Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock earnings March 16th 2019
« on: March 16, 2019, 10:16 »
Hi!

Quick question, anyone else has next to no sales today on Shutterstock?

Just wondering why this morning I only have 1 sale there when normally when I wake up I already have at least 30-40. And it's staying at 1 sale. Just wondering if it's a first of if it's a bug in the update of the earnings?

Thanks!

I have been contacted in the past for special licenses for their client (clips being part of a famous artist videoclip).

If Shutterstock wants to buy copyright off you for 1500$ USD my guess is that they negociated with their client a much higher pricing or a long term price payments. But you'll never the deal they struct, you can either counter offer with a higher price and maybe lose the opportunity, or accept the offer. I have sold many images copyright for 1000$ depending on the use, and most images will take 5 to 10 years to even make that amount, if it ever reaches it. Check your bestsellers lifetime earning and you'll get an idea, to me it sounds a good deal even if I know Shutterstock must be selling back to their client for 10 000$.

I'm I alone... are they really buying images and so they can rule the stock world without us ?
Story block asked me the same last year.
I never said yes, but they are talking about a decent amount of money now... 1500$ is a lot seriously !

Here is the message:
++++++++++++++++

Dear (my name)

I am happy to notify you that we are interested in buying all rights to image "123456whatever" in your portfolio on behalf of our client.

For this offer to proceed, I would like to know the following from you:

1. Are you interested in a full copyright transfer of this image to Shutterstock for (a minimum) of $1500.00 commission? (Client is looking at 1yr, 2yr, and indefinite exclusivity.  $1500 would be the least amount of the payout for 1 year)

2. Where else is the image available and for how long has it been available at those agencies? (If terms are finalized, the image and similars will need to be removed from all other agencies, including Shutterstock)

3. Are there similar images in addition to and that we need to be aware of? If yes, please explain where the similars are and how many exist total. This offer is time sensitive so please confirm whether or not you are interested in this offer as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yaymicro / Re: Yay Images - how to see contributor account?

0.025 (YAY Images)... Yes you read right, I received many sales at Yaymicro from their new Yayimages site... with ''Creative'' licenses sold for 2.5 cents... Wow! A new threshold in low commissions.

The email address is [email protected] which relates to the link in the email.

Seems a bit fishy to me, but equally if there's money to be had  :-\

Docusign.net is ligit, I think that if you reply to that email it will email the one who send it do you (if you got to www.docusign.net it brings you to the real docusign.com website which is legit). Doesn't seem to be a scam to me.

I just noticed that Vectorstock changed, they now offer a responsive website and show VERY LARGE images at 1500 x 1500 with a screenshot on my 4k screen. Also the image preview offer NO WATERMARK: see this image for example (not mine): https://www.vectorstock.com/royalty-free-vector/super-hero-bubble-tea-character-cartoon-vector-21279714 or preview: https://cdn5.vectorstock.com/i/1000x1000/97/14/super-hero-bubble-tea-character-cartoon-vector-21279714.jpg. First off for web anyone can steal this as 1500x1500 or 1000x1000 at high quality is more than sufficient. Secondly anyone with illustrator can convert it to vector in 3 clicks... Why would agencies do that? Am I the only one who thinks this is abusive?

I am seriously considering removing my portfolio from there.

All payment history on Canva is now wrong too.

On my side payment history is fine, just the Current Balance don't show the right number with the latest payment they made. I am still missing 600$ that did not get paid...

On my side I only got PART of the January payment... I got less than December, and around 600$ LESS than what I should have been paid for January.

When I check the balance to be paid, I get January amount + February amount... Something is off...

The numbers in this thread with regards to earnings and number of people doing it full time are way off.

sure they are much more...a lot of people eran net 5000..i doubt.
Well I don't think I am in the top 200 and make more than that profit. So there's that.

you make more than 5000 dollar net profit every month.ok.

strange i read you always complaining now you make more than 60k net..year. sure.
I make more than double that. Doesn't mean I have to like being shafted by the agencies.

Jonbull, continue complaining and blasting the ones who works hard and do a good liviing. Maybe if you'd spend half the time and energy I see you spending only in this post you would also get 6k+ per month. It does happen, took me 5 years to build but you can get there. Then you need to stay active and follow the market in order to maintain the revenue, but it's part of the job.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How was your April?
« on: May 01, 2017, 09:57 »
On my side the whole 2017 Shutterstock have dropped a lot, I seem to have 1500 to 2000 less sales than last years on Shutterstock. Good thing though, other sites compensates for this loss but I hope Shutterstock will pick up later this year, I have been enjoying the good sales there :)

87
I guess its time to switch to videos :D

EDIT: Wait, in video clips isnt property also protected, I see brands of cars, plates etc...
Or he submit it as editorial?

Pond 5 largely overlooks property from what I have seen, model/property release is not enforced much by them.

So we have our single best day ever winner.

Hahaha yes definetly my best sale ever, not likely to happen twice though but I'll take it gladly! :)

Excellent! Merry Christmas to you...I foresee new camera equipment under your tree.  :)

Thank you very much hehe! :) I think this time I'll be reasonable and pay debts I have after investing in new equipment every year haha, my wife will like me for it... but maybe a small gift wouldn't hurt haha! :)

congrats, definitely a happy hols for you. i wonder what would have been the outcome
had ss took it into their own hands ;)
you strike it rich by being in the right place and the right time ..and of course, the right attorney.

I wonder also... My guess is that they might have fetched more or do nothing at all, but even had they gone through and fetched more, given the 20-30% we get as contributor, I doubt I would have had a better outcome.

The attorney costed a low 390$/h lol, but happily it was resolved in a timely manner :)... I am just happy that I don't have to pay the atorney's invoice without having had any results :)

Congratulations, Morphart. You made the right decisions and actions like yours help everyone who makes money from copyrights.

Thanks I appreciate. I still didn't receive the cheque but discussion is on. At least they acknowledge their mistake, I just hope they follow through :p

To close this thread, they did not negociate even a single cent and agreed to pay 25k$ USD for exclusive copyright and worldwide distribution. Either I made a fair price or they found it low enough not to negociate, but comparing to microstock earning, this is a good victory for copyrights, very happy about this ending just before Christmas. Attorney will cost me around 2k$ CDN but was well worth it.

If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, it can be worth it to defend your rights yourself with an attorney, even if it's just an official letter sent.

Happy Holidays! :)

What confuses me is why your attorney is not able to advise you as to the value of the case.  Does he specialize in IP cases?  He should be familiar with typical settlement and judgment values in his field.

Yes he has 15 years experience in IP cases, but first off he didn't know the exact amount, for now we'll ask the other party to stop using the image or make an offer to buy the license.

I was trying to get some sort of insight here as it has been useful in the past, but I guess without disclosing all the information and the importance and coverage of their campaign would be hard to do. Official attorney letter is leaving today, I'll keep posted about the result :p

Hi everyone, just writing to tell we received a call this morning and are settling for a 5 figures. The guess was right, the one who sold them the logo did not read the license terms and they are kind of embarrassed, so I want to keep this story low. Just wanted to share it as it's worth it to defend your copyrights even if it seems hard work or to have upfront fees for a lawyer.

BTW, I contacted Shutterstock about this after hiring the lawyer, and they answered 3 weeks after saying that since I already took the matter in hand they will not do anything unless I get no result, and I had to prove the license (image) was bought from their website. Not sure what the results would have been had I left it in their hands.

I am happy to see there are sometime good endings in Microstock stories :p

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock Vector upload Issues
« on: November 02, 2016, 14:37 »
Ok, i have some problems again.

Some images are processed and other not. But you have no way to know which ones are not processed so, after sending a big number or images it is a very hard work to check one by one, specially because you have no way to navegate on uploaded (but not sending) images, you can just see 40 of them.

Yes still the same issue, I have to hire a freelancer each time I submit large batches so he manually check each 50 images batch and track down the ones that has not been process. It's a lenghty process for vectors :(

I hope it goes well for you.  This sounds really outrageous!

I hope also, letters are sent and am waiting an answer from them in the next 2 weeks. Thanks for your support!

Well, looks like the OP has deleted that image? Guess it's mystery solved.
I noticed many difference from the 2 images when put one next to each other, one was more 3D, mine more flat, however with a portfolio of 20k images I don't want anything to do with a copyright verification from Shutterstock. Having an account suspended even for a few days while an investigation goes on =  a lot of revenue loss. I have all the source hand drawing done by my Illustrator but I still contacted him to make sure it was original which he confirmed it was and pointed out the differences. Thanks also for pointing out similar copies from other contributors will also have a look on those.

But this image:

http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-12220846/stock-photo-illustration-of-a-head-eagle.html

predates your one above no? I am just notice some similarities like the number of swooshes at the bottom, position of the sideways "v" by the mouth. Number of lines above the eye. Way the eye is cut off at the bottom. Way eye intersects line. Way the dark shape swooshes under the eye and so on.

Weird huh?

I'm not sure I understand your point? First the image people quotes in this thread is not related at all to the issue I am talking about. Second I don't see any similarities except that they are both eagle heads?

Please read the start of the thread if you didn't. :p
