General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy - is it worth it?
« on: August 29, 2019, 09:07 »
Are there any thoughts about raising the number of allowed characters to captions (not in live news) from 150 to 200? That would help in a more detailed description. It would be better Alamy allows that option. After all, not all would make use of it. Sometimes I find the 150 characters not enough. This now might force me to ommit letters to fit a sentence, which naturally does not look proficient.

Off Topic / Re: Which compact camera to buy?
« on: August 25, 2019, 03:32 »
Why not just put a pin in Google Maps at your iPhone?
This shows the coordinates and you don't have to use roaming data for that.
Then, you could print screen it but it might just be easier to take a photo with your camera,
right after the taken pick of the unknown place you are.
True, you will have to manually write a long number again but if you save it with a star on Google maps when you are there,
you just return home, open the maps and see where you have been.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Contributing to Artgrid?
« on: August 21, 2019, 02:57 »
At their page, If you procced with applying for being a contributor it says on "things to check before we start" that you have to tick "None of this footage is under exclusivity in another platform". This probably means they accept non-excluive clips but there is still no mention on percentage of earnings, based on clips and resolution.
There is only a mention about the subscription price a cutomer has to pay, depending on resolution.

I am miles away from the 25.000 downloads but I have still sent the email with my small illustrative port.
What Adobe Stock could do, aside illustrative editorials, is accept a limited per month number of editorial photos and videos until they shape an initial opinion. This could also discourage all contributors from uploading every single asset we have, since we would have to think twice about our content to send. It is not difficult to understand both sides lose earnings from not being able to do that. Such a move could make Adobe lower the risk they are probably trying to weigh prior to enabling editorial uploads.

New Sites - General / Re: Wemark - Are they still alive?
« on: July 11, 2019, 07:22 »
That is the only real thing we earned with this virtual currency thing: actually ... nothing! Now, let's see how many of us will believe the promises of the next new agency to emerge! I can already imagine we will see the comments of those who were sceptical about them coming below!

The same for me. Two completed months without Pond 5 sales, only views. At the same time at Shutterstock i get monthly video sales. Chronologically, it coincides with the time I started uploading to Pond 5 exclusive also, put i paused exclusive uploads there, as i also saw no sales. I used to earn more in Pond 5 than Shutterstock in videos (even had enhanced video sales in Pond 5, giving me good return) but this is now reversed, only leaning towards Shutterstock.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock FTP login being declined
« on: July 09, 2019, 04:37 »
After trying numerous times, I managed to upload some videos a couple of hours ago, but now I am unable to connect from Greece. Last post on the Shutterstock forums about the matter seems to be updated on Sunday, so nothing new from there also.

This seemed to be one of your relaxing pieces, always in my personal opininon! Wathing it, I thought (and hope) you could get stock sales in wide categories uses: travel blogs, TV, documentaries, or even films. Maybe you could inform us in the future months to come if such content sells more! Just interested! No, I do not do aerials or own a drone!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Any sales at Picfair?
« on: July 01, 2019, 11:00 »
I decided to take the time and honestly respond to the survey.
It could not be completed, it did not work.
I email them and they know corrected.
What is not "corrected" is that i still have zero sales there.
828 pics, 26.000 views, 13 starred images.

General Stock Discussion / Re: DJI Osmo Pocket
« on: May 19, 2019, 11:11 »
I do not own the camera but, when it came out, some users and the DJI forum offered original video files to download and evaluate.
During daylight, the stabilisation was very convincing handheld, if you want to pan and move.
If you want to walk, steps motion is not eliminated, you can still see and imagine someone is walking up and down.
It also does easy and nice time-lapses in panning, if you leave it on a tripod stand.
What I did not like is that, if you inspect the file at 100 % frame size on a PC monitor (not on a 4K TV that optimizes video) there is a visible noise in the shadows.
I cannot judge if this is more or less than a GoPro 7 records when in 4K, or my Samsung S10 (which mobile I find having less noise at 60 than 30 fps in 4K) but I would not like to spend my time trying to denoise 4K material or sacrifice export to HD to avoid noise. I just beleive one mostly buys that DJI for handheld panning shots.
If someone found a forum or a review with original new model DJI Osmo Action video links to download, please post, as it would be interesting to evaluate how these at 100 Mbps compare to GoPro Hero 7, since many already comment they do not like the crop the new Osmo Action does at 4K, to compensate for smoother than GoPro stabilisation.

The volume of the music is far too high. I had to stop looking after two minutes because of the variations in the volume level at the limit of what is acceptable (not really in the LUFS standards).
It really gives the impression that Adobe can't afford it.... It's actually counterproductive in the end.

[/quote]

I was just about to comment the same: You fail to focus on the video content when you hear such volume fluctuations.
One one hand we use Adobe products, with latest Premiere advertising the ease of audio match levels in vocals for example and on the other hand someone exposes Mat, diminishing his effort. I mean, I work as a video editor in broadcast TV and no matter the rush, I always look down right in Premiere to check sound volume when I mix (usually 4) differerent tracks.
Here someone leaves us with the feeling that never bothered to look, or listen, to the final video prior to export. These are the kind of mistakes that give room to negative comments.

87
That must finally happen.
If we have a still video, with not much action, we are usually ok.
But imagine when we for example have a revealing shot and you start from a wall to move to the right!
You end up with an empty looking frame! Who is going to ever click that preview?

Hi georgep7!
You mean these?
Let's see if younger ones know what a BETACAM SP is! This one is actually broken!

(Not going to be used for stock anyway!)

They also always avoided to answer all my questions, making communication problematic. In the past I had to ask again and again, even numbering questions, but they just responded what they wanted. Regardless If their answers would satisfy me or not, they just seemed to say what they wanted, like one talks and the other never listens but only waits to speak his part. That was not good communication. They also asked me to update my tax info and that took them months to do. Was that their way of thinking I would be upset and give up earlier, who knows? They also said they would let me know if they deleted my assets but never wrote back. Even now, at the end, that is bad communication. Instead, without me being informed, I am logged out and can't enter my account. They also never offered any suggestions for sales increase and when I asked how do they judge unique or similar clips or quality, they never reponded. I should add here that I work as a professional video editor in Broadcast TV for more than 25 years, from the era of Betacam, when we just dropped U-Matic and then started using Betacam tapes with external video vectorscopes and jogs on Sony BVW or PVW videos, so you guess that at least my clips were Broadcast safe! At least on some local or European events my clips were not widely offered on stotck agencies, yet they failed to sell by the numbers on them, plus living in Greece, I had a 30 % tax deduction, without them ever providing details about the country of sales. I had to insist for months that they wrongly did that on my photo sales and at the end they accepted it.

They informed me they would close my account in a month, with a mention they would help me with suggestions to avoid that.
Since I had zero sales for months, I responded they should not wait and get over with it immediatelly!
That was the first time they acted fast and they deleted all my assets in a couple of days, although I am still waiting for the relative email to confirm that!
Now, as I was telling other stock friends, I feel as relieved as if I was going to break up with a girlfriend I knew I was never going to be forever with but was just postponing for a last night with her, to ... kiss her goodbye!

General Stock Discussion / Re: pond5 sales plummet to $0?
« on: April 22, 2019, 09:33 »
Well, now that you mention it, I did respond on a follow up e-mail that I was happy about the fast response time but not happy with the answer, as to me it did not give a specific response to all my questions! I was polite so I hope it's not that! I guess it's always better to blame the others! We are never wrong! That's I think when you know you are crazy! When you always think all the others are wrong and only you are right!

I second that emotion wih zero sales. I am also exclusive but for the first time I had 0 sales in consecutive 30 days at my non exclusive account, despite having larger than usual views.

If you sign in, terms state you need to accept you grant them access to give your assets for free for promotional reasons. Does this mean the monthly freebies they distribute or other promos we do not know about? Also has someone understood the price range contributors will earn from photos?

Pond5 / Re: Exclusive contributors - price strategy
« on: April 05, 2019, 07:21 »
I have started seeing my first accepted exclusive clips online at Pond 5. For now I only upload some clips that are with less offer or no offer to other agencies, as of the time of the upload, editorial or commercial. That is just my interpretation of exclusivity. Pond 5 exclusive for me is not anoher chance to upload widely offered material at a higher price. Being a broadcast video editor at my day job, I also pay great care to all of my stock clips, keeping broadcast safe requirements and all the correction or denoise details i can do to improve. That is not the same as uploading straight out of the camera, despite the different custom profiles I use for day or night. Therefore, I price them higher than the industry standard, but still lower than other exlusive video libraries that range 4K clips from 300 to 500 $. Such a "unique" clip might sell never or once and should be paid accordingly. I have no illusions of repetitive sales on such ones. I also have no intention of uploading another clip of the Eiffel Tower that are already available in thousands and price it higher. That for me is not unique and I doubt it will justify the meaning of exclusive. Why should someone pay higher for that if he can find the same content at another agency? A customer might (we will see what happens in the near exclusive future) be willing to pay higher for a less offered, well executed exclusive clip. I will still upload my non exclusive ones only to agencies that do not pay cents for that.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Pond5 "Good News"!
« on: March 23, 2019, 04:33 »
What would be a suggested 4K price tag for an exclusive video? We should look it from the buyer's prespective. If a customer gives 170 to 200 for non exclusive to the other big ones, should a Pond 5 4K exclusive video be priced for example no less than 220, or maybe more? That should mean at least 132 cut for us creators, in a regular, not enhanced sale. (if the video sells, at least once!)

If we create a new exclusive account, will we still be able to upload new, non similar files to Pond 5 or other agencies?
I guess we could as the new account will be different to the old one, or not?

Update: I just received an email, cheked on my PayPal account and I can confirm I just got paid by Shutterstock.
At the end, all is good, in accordance to the paid by the 15th promise.
I still just wished we had some info for that in advance.

Just a fast question to the ones above that rushed to be offensive:
Suppose that you have a small company that sells clothes to a big chain on a high fashion street.
They sell your clothes and you have a written contract they pay you in check 30 days later.
Time passes, you phone the big profitable clothes chain and they say: ok, you will be paid soon!
Would you still have the same response?
Then we could come and tell you: Why are you crying, hush, you will get your money sometime!

Next time, read carefully the posts: No one said he has a fear of not getting paid.
They all just wish to know when and what happened.
So keep the witty comments to your shop and let the others respond in a polite way, as they do!

I have sent an e-mail to Shutterstock and recieved a fast response from one of the exper user contributors that answered. I had to close the converssation as he could not provide any details apart from what I have already written and returned today with a new question to Shutterstock, asking about an answer including a reason for the delay and a specific date of payment. I am not worried as to if I am paid, I just do not wish the payment be transfered to the next month's cycle for a mistake I do not know and did not make.

I also did not get paid up to today March 14th. (first time it happens)
I was told I am not alone and I should be patient and wait.
Well, I am both but that still does not give a specific date of payment.
It would be better if us affected got a clear answer.
