How can I cancel my subscription so it doesn't renew after a year? When I paid my first annual subscription it said in the terms and conditions that you can cancel your yearly membership fee at any time, but now I can't find where to do that. Do I have to close my credit card because of this? I hate these kinds of fees, which are secretly renewed after a year.

https://fineartamerica.com/controlpanel/premiumfeatures.html

Remove your CC number, they won't renew.

Ha Ha, reply from FAA support? It's like spotting Bigfoot. People have reported that, but mostly unconfirmed.

Once you have a valid credit card in FAA you cannot remove it. You are handcuffed. Since emailing support is useless, you need to call your credit card company to stop the charges.  They really are a scumbag company to set up their payment that way.  Why not just have a toggle to turn on and off your renewal? They do not give you that choice, rather they force you to jump through hoops to avoid or reverse a payment if you choose to skip the Premium membership.  By the way, Premium membership does not get you any kind of placement consideration. It merely lets you upload as many pics as you want, along with some other useless features they Market as "PREMIUM".

Shutterstock.com / Re: Banned by Shutterstock?

I was banned for 6-months, and here I am 13 years later still banned.  Could care less.

Just had 0$ sale on the sidebar, in sales it's 0.10, I get what?

.03 cents.  These are their distributor sales that you have to opt out of, but you can only opt out in April of each year.

204
Yep, 2 sales at 10c, no commission to me.

Great.

And Contributor support seems to have been replaced with a bot sending a standard email to whatever question you might ask....

Wonderful.

You do have a commission (royalty) of .03 cents.  30%. Now see if that even buys you a single peanut.

The revenue share model will be the new normal in microstock. Another agency jumping on the subscription bandwagon and untransparent revenue models.

At least there is an opt-out for the contributors. But I think it won't be long before this program is going to be implemented agency-wide for all contributors (with no opt-out, except delete your portfolio).

I am in the revenue share with Envanto, Elements, and that particular revenue share model is healthy. The difference is they are VERY picky about what gets selected, unlike DP who is using "unsold" or "low sell" images.

How is it healthy exactly? It's just a way to devalue content. In Envato's case, the high-quality images will be selected, which seems to me is detrimental for credit sales and higher commissions that quality content deserves.
And because it's all thrown into some revenue pool (of unknown size) which makes it all very untransparent.

It's healthy for me because I went from $50 a month with PD to ~6.5X a month with a fraction of the images.  They reduced my port from 3k images to about 500, yet my monthly income has increased significantly.

So how does it work? Do you only find out what was sold at the end of the month, iStock style, or less often?

THAT'S the question for which I'd like an answer. Envato has a contributor dash but you can't see items that sell in real time, only later after they calculate.  So squishy details.

I got it too, very vague on details.

It says
"If youre happy with our selection, then no further action is needed. If you would like to add or delete files, please do so within 7 days of receiving this email."

but no explanation on how to do any of that.

Or why? What is the actual incentive to upload more or, what is the dis-incentive that would prompt me to delete them all?  And we need to learn what this is within 7 days or make a blind decision.  Rarely are these moves for the good of the contributor, so that's probably my answer right there.

Same here.  Wonder if they are trying to do something similar to Elements.

I have this one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1301198-REG/really_right_stuff_cb_ys_qr_pkg_long_lens_y_support_package.html. But in this form it's not available. I would email Really Right Stuff.  I'm sure they still carry a newer version.

They sell the Y support https://www.reallyrightstuff.com/CB-YS-Long-Lens-Support. So all you need are the other plates for your camera that this mounts to.

Geeze.

If you go into your earnings page, there are sales for December 2020.  For some reason they are not reporting on the graph.  Mine is a whopping 7 bucks.

The bigger questions is WHY would they do this?

The only thing he will try to improve is his bank account. He has been very clear about that with his actions.

« on: November 23, 2020, 08:09 »
Just often enough to keep me there.

Their opaque methods of reporting earnings galls me, but, once I sort out what they actually are, it's decent.

Agree with this. My sales trickle in at $5-20 then I get the occasional $100-$200 sales.  The last few months have been fairly good where I have $250-$500 a month before my cut.  AMAZINGLY....I had a video sale there last month for 50 some odd dollars.  I have some of my clips there before they stopped accepting vids.  I think they are doing something to get back into video, but not sure what that is.  But I'd hardly consider one video sale in four years a winning site for that kind of asset.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stolen content available for sale

Regardless of the race, ethnicity, religion, location, gender or sexual preference of the thief, Shutterstock should operate under a zero tolerance policy on any account that uploads even one clip/image that is not theirs legally to upload. Flat out. The moment Shutterstock becomes aware that a specific account is run by a thief, and chooses to ignore it, they become accessories to the crime and under any real legal scrutiny would be held at least partially responsible for any losses. Most likely, Shutterstock realizes that they get to keep 100% of sales from these accounts if left to sell and then conveniently removed before anything gets paid out. Making their behavior appear to be intentionally criminal.

Well stated, Daryl.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime Customer refunds

I'm getting a few Dreamstime "customer refund" emails lately. Anyone else? Is this some form of image abuse?

Yes, and my response would be to say, thanks. That is 2 months worth of sales!

Please, all stock agencies, stop doing stupid experiments.

With 70,000 free premium photos, any topic is covered.

Actually this isn't true, I've had a look and a few of my niche areas aren't covered so that's a relief.

Come on. Use simple 80/20 thinking.  Many sellable themes are covered in the free section.  Great for you that your niche is not impacted, but for the lion's share of contributors their subject matter is covered for FREE.

219
Jpeg only, wonder how it compares to a raw file post processed to same end result.

I have shot low light raw in my M2P and it is horrible.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stock Photography Future
« on: September 12, 2020, 08:18 »
Nothing earth shattering about that piece.  I think anyone who has been in the biz for a while knows the themes very well.  The one thing he states is the "internet scams" and he is right. I still see all these ads to make a good income from photography.  "We are better than Fine Art America" gallery sites, "we have an un-discovered photography niche", etc. They are really laughable and Jim is right in that the only ones who will make any money are those agencies who exploit photographers.

"Licenses issued by Playstock for any of your Content that is later removed by yourself will remain in full force and effect in perpetuity."

Yea, NO!!

Well, to be fair, thats true of all agencies.

Mainly true. Motion Elements is two Years. I just completed my two years post account closing and was finally able to delete my already sold vids that were locked for that two years.

Doesn't it mean that buyers who bought a license, will keep that license even if you remove your videos from the platform? Cause that's pretty obvious and fair. You cannot revoke a license a customer paid for.

I am merely relaying you the terms set forth by ME. Those were the terms.  I deleted my content in compliance with the terms.

Sorry for the confusion, I was talking about the PlayStock term you mentioned; my point is, if PlayStock issues a license to a customer for your video, and you later remove your video, then the purchased license should still remain valid for the customer.

Based on their terms, you are spot on.

"Any user who fails to provide accurate and sufficient information required for the Company to deliver royalties from their Content may not be compensated even if their Content has been sold, and the amount that has not been issued will be returned to the Company during year-end adjustments."

Yea, NO!!

"Playstock shall have the right to retain any unissued royalties and/or other compensation when you terminate your account." I would rethink this. It's a bad, unfair message sent to contributors.

And why the boycott? I have about 100 photos there, I sometimes get royalties. There have never been any problems.

Okay, you obviously have not been following what is going on at SS. Or dont care that they are ripping you off. Search this forum.
