Turn it into a positive thing instead!  youre out of it! out of having constantly to produce and feed the beast with images that hardly ever see the light of day!!...out and away from the frustration of building a portfolio only to have it destroyed by the next search-change and all your work was in vain! :D

Then why do you dwell in so much negativity and why don't you do the same positive thing, by removing your port from all microstock agencies?

I can bet you will be a much happier fellow, knowing yourself shielded from all those search changes.

 ;)

Bizarre???  check this out!  SS of course!

Sun.    18.99
Mon.    29.40
Tues.   29.34

let me guess today?...29.34??  hahaha!

If you want stable shots, get a motorized gimbal. Don't get caught up in the "is it worth it for microstock" nonsense way of thinking.

Also, if you get a roxant type stabilizer, you will use it for about 10 minutes, and then go straight to your computer to buy a real gimbal anyway. It's a waste of time and money if you're looking for professional looking shots.  ;)

Very true if you are just talking about video and how things work, this is the best answer. I was only addressing the money part. I should have said, if he's buying a gimbal, get a good real one, or don't waste the money on a toy that won't do the job.  :)

You're right.

Thats right! and for 500 you wont get much of a gimble, unfortunately!..I tried this one, DJI Ronin-MX 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer!!..bloody expensive and still I had problems, not at all as fluent and stable as I anticipated, I never bought it just tested it!....check out that site they have some interesting stuff!

Shutterstock *has* to be creating these images. They either have people on staff churning this stuff out to plump up the library or they're recruiting people to upload quick and dirty portfolios full of thousands of images that take seconds to generate.

There's just no way these ports are going through the usual review process.

Yes!  I am sure youre right there to some extent! Getty did the same towards the end of 90's, hired staff and photographers to churn out useless studio images by the millions!
I cant see any reviewer anywhere accepting thousands of images of weeds for example. Its an impossiblillity!

Hi, have just started attempting stock video with some files getting sold. I've currently been a heavy user of warp stabilizer and am planning to get something to help me get more stable shots of walking etc. The contenders are

1. Gimbal like the crane plus ($500), expensive but one of the best in getting smooth shots from my mobile and sony NEX6

2. A small roxant type stabilizer ($30), marginally better than handheld. Need a lot more time to stabilize and can get only level horizon shots. This is mainly to bide time if at all.

What would you all advise? Is the $500 investment worth it?

Thats a good reply!!....best to you! :)

Short term profit thinking, branding the average customer as stupid and not knowing anything about quality but still buying any old rubbish!  add to that they pile it up and accepting anything! Thats why they lowered the bar so that every weekend snapper with a phone could gain entry.

Sad thing that some pros and advanced amateurs still feed this beast uploading and thats the only thing that keeps this crap alive!

And now they flood facebook groups with questions like "what is RF?" and "where is the upload button in mobile app". People that don't know their way around mobile app and website UIs, let alone photography or design.

Yes 100% true! everything to make life more difficult for existing contributors and less and less profitable by the minute! its all quantity nowadays, more and more!

139
So key take aways from this
1. Get a gimbal for personal development and not for microstock
2. Leave microstock and flip burgers to make more money

So back to buying a gimbal, does it make sense

Exactly! I gave you a like for that!!  good boy!

I have all in all spent over 35 grand on all kinds of video equipment and thats apart from the Black-Magic recorder itself, the only one thing that pay are production companies NOT any Micro and NOT Getty or any other stock-agency!...the all get peanuts and cents!....now if you can work your way into various large Prod-companies then its worth it but for stock-agencies, forget it!!

although a Gimble is of course worth it for yourself so buy it! it does help a lot!

Sorry for being a bit negative but thats the way it is!

Why do you come to a micro site to tell us how good you are other places, and how terrible micro is. Then complain about caps and searches on micro, how terrible your earnings are. Don't you have your secret forum to make fun of us. Doesn't make sense.

Its called malignant narcism

compensating for tiny huevos and low self esteem.

Pathological alturism! ::) ::)

So... thinking of uploading to shutterstock...

Then took a look at a few numbers, did some math, and then noticed a few posts talking about 'spammy' portfolios (i.e., 1000 pictures of a pair of shoes, from 0-360 degrees in 0.3 degree increments, etc)...

If my math is correct, it seems on 'average' right now you'd need to have a portfolio size of about 10,000 images to 'make' about $600/year? Does that sound right? (Of course, I realize there would be outliers on both sides), but that seems to the case?

Any agreements/disagreements?

No.

I have less than 10,000 and even if I took a below average daily stats I would be well over that....in a month. Today, for example, I currently have $211.68. A mix of large clip packs, Enhanced, ODDs and SODs plus Subs.

I'd put good money on my earnings being no where near the top and certainly not an outlier.

Sure its possible! a couple of years back every single month was between 2500-3000 a month, easily! no problems at all. Something happened about a year back and that was it! and for some of us that became a doomsday and today I just let my port hang in there, dont upload anymore and since new images dont even see the light of day its no point!
Adobe/Ft have come on strong and fill the loss pretty well and so has Pond-5!  so in the end of day the loss at SS is made up!

You need to upload more gears and bearings 922 mighty not be enough.

Oh Yadi Yadi!!  I will although the big bucks comes from some 900 oil and gas industrial workers and plants!!  thats where I got one of the biggest sales during 1917 through SPL, 11.000 bucks Thank you Sir! and for a single AD-picture, beat that sonny if you can!!

Good luck, good sale

What microstock site is SPL? Don't the buyers feel bad when they could get the same photo from istock Dreamstime Shutter for $10?
[/quote

No SPL is not a microsite its a traditional agency!.....if you shoot lots of technology, Industry and engineering, Creative or editorial then give it a shot!..many agree that this agency is the very best and always get good prices!
