General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy review: the highest comissions in industry« on: October 27, 2021, 08:19 »
I also think the OP missed how Alamy has transitioned from more of a mid stock company to micro stock. What has changed are royalties....and how low they sell content for.they have gone down the toilet. What hasn't changed is the low sales volume. So looking at that combination alone gives you the high level "now and then" comparison. They've taken commissions from 60% to 40% (less if through a distributor) and my guess is that they will come out with another adjustment to 30%. Why? Because they can and the industry proves it.

General Stock Discussion / Re: This month's sales« on: October 20, 2021, 08:22 »
BAD month. Stock down, Elements down, DP 1/2 normal, DT pathetic. Only one up is Alamy...so far at $240. P5 is down 25%, too. Just cyclical and I am in the trough.

Pond5 / Re: Variable HD Prices Again???« on: October 13, 2021, 20:36 »I just noticed that the HD versions of some my 4k clips have various price ranges. I aways have the same price for 4k so the HD version will be half of it. Some are higher and some lower. Have P5 been changing prices again? Yes, they change your pricing. If you price something at $79 and it is priced at $59 elsewhere, they will change your prices. Its happened to a lot of my footage. However, if your pricing on P5 is as low as anywhere else, then I dont have an answer, but itsmworth writing them to find out. 159
Shutterstock.com / Re: Murdered Shutterstock Forum Refugee Thread« on: October 11, 2021, 07:48 »This thread is starting to show all that was wrong with the SS forums. Then why is your username still active? I will say, the one big difference here is that you don't have an administrator censoring your posts like over at SS. You can pretty much say what you want, but don't expect some posts to go unchallenged. And every forum, this one, a drone forum, etc. all have varying personalities and the vast majority of people react to posts in different ways. You will not get a forum where everyone agrees with you and it's kumbaya all day long. If you don't like the human element of a forum you are free to leave, but nobody is going to silence you like over at SS unless you cross the line with forum rules, which are pretty lax here. 160

This forum has its own defectors. There used to be some really good artists here and they have since left, some of whom got in heated arguments, accusations flung at them, etc. Lisa FX is a perfect example. I had a couple of private message exchanges with her and she was/is quite a nice person. But she got crapped on here and left. It happens. 161

I aways have the same price for 4k so the HD version will be half of it. Some are higher and some lower. Have P5 been changing prices again? That happens to me all the time, some at asking price and others well below. The negotiate with bigger clients for cheaper pricing nd we agree to that when we upload. They also will lower your price to the lowest of other micros if your content is found there. And sometimes you get more than your asking price based on negotiated rates and, I assume, how the image is used. 162
Alamy.com / Re: this license« on: October 10, 2021, 16:31 »Shutterstock (and other sites) have broader license that sell for 22 cents, so it's not clear what "too low" means given the current market. I've had several "under a buck" sales. Very hard pill to swallow with such strong, broad licenses. I still get 3-5 decent sales a month ($25-$150 per sale) but that is mixed with cheap-seat sales as well. I have about 5k images there. 163
Shutterstock.com / Re: Murdered Shutterstock Forum Refugee Thread« on: October 08, 2021, 07:05 »Not a surprise. They have not listened or responded to the contributers for a long time. They were regarded as a pain, who might want to challenge their perceived wisdom. Who wants to listen to the truth when you are trying to rule the world. It's comparable to a country banning independent media. They have a plan, believe me. Contributors will see 5 cent royalties, then penny royalties and fraction royalties replacing the 10 cent royalties that used to be 38 cent royalties. I'm not talking about the one-offs that happen now. I am stating outright that the volume downloads, like we used to see with the 38 cent ones will evolve into fractions of a penny. This last major move was only step one. They will let the dust settle, then drop another bomb. 164
General - Top Sites / Re: Does it help your sales when ditching the dime royalty agencies?« on: October 01, 2021, 07:21 »
Indeed, we are our own worst enemy. But I think there are a couple of dynamics in play for those who upload continuously. 1. They rely heavily or solely on that income and cannot just easily walk away and 2. many contributors shoot average assets or low commercial value work and MS is a good platform for that kind of content. Honestly, I liked the way Istock used to really scrutinize images and limit how many could be uploaded each week. It was harder for LCV to get by the reviewers and it kept the collection a bit cleaner. But those days are gone and here we are. 165

Shutterstock.com / Re: Contributor forum deceased?« on: September 22, 2021, 09:20 »the sad part is that we are severely censored on the forum. Say anything they don't like any your banished! I was banished 11 years ago for 6 months. I am still banished. If you rightfully call anyone out or identify clear "do as I say, not as I do" you will get warned and then banned. SS could have been the MS company to remain contributor friendly and find ways to better partner with us, but once they went public, game over. We are a provider of commodity as very few assets are "unique" enough to make any difference when they are buried in piles of pot images, or whatever. 170
Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock announces Flex Premium - everything for one flat fee« on: September 21, 2021, 07:04 »What would not be good, for contributors anyway, is for their income to go up without ours also going up by a similar percentage. it won't go up. They are scrambling to keep finding new ways each year to keep shareholders and Wall Street happy. Eventually the milk will run dry. There's only so much juice to the squeeze. I can see them going down the route that for every 10 images sold you'll get a nickel. And people will upload for that. 171

"Flex subscriptions and credits are subject to some limitations. Monthly credit allotments do not roll over into the following month and will expire if not used. Any downloads made with credits are non-refundable."
And since unused credits expire each month, SS is sure to make a killing rather than revenue share with contributors. 174

Pond5 / Re: So has anybody sold any images on Pond5?« on: September 10, 2021, 08:11 »
I sell about one a month. The return is nice @ 50%. Some of my stuff is specialized and I net $20 of the $40 gross sale. I price my other images lower, between $7 and $20. I still support P5 and upload images there even though sales volume is dang low. They are not my priority when I have a set of images but when I find the time, I'll have a hot tea and upload them.
