Shutterstock.com / Re: huge sales drop for new images
« on: July 05, 2018, 15:10 »
I just Like to see the work. call me crazy. people can write till there blue. oh, on a good Note and Bad note June was my Best month On SS in 27 Months. good but sad.Vast majority was 6/7 year old stuff.

Pretty much the same for me: June was my best month on SS in 20 months, except that my new stuff has a decent selling rate.

And no, you are definitely not crazy. I also "like to see the work".
What I don't like is to share mine.  :P

There's another place I can agree. I sure enjoy that most popular on SS is totally absurd and wrong. At least someone can't go look at my best sellers and start making copies or better versions. That's why I don't post my latest great seller or best earning shots. I'm not inviting 100 thousand people, scuffling for quarters, to come copy my ideas.  ;D

New images will struggle up hill against the flood of new images coming down. I've pointed this out before but for some reason people don't see the serious effects.

2010 10 million images, sales were still reasonably good.

2012 (when the big earnings drop started) 20 million images

Now 200 million images and 1 million or more, new a week. How many buyers are there, what's the demand or need? That would have also needed to grow 100 times and even then, ratios don't explain that the market is just not big enough to sell like it did, with less competition. I'd have to upload 100 times my total, every year, just to keep up. Or we'd need 100 times more buyers every year?

Slice of the pie is going to be smaller. No way around that. The growth of earnings in Microstock has stagnated, for many regressed.

Every other "general" agency is the same or worse. Maybe, a select few agencies are still growing because they are selective, concentrate on video, or have a specific market.

this is a finished business for contributor. still there is some spare mont to be done, but how many contributor earns to make a real living n a modern country? micro can be a good side line earning. primary income is and will be soon impossible. 1millon  images added per week, and it' only the beginning. we soon see 2 3 4 5 10 million per week. there are thousand of potential contributor living in poor country where e en 50 dollar can make a difference at month. personally i'm earning more this year but the work put to earn a 5 % more is abysmal, and not rewarding. i still have a long backlog to upload but i am more interested in rm and small boutique agency.
I live in Venezuela, that true, $100 it's good money. You can live for a month with that $100.

Dead and dead!

One of the reasons why I never shoot anything that breathes or talks.
Way too risky, not worth at all in my opinion, especially where I live.
Even if I never ever shoot people, I almost got arrested for pedophilia once when doing a timelapse of a merry go around on a beach.
Lesson learned, I don't even shoot animals now. You never know...
And remember, Testino, Weber and Richardson all got in trouble
Where do you live?

381
I have uploaded images and they don't show in "Not yet submitted" section.

I just mean anyone who does not need the income from micro to survive.

Yes, that.  For survival, I hear that McDonalds is still hiring ...

Does Mc Donald's hire old people?

All other phones including newest iPhones and googlophones are pure crap and could not be submitted.

Crap or not, but they are just as good (or bad) as 99% of the drones out there, from which footage and images get accepted and sold in great numbers everywhere.  :)

yeap, if newest smartphones don't have appropriate sensors (in terms of physical size), then drones don't have them definitely.

That's right!

Considering this isn't the most commercially appealing and versatile of shots, perhaps he should be happy to earn 25 cents.
Nice photo, where is that?

During my 10 years in Micro I've come to know lots and lots of people and the very few I know that can actually live on micro-stock have got extremely specialized work not big portfolios but very niched content.

There are lots more living well off RM content but then again they have been in the business long before Micro-stock came about.
Thanks! :)

Depends where you live and how many files you have. I would say about 10,000 good quality and variety photos would yield some decent income to live in a developing country.
Thanks!

This is the first time ever that I won't make the $35.00 min Payout for this month of September--2017.  I am sadden.

Ever? On your first few months you started uploading and they started selling right away (>$35/50)?

You are right, it's a bit confusing for me!

Hope some day to live from MS.

Adobe Stock / Re: Call for content
« on: May 15, 2017, 09:41 »
Hello All,

Not a week goes by where I'm not asked at least once what type of content Adobe Stock is looking for. The general, catch-all answer is that regardless of the subject matter, buyers are looking for authenticity. Real looking people in real situations with genuine expressions and interactions.

That remains true and I expect it always will. That being said, a more specific list of content needs and requests has been generated. If you are looking for some motivation on what to shoot next..look no further than the list linked below....

MatHayward, thanks for your help!

hi, i'm upset, Istock don't let me upload more files, this is the message appear.
"Error: 'submission_batch' maximum number of contributions reached"
I have only 73 files on Istock.

Are you uploading through ESP? There you can have multiple 'submissions' each containing multiple videos or images. Maybe the maximum is 73, and you need to create a new 'submission' so you can add a new bunch of up to 73?

Probably wrong, but just thinking of potential reasons... as I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people who have more than 73 items in their portfolio!
Yes, I'm uploading through ESP.
But, Istock it's a good place for selling photos?

Hi Brasilnut
You should use a tripod, for stock. With this kind of images where i have control i use ISO 100. Remember this images have to be with not noise or minimum noise.
What's the name of that wood you use?

So I started this business in October... I'm up to a portfolio of 750 on Shutterstock, and similar at other sites. I really have only been uploading regularly to Shutterstock, Adobe and iStock... some Dreamstime and Bigstock. Everywhere else seems a waste of time. Anyway, today I sold an extended license for the first time. Woot! And a few days ago I discovered my image in Forbes. Very excited. Seems like business is getting a bit better with each hundred photos. I also started a YouTube channel which adds some more fun to the whole thing! Just wanted to share!    ;D
Congratulations! It's a good begining. ;) Could you share the link? please

On Alamy I find it varies a lot from month to month, both number of dls and net $$ per dl.
This month I have only 3 dls, but almost $110 net. Sometimes I've had a lot more dls with a lot less $$. Sometimes I've had more for one licence.
Hi ShadySue, im not a native english speaker, what's mean net $$ ?
Thanks! :)

Sorry for my bad english, i'm triying to improving it.
