« on: March 11, 2020, 05:38 »
You've still got the $0.60 ones to look forward to then!
;D ;D

Never had 0.6, but did have few 1.5$ sales. And every time it happend i immediately wrote compalainment to SS to opt-out of any kind of "programs". To which they reply that it is a low-res-web type of sale.  To which i reply that i will stop uploading if this happens again.

Again, had 2-3 of these sales only.

lucky you, I have about 20 sales per month with 1.5$.  >:(

Wow, thats a lot! Do you write to them?

Waste of time... they ignore everything. Even the inappropriate rejections... SS doesn't care about us.

I get A LOT of those rejections. Example i upload 9 video clips, they reject all of them. I upload 2 by 2, they accept... So naive...

I wasn't aware that resellers had any reason to contact contributors directly.  What did she want?

I wasn't also, but there is the mail. She asked for my phone number to briefly speak with me...

Anyone ever got this kind of email?

I' ve got e-mail today from a lady who claims to be SS reseller. Heard about this, but i'm not really sure how they function.

Any information is very much appreciated.

Pond5 / Re: Pricing multi agency appearing clips
« on: February 26, 2020, 15:05 »
Since they cut our share from 50% to 40% i raised my prices to 99$/199$ (instead of 79/179) to try to get even. Sales are pretty much the same (lowered even on 79/179), but then i am not a constant uploader.

I am now trying 79/179 with some files, and i'll see how that goes.
No way i am going to sell my footage for peanuts.

« on: February 07, 2020, 13:48 »
I do believe that the algorithm is learning how to review our footage.

A lot of Noise / Artifacts / Pixelation / Posterization rejections last few weeks. But when i re-upload, and re-submit same footage, it gets accepted with no problem...

P5 on the other hand eats everything, same as Adobe.

34
Very few sales. Deleted.

Pond5 / Re: What is your download/views ratio on Pond5?
« on: February 04, 2020, 09:36 »
25 for full hd, 50 for 4k.

That's the real industry problem..people tbat sell for pennies...i wonder if you sell the same clips on ss or adobe at 79/179$...
Did I ask for your opinion on my pricing?

Yes you did ask, because prices like those are lowballing entire industry. Especially if the content is good or great. If you are happy with 10$ of your share, i am not :)

Pond5 have gone from one of the top two footage agencies, to quickly becoming a third rate agency. Whoever is running the show there has failed miserably over the past year. They need to act fast before their agency is destroyed beyond repair.

I am not worried for them, they'll be fine, all of this makes the more profit. It is us on the thin line...

More out of curiosity than anything else, how do you know that?

I second this  :)

Out of his 18,000+ clips, only 206 have ever sold.  And of those 206, only one has sold more than 10 times.

If that is true impact is not that much actually. But he is not the only one. I came to this conclusion because my P5 sales dropped, and SS sales got better in past few months. P5 was crushing SS to a point where i thought to go exclusive at one point but fortunately backed up from that idea. Now SS is crushing P5.

Plus the fact that P5 is doing who knows what with their algorithms.

Here is one of the reasons our sales dropped. Self pricing seemed  like a nice idea  until industry lowballers came and ruined game for almost everybody:

https://www.pond5.com/artist/xackerz#1/2063

Came to his profile through P5 huge banner on home screen which says: Aerials under 25$

I price my aerials 199$ 4k / 99 FHD...

Thanks to people like this we are loosing money for the crumbs they get.

39
When P5 lowered our % I increased prices to fill in the difference. even before that sales dropped from steady 2-3-4 a month to barely 2 a month due to their playaround experimenting algorithms and what not.

No way i am lowering my prices and selling my content for pocket tips. It sales for prices i set or it doesn't i do not care. Other thing, which is VERY important is lowballing entire industry. When i see good content for 10-20$ 1080p and 20-40$ 4K i get really pissed, but no way i'm going down with my prices.

They had a great model, buyers and artist were happy and now......zzzzzzz

LOL.  Things change.

We have to be honest with ourselves. VB makes their money via the way ODesigns states. All along their goal was to have a pool of clips that solved for the needs of their customrers within their membership collection. Honestly, i knew deep down that this HAD to be their goal when I signed up.... the goal being to ween their customers off of paid material and support them with their owned collection.  It is working. While i enjoyed as high as $500 a month from them, I am now getting $30 ish bucks every 4-8 weeks. The ride, for me, is over with VB.

Nicely put.
It could be seen from begging. They bought off from a lot of contributors, generated their own pool, and sell subscriptions...

Im on SB for 2.5-3 years now with almost 500 video clips (not many i know). Have nice and steady sales with 1 clip every 2-4 months  :o

Worst platform. Stopped uploading. Not sure what to do. SS and P5 generate ok sales with same clips.

Pond5 / Re: 2.5 months no sale
« on: December 16, 2018, 04:53 »
how long you are you Pond5 contributors and how many video do you have online ?

I'm from 2015 and I have 4000 videos and I can't sell anymore more than 6/7 videos per month...

and you ?

I am also from 2015. with little over 500 vids, and have 1-3 sales per month.
Last 3 months strange thing. Same clip sold in 4k two months in a row, and again 3rd month in HD...
Before that 2.5 months with no sales, but i had a gap in uploading, and i think thats why the gap. Since i started uploading again sales came back.

I am ok with this Web resolution thing as long as i can control % and pricing:

"Can I set my own price for Web resolution?
The Web resolution price defaults to 20% of your 4K master price (or 40% of HD price if its a native HD file). You can adjust this percentage in your account preferences or on the clip edit item page."

On the other hand ShutterStock offers SD files since forever (as i know) without any chance of touching the price, and i don't see anything bad. Except that one 1.5$ sale (which i reported immediately, and asked to be opt out o any kind of promotion if im in it).

Just had first sale at 1.50$.
It is a nice drone shot of Italian vineyards and an old city on the top of the hill, in 4K... crazy... Wrote to SS right away, will see what kind of reply do i get.

https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-34596598

Maybe, if all video contributors had written to SS when this thread was started on the 29th of April, it didn't need to come to the point were it affected you too.

Maybe, but i don't think they'd listen. I wrote to them complaining, and asking to opt me out of any crappy program. They said i am not in any kind of program, and that those are just regular clip pack sales. We changed like 4-5 emails, with me pushing, and them giving me just this SS crap all the time.

I was also very happy to see growing trend over the months, until it just suddenly dropped/stopped.  I guess it will come back, but it is crappy that you depend on algorithm and not on your portfolio/work...

Hi!

Just wondering hows it going for other people. Before August i've had steady 2-4 sales per month. Since 08.2018. until now, there are 0 sales.
Anybody experiencing similar?
