back to where it was.
It has a logic, buyers come and sort by NEW, but beyond I can't comprehend how could a buyer stumble upon my photos in a sea of others, there is just that much keywords, I could go with more unique images but that hasn't proved fruitful before, some things are just in high demand and some things aren't I guess.
Still it could be that my sample is so small to pull any meaningful conclusion.

Since mentioned, I must have missed them, but I'm from Serbia and decently active in photographic communities and I've yet to come across such a productions companies, look for photographers or even anyone mentioning them. There are individuals here and there and that's all.

this is from serbia very good quality...i'd like to know their cost of production..i suspect very low...

in micro there are more russian and ukraine production

I don't know where my reply went, obviously not here.. Anyway, that's a legit high-end company, with that kind of quality and experience they are probably doing a lot of other stuff. But nothing in their photos seems cheap I tell you, yes rent is cheaper, models are cheaper (I don't think these guys work only with friends and people who like being photographed for free) and similar, but taxes are not cheap, creating west world lifestyle atmospheres and tech in a post socialist, post war, post bombed country is not cheap or easy, even in the capital city. Also while people work here for 200-250 euros average (at best) those photographers aren't making those photos for anything less than 1000 euros a month, minimum. I was more having on my mind kind of pseudo companies creating average photos or even spam, this is something else, this isn't cheap at all.

I tried to quickly figure out which photos I had waiting for indexing and I gave up until I get some good sleep.

So my account in local bank is strictly in USD (I can set EUR if I want to but it's USD ONLY as it is) and is totally different from my account in domestic currency (RSD, Serbia) and I have that account tied with PayPal. You are all saying that PayPal will convert USD to RSD and then again from RSD to USD and then send transfer me the money in USD? Doesn't sound logical to me.

Sure I must convert USD to RSD between my accounts in local bank but that is fee-free with my bank.

Logical or not, PayPal won't send USD outside the country as far as I understand. Naturally, they want their juicy fee.

But If they send me money in local currency it would bounce I guess since my account can accept anything but USD, or if my bank converts from local currency sent by PayPal before filling my account then I'd lose nothing since my bank ain't charging me for conversion. I'm still not sure any of this happens except when the bank account is set to receive EUR only.

How's that possible, my card is USD only for instance, are you implying they are converting USD to EUR and back again to USD before sending money to card?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Balance Issue
« on: January 27, 2017, 04:20 »
Same here, some 60$ vanished, but they kind of said in the last email that the stats and balance will be erased for anything prior to 2017 and urge us to download report before the deletion happens.

iStockPhoto.com / Interesting model release rejections
« on: January 27, 2017, 04:16 »
So after waiting a month for files to be inspected I got 80% of them accepted while 20% from the same shoot with the same model and the same release (Yuri's) got rejected for model release, stating I need shoot date (provided at least in two places) and model birthday (full color ID on the release as a reference). Not sure if I should just resubmit with the same release...

443
I never knew that Robert de Niro is working for SS :D

444
My understanding is that they have blinkers for blacks and highlights, just like in editing apps, which are easily "tricked" if you cut off just a tiny bit of the extreme ends with tone curve. You can observe this in photos you mention, backgrounds are blown, but they are not pure white.
Thou I don't think this approach would be suitable for the type of shots like the one you presented, you don't have an obvious strong backlight, you just have a wide dynamic range and you need to expose for the background and light the model separately.

General Stock Discussion / Re: ESP: February payment (?)

Contributor relations I guess.

Thanks, I'll just probably stick with the .mov, never used 422 as I'm on PC (and Nikon) and those file sizes would be a serious deal breaker for me. Was just wondering about what is the universal one you guys usually use to speed the things up, will read some more too on each agency.

I was more eager to know about the quality standards, when I look at the videos on agencies the quality is quite diverse. It's important to me because at the moment I don't have any video lighting equipment and will have to use available light, so I wanted to know if I should bother at all. If it needed to be just perfect as with photos I'm not sure I could pull it off or at least I would be seriously restricted.

447
Well should be very easy to make a fake one out of your photos (with your signed property release) and random text and just photoshop it in place of the original or print it for the next time. Even easier with photo magazine, less arranging and less text.
*off to design some fake newspaper and magazine pages*

448
Thank you.
So basically it's a bit grey area...

449
I can't seem to find much info or the video quality guidelines on the agencies I submit photos to. I've found general guidelines but they don't talk much about this as they do about codecs and camera shake.
Are the quality standards the same for video as they are for photos (tack sharp, zero noise etc)?
Or if anyone can point me out to some guide about this on SS/FT/P5?

Also, what would be the codec that works best across agencies, considering a decent file size since I have a mediocre upload speed?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Model Release
« on: January 18, 2017, 03:43 »
Yes you can, I don't think they bother much, I've use the same release for my girlfriend a month apart, different location and different clothes, no problem, how could they tell if the shoot were taken a few months or few minutes apart.
Though I wouldn't do that for other models outside close friends and family, for own protection.
