Off Topic / Re: snipers shoot dead police officers in Dallas

I could not agree more. I am just saying what is the issue. Republicans and their view of their constitutional rights.

I am sure that these constitutional rights could still be there - but make it much harder to get a gun. Background check, psych eval, drug testing, 200+ hours of training, etc. Make it expensive. You are still guaranteeing these constitutional rights but not everyone could buy it.

When I was in States (I live and work in Bosnia now), it was weird to me that you could go to Walmart and buy guns like its a freaking candy. It was right there on the shelves like anything else.

So to sum it up, I agree with everyone but the reality is something else. Republicans will be republicans, democrats will be democrats

No you will not get an argument here.
Your assumption is correct. I meant non law enforcment shootings. What you are implying is yet completely another issue.

Americans have their constitutional rights and they always go for that one when it comes to guns. And I am almost positive that most of these shootings are not legally purchased guns.

There's  nothing wrong with parliament wanting another referendum when we have the actual deal to vote on.  The leave side were talking about having a second referendum if they lost this one.  They even started a petition for a second referendum when it looked like they were going to lose.  As the result was so close, when nobody in the country really knew what the exit deal would be, I think it would be wrong not to have a second referendum on something that is as important as this is.

No nothing wrong with that if it is for right reasons. As you pointed those reasons, that would be OK.

...And I read what someone wrote that if UK decides to stay in now that they could get better benefits.... No. This will not happen at all. UK already had more than any other member of EU. And even if it is the case, nobody would ever consider UK serious - we want out, uuuuu benefits we want in - we dont like this we want out - uuu benefits - you get the point
Isn't anything better than the possible domino effect caused by a UK exit?  The UK still pays in much more than it gets back from the EU.  If the negotiated exit deal is bad for the UK, public opinion might change.  The Brexit side promised all sorts of things that they probably can't get without crippling the UK economy.  If our parliament rejects the deal, another referendum would seem inevitable.

Yes it probably will be domino effect  - big time. It already is. But I honestly thing that whoever is saying that UK pays much more than it gets back from EU is incorrect. Just the access to the market is payout itself. Don't get me wrong, UK will still have same access but not under same conditions.
Politically, regardless if you are for or against Brexit, I think that it is safe to agree that parliament has to accept the will of the people. It would be EXTREMELY stupid to have the referendum and for parliament to come out and say - naw, we don't accept these results. We are staying in EU.

Anyway, if I was from UK, I would have voted to stay but that is just my opinion and is not any better or worse from those who say no to EU. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

What is interesting is whether:

1. Scotland could veto Brexit? It might not be very likely, but the Scottish Parliament must represent the will of the people of Scotland. From what I have read, the constitutional status of Scotland is somehow linked to the EU (Scotland Act or something else). Scottish MPs do not need to care at all how the English voted, their job is to represent Scottish interests, so if they find a legal loophole to block Brexit, they would probably do so.

2. If they cannot block Brexit, could they remain in the EU (possibly with N. Ireland and Gibraltar) while England and Wales leave? (I mean without proclaiming independence) It might seem strange at first, but: 1. The Isle of Man is represented in foreign matters by the UK, and it is not part of the EU. Other British Overseas Territories also don't belong to the EU. 2.Greenland belongs to Denmark, but it left the EU in the 1980s while Denmark stayed.
I don't think Scotland can veto Brexit. They would need a Independence referendum which is by no means a certain outcome they would also need to negotiate a deal with the EU no easy task with Spanish concerns about independence movements in their own country  and the small matter of currency. I cant see how they can can be part of the UK and in Europe just not practical.

I read one article the other day. Along the lines it said that "theoretically" it could but this, but that trumps this, this trumps that.... It was very confusing since I am not from there but there were several Legal acts.
Fact is this is pretty much new territory for everyone - legal, economic, etc. Next couple of years should be interesting.

And I read what someone wrote that if UK decides to stay in now that they could get better benefits.... No. This will not happen at all. UK already had more than any other member of EU. Reading all these replies.... The vote was close enough that there will be going back and forth for a while for Brits as well for the rest of the world. One thing is certain - UK is already not so much U any more

Not even the best analysts of the world can predict what will happen next. Too many potential and possible scenarios. Everything everybody is writing is 100% true. Weak pound - more export. Potential recession. Import vs. Export. Yes all very valid points.
What we all know for sure is that this is global market. GB voted to opt out of EU - stock market in Asia is crashing. Americans are going nuts about it. It is one large web that connects everything.

Adobe Stock / Re: JPEG is too large for uploading
« on: June 23, 2016, 13:00 »
for the price of what we are paid do the buyers deserve the image at higher resolutions? For example, the newer canon 5DS (50 mp) cost almost five thousand dollars (body only) plus the cost of decent lenses.  Do we get more $$ for using this high end equipment- No!

The microstock model wasn't created to offer images using high-end equipment, or high-dollar shoots. If a photographer wants to pay $5000 for a camera to shoot microstock, that is their choice. The same job can be accomplished with a camera under $1,000. If you have high-end equipment and want to make more money, there are macrostock agencies to submit to that will help you recoup your expenses.  :)

Agreed

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT has died for me
« on: June 23, 2016, 01:02 »
Definitely not for me! My sales are actually getting better and better at Dreamstime!

My Dreamstime portfolio is just 1084 images total and it consists of "Slovakia travel" images mostly. Nature, landscapes and historical cultural heritage sceneries, such as pictures of Slovak castles, medieval towns or outdoor museums.

I have sales almost every day there! I mean, for example today I had 4 sales, yesterday 6 sales, the day before yesterday 7 sales, etc. These sales are of various types, some are subs some are credit sales. Last month I had total 195 sales at Dreamstime! It was actually my best month ever there!

This year I had 385 sales at Dreamstime total, so far.

It seems that pictures of Slovakia are in great demand there recently, maybe because of Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Who knows? But, I guess, thats the reason.

Anyway, I am very satisfied with my sales at Dreamstime. I really can't say anything bad about them. :D
A reminder that you cannot always make sweeping conclusions based on your own experience for me DT is in slow decline but sounds like you have found an area in demand nice one :-)

So now we have to travel to Slovakia in order to get a lot of sales on DT.  ;D

It should work for me since I might be moving there :)

AFAIK the one time we filled it out is good until our circumstances change, particularly if we change country.
ShadySue is correct. Any changes require a new tax interview. Even as small as the address change

You are right, I just read a treaty (part about the royalties).
My suggestion is to let it be (unless you overpaid some serious amount of money) and then change the status of your Tax applicant - this part you should check with iStock - or if you did not do the Tax Interview - do it now with the 10%

General Stock Discussion / Re: Istock tax
« on: June 22, 2016, 07:54 »
And how is it that you only have to pay 10%

30% is automatic for anyone not being US citizen or a citizen of a country that has a Tax treaty with US. As far as I am aware, there is a tax treaty between Ukraine and US but only for double taxation. In this case, and I might be wrong, you are under the 30% - hence my question how is it that you are claiming to be in the 10% bracket.

To answer ShadySue, I believe that all stock agencies put you in the 30% bracket (if registered account is non US) and after filling the Tax forms (tax interview) put you in the appropriate bracket (or leave you in the 30% in my case).

If they filed the Tax forms (which they did, april is deadline), only IRS can help you by filing the Tax return. Good luck with that.

General Stock Discussion / Re: EyeEm
« on: June 21, 2016, 09:19 »
I have to really check that. In the professional reviews it is written that my camera makes mushy photos and over sharpens the jpegs. I just had a photo rejected by Fotolia that SS accepted and also sold today. On the other hand, the outside photo SS rejected Fotolia accepted.
Fotolia rejects for unclear reasons and what sells well in one agency might not sell at all in another.
Actually one of my bestsellers at SS was taken with an iPhone.

I think you are being unfair. Fotolia always gives at least a half dozen reasons. You get to pick one or more. :)

I think if I get outside images rejected  by SS , I am not good enough for Alamy or Getty.

Unbelievably it's much easier from a technical standpoint to get pictures accepted by Getty and Alamy than it is at SS.

I agree. I had images accepted at Alamy that I think are not worthy to be there at all.
Last time I checked Alamy doesn't review images, only a spot check, unless they changed it now?

Getty likes to accepts only 1 or 2 images from a whole batch with the reason: the strongest variations in this series were selected blablabla although the rest of the batch doesn't look similar at all. SS never rejects with that kind of nonsense.

I am not sure. Could be the reason why they accepted them.

I think topic is going off topic. But since it is so...
I never used Mac. Windows all the way. And nobody ever has any problems until they really do and then it is too late. From personal experience... BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP. Regardless of Windows or Mac, when $hit hits the fan. The win vs. Mac will never get old but I think that everyone can agree on BACKUP.

I am not planning on purchasing Sigma.

And I am not planning on upgrading my T1i anytime soon. One day yes but for now, just not happening. But yes, most definitely will have to watch out for that WHEN I eventually decide to do so.

No can't do that either here (renting). We do not have that. Like I said, this is Bosnia. Nothing is that simple here.
It is fine. From what I could read online, just about everyone was happy with it and would recommend it. Ill be able to give my share of feedback in 2-3 months as well. Hopefully it will be nothing but positive.

@MarcvsTvllivs
To be honest with you, I am going for a new lens (bought in store with warranty). Here in Bosnia, $1000 is not a small amount of money (2 average salaries). This is the biggest reason why I refuse to buy even new that was previously owned by someone. It might be stupid for some, but for this money I want to have at least limited warranty (with my luck, I wouldn't be surprised if it had some manufacturing problem). Other than this, I would agree completely with you.

@Rick D
I am almost set on it, however, me waiting until August is probably out of the question. First, I am leaving for a vacation end of July / beginning of august and would love to have lens by then. Second, and more important, is again, where I live. The same lens would no be here for at least couple more months (at best) and the old lens would not drop that much in price.

Like I said in the first post, I am almost set on buying this one. I guess this is just the last "approval" from people that have actually used the lens.
Thank you both

@qwerty

Yes that was my other option. I know the lens is adequate for microstock. Like you said, it is L series lens and should do fine. I wanted only to see other opinions (mostly from people using it). If I had an options of renting lens here I would most definitely rent the two mentioned and see which suits me better but sadly I don't.

Again ,thank you for the feedback
