Selling Stock Direct / Re: editorial photos but commercial use

Do the opposite of the Nike tag line: Just DON'T do it.  It's the safest way.

I also think the OP missed how Alamy has transitioned from more of a mid stock company to micro stock.  What has changed are royalties....and how low they sell content for.they have gone down the toilet. What hasn't changed is the low sales volume. So looking at that combination alone gives you the high level "now and then" comparison.  They've taken commissions from 60% to 40% (less if through a distributor) and my guess is that they will come out with another adjustment to 30%. Why? Because they can and the industry proves it.

General Stock Discussion / Re: This month's sales
« on: October 20, 2021, 08:22 »
BAD month.  Stock down, Elements down, DP 1/2 normal, DT pathetic.  Only one up is Alamy...so far at $240. P5 is down 25%, too.  Just cyclical and I am in the trough.

Adobe Stock / Re: Bulk delete content from Adobe
« on: October 15, 2021, 07:56 »
Has anyone deleted thousands or hundreds of images from adobe stock at one time? Did you have to go through one by one to delete?

Also curious if agencies or those with larger catalogs had to do it this way also

So Mat just told you no, it cannot be done. No matter how many times you ask, it cannot be done.  Although, I think there is a way.  Close your account.
Same thing to you ddb...don't say anything if you don't know what you're talking about. The question is directed to people who know about the better options provided to larger agencies and contributors.

You are ignorant.
I was thinking the same about you.

You can think? Holy crap!!

More idiocy from DT this morning.  25 rejections for images in this series:

Children wearing costumes.

LOL that is simply stupid.

Pond5 / Re: Variable HD Prices Again???
« on: October 13, 2021, 20:36 »
I just noticed that the HD versions of some my 4k clips have various price ranges. I aways have the same price for 4k so the HD version will be half of it. Some are higher and some lower. Have P5 been changing prices again?

That happens to me all the time, some at asking price and others well below.  The negotiate with bigger clients for cheaper pricing nd we agree to that when we upload.  They also will lower your price to the lowest of other micros if your content is found there.  And sometimes you get more than your asking price based on negotiated rates and, I assume, how the image is used.

Thats not what I am saying. I am aware of this. The HD footage should be set at half of the 4k clip when you edit them. But when I looked at some clips for sale recently, the normal selling price is different and has changed. Has this happened to anyone else. Unless you go into the edit tab on the Upload tab you will not see the HD price.

Yes, they change your pricing. If you price something at $79 and it is priced at $59 elsewhere, they will change your prices. Its happened to a lot of my footage.  However, if your pricing on P5 is as low as anywhere else, then I dont have an answer, but itsmworth writing them to find out.

This thread is starting to show all that was wrong with the SS forums.
People running other people and organizations down for no purpose other than to
build themselves up.
If the SS refugees are coming here to repeat what they did on SS forums then
I'm outta here.
The SS forums are dead and gone. Leave them that way.
It's a good time to start out on a positive note and go on from there.

%100 Agree With This

Then why is your username still active? I will say, the one big difference here is that you don't have an administrator censoring your posts like over at SS.  You can pretty much say what you want, but don't expect some posts to go unchallenged. And every forum, this one, a drone forum, etc. all have varying personalities and the vast majority of people react to posts in different ways. You will not get a forum where everyone agrees with you and it's kumbaya all day long.  If you don't like the human element of a forum you are free to leave, but nobody is going to silence you like over at SS unless you cross the line with forum rules, which are pretty lax here.

Calm down old fella. I was kind of joking and having a bit of fun in my post above playing on the description that we are refugees which is quite funny in itself.

This forum has its own defectors.  There used to be some really good artists here and they have since left, some of whom got in heated arguments, accusations flung at them, etc.  Lisa FX is a perfect example.  I had a couple of private message exchanges with her and she was/is quite a nice person. But she got crapped on here and left.  It happens.

Alamy.com / Re: this license
« on: October 10, 2021, 16:31 »
Shutterstock (and other sites) have broader license that sell for 22 cents, so it's not clear what "too low" means given the current market.

Alamy's days as a higher end, RM and RF agency are long behind it and they're selling microstock-priced licenses these days. I haven't had anything that low there, but I know I've heard others complain of this type of under $1 license, so it's not unprecedented.

I've had several "under a buck" sales.  Very hard pill to swallow with such strong, broad licenses.  I still get 3-5 decent sales a month ($25-$150 per sale) but that is mixed with cheap-seat sales as well.  I have about 5k images there.

Not a surprise. They have not listened or responded to the contributers for a long time. They were regarded as a pain, who might want to challenge their perceived wisdom. Who wants to listen to the truth when you are trying to rule the world. It's comparable to a country banning independent media.

They have a plan, believe me.  Contributors will see 5 cent royalties, then penny royalties and fraction royalties replacing the 10 cent royalties that used to be 38 cent royalties. I'm not talking about the one-offs that happen now. I am stating outright that the volume downloads, like we used to see with the 38 cent ones will evolve into fractions of a penny.  This last major move was only step one.  They will let the dust settle, then drop another bomb.

Contributors: Provide millions of images to low paying sites.

Also Contributors: The problem is that for some reason low paying sites have millions of images so theres no point trying to improve our lot by stopping uploading to low paying sites.

 ::)

Indeed, we are our own worst enemy.  But I think there are a couple of dynamics in play for those who upload continuously. 1. They rely heavily or solely on that income and cannot just easily walk away and 2. many contributors shoot average assets or low commercial value work and MS is a good platform for that kind of content.  Honestly, I liked the way Istock used to really scrutinize images and limit how many could be uploaded each week.  It was harder for LCV to get by the reviewers and it kept the collection a bit cleaner.  But those days are gone and here we are.

165
Now it hit me too.  Reason: "Image may be inappropriate for stock"

What exactly is Dreamstime's plan here? Remove all photos in the database related to certain everyday topics so their customers have to go somewhere else if they need photos of these topics?  :o

I got another one today. Seems like they are doing it is batches Or maybe it was an end-of-the-month quota.

Same here. Ones that sell are being removed. My last one was a piggy bank looking at a noose.  That sold fairly frequently.  Have no idea what WOKE or virtue signaling message that brings to qualify for removal.  Violence? S_H_I_T, it's reality in an inferential context.

Happened to me on SS and other sites, the client sometimes need to know 100% that this is the right location (readers trust).

I had that asked, looked at the image and never responded.  The next thing I know is that the buyer contacted me directly and I sold the image to them for $450.

If you don't mind I'd love to hear the response here when/if you get one.
Sure, as soon as I get a reply I will let you know :)
I just got a reply from the customer support:

[Translated with  deepL.com]
I have been informed that the program is still in the development stage. Therefore, it is not yet active with customers.
The achieved sales from this program, as well as the status of the participant of this program, will also be seen later in the account. We will inform you additionally as soon as we know more.

Good to know, you can see the status and the sales of the program in your account settings, as soon as it is online.

Thank you very much for sharing your response. For some reason for this month I can see on the Stats page a 1 in the revenue share row at the bottom, and a small amount in there as well. Maybe testing? Not sure.

So, it sounds like they wanted people to commit to it without any details.  Sign the dotted line and we'll tell you later what your prize is!!

Shutterstock.com / Re: Contributor forum deceased?
« on: September 22, 2021, 09:20 »
the sad part is that we are severely censored on the forum. Say anything they don't like any your banished!

I was banished 11 years ago for 6 months. I am still banished.  If you rightfully call anyone out or identify clear "do as I say, not as I do" you will get warned and then banned.  SS could have been the MS company to remain contributor friendly and find ways to better partner with us, but once they went public, game over.  We are a provider of commodity as very few assets are "unique" enough to make any difference when they are buried in piles of pot images, or whatever.

170
What would not be good, for contributors anyway, is for their income to go up without ours also going up by a similar percentage.

Hmmmm. Gotta wonder what the odds of that might be. Pretty high, mesuspects.

it won't go up. They are scrambling to keep finding new ways each year to keep shareholders and Wall Street happy.  Eventually the milk will run dry. There's only so much juice to the squeeze.  I can see them going down the route that for every 10 images sold you'll get a nickel.  And people will upload for that.

Nope. no email to me in the last several weeks. Just checked all my folders.

Thanks Uncle Pete :) the revenue share model seems to be the way for agencies going forward.

"
Thanks for being part of our community!
At Depositphotos, were always on the lookout to create new opportunities for our contributors. For this reason, we are introducing a Special Program in response to the increased demand for new plans on licensed content.

Under the new program, your earnings will be based on the Revenue Share model. This means that 40% of net revenue will be allocated among contributors whose files have been downloaded within the new plan.

To receive income under the new program for contributors, confirm your membership by clicking the button below.

"
Just added for the last missing words.  :)

I'm not a member but they keep writing to me. I changed my mind and now upload to DP through Wirestock.

There would be a lot more happy contributors, although I have not been invited to the program.

"Flex subscriptions and credits are subject to some limitations. Monthly credit allotments do not roll over into the following month and will expire if not used. Any downloads made with credits are non-refundable."

And since unused credits expire each month, SS is sure to make a killing rather than revenue share with contributors.

Pond5 / Re: So has anybody sold any images on Pond5?
« on: September 10, 2021, 08:11 »
I sell about one a month.  The return is nice @ 50%. Some of my stuff is specialized and I net $20 of the $40 gross sale.  I price my other images lower, between $7 and $20. I still support P5 and upload images there even though sales volume is dang low.  They are not my priority when I have a set of images but when I find the time, I'll have a hot tea and upload them.
