General Stock Discussion / Re: Fine Arts America.
« on: October 01, 2020, 11:00 »
I'm keen on submitting some of my images to FAA. Though when clicking on individual images to bring up a larger version, I notice there's not much protection against thieves. Some images have a very small watermark near the bottom right hand corner which is not much of a hindrance. And some images have no watermark at all. Is anyone worried about this?

*This is a "random selection" of recent print sales, so you can get an idea of what sells: https://fineartamerica.com/recentprintsales.html

Very diverse. I'm surprised to see a number of images in there that would normally be submitted to stock agencies as editorial. Images that feature company names, private businesses and copyrighted products. I thought it would be pretty risky submitting content like that to a POD site. I'm not sure how a company would feel if they see their brand name or whatever displayed on a product like a coffee mug without their consent.

Yea I'll try contacting support.

Sale reversals maybe?

What are sales reversals? Are they instances where buyers get refunded for purchases they no longer want? If that's the case, I find it hard to believe there were over $100 worth of refunds from countless purchases made over many, many months. Regardless, that is a lot of money to disappear.

There's another brazen thief posting over on the Contributor Experience forum over on SS. He/she/ it is asking what kinds of subjects sell. Probably looking for more photos to steal (based on recommendations of subject matter.)

Edit: woops I didn't realise that this same thread was already being discussed.

By the way, it may have been Design Space who deleted that thread. There was another thief who posted on the forum some time back and it was believed that that one was deleted by the thief himself when he was exposed by other contributors.

I have used Deepmeta in the past for submitting photos. I had no idea it contained earnings information as well.

Edit: Ive just checked out "Sales" in Deepmeta after signing in and all the fields under the headings are blank.

iStockPhoto.com / So where's my money?
« on: September 02, 2020, 10:43 »
I don't take a regular look at the ESP site because I find it awkward and tricky to navigate at times. However, I noticed that late last year, my earnings were just over $70 and then the following month, the amount was slightly over $2. So my question is - where did the rest of that money go? I didn't receive a payout. I checked PayPal and there is certainly no payment from iStock / Getty for that time period. I did get a payout from them once before.

Another thing I should add is that I actually earned just over $100 in that period but due me foolishly not updating the tax form, they took out a huge chunk of tax which left me with a little over $70. Though regardless, I don't know how it dropped from over $70 to just over $2 with no payout.

General - Stock Video / Re: Possible green screen dilemma
« on: August 29, 2020, 05:00 »
Ive just discovered that you can do masking with Shotcut so that solves my dilemma. I'd just need to flip the second copy of the same clip on the timeline horizontally in order to hide the shadow.

General - Stock Video / Possible green screen dilemma
« on: August 29, 2020, 04:02 »
So I shot some green screen footage recently, as I have in the past as well. During the shoot, I checked the corners of the viewfinder carefully and the light on the green screen looked fairly even and uniform. However, when I viewed the footage on a computer afterwards, I was surprised to see a shadow on the top left hand corner of the frame.

Just now, I imported the clip into Sony Movie Studio along with another clip and did a chroma key test. The shadow on the upper left corner does not appear to be an issue. When I keyed the green out, I could see no shadow at all. It looks seamless to me.

However, if I leave the shadow in the footage, would this potentially be off putting to buyers? Could it discourage them?

The thing is a lot of my stock footage is edited with Shotcut and I have my doubts that that software would have the means of removing the shadow. If I wanted that shadow gone, I would have to go the hassle and invest time in learning how to use new software. Although I would have to that eventually for certain future projects, it just seems overkill in order to hide a shadow that is not really a problem anyway (except in some buyers eyes perhaps.)

Newbie Discussion / Re: Finding models...

Another option is using yourself as a model. That's what I do sometimes for stills and video.

Someone has just claimed on the SS Contributor Experience forum that somewhere in the TOS, it states that SS can continue to sell content from disabled ports for as long as they like. That contradicts the 90 day rule. And it really sucks if that's the case.

Apparently disabling Java Script then allows posting.

It's probably only a matter of time before SS puts an end to that as well.

I can't test because I'm banned, but can anyone non-magical post? Only Sean's post is newer than Tuesday afternoon at the moment

As mentioned in the other thread, I cannot post. And I can't send private messages either. At first, I thought I was banned. But maybe that's not the case after all.

I can still see the forums.  Last posts look to be Tuesday.

Except one :)

How were you able to reply in the forum? I and several others here cannot do that.

There are a lot of contributors still joining - they must wonder what's going on.
If they are only just joining, they won't know any better, and SS want to keep it that way.

The forum link is still visible and active on the dashboard. So new contributors may wonder what's going on when they click on that link and end up in a dead forum.

I think that after the percentage reduction they got such a kicking in the press, utube, Facebook, and various forums that they decided to prevent the latest news announced yesterday coming under any negative scrutiny on their home turf. For those of you unaware - the latest news

So you reckon they want to keep us in the dark about that? Gosh, what a bunch of nice guys (spoken in a sarcastic tone.)

Ive had 11 x 0.43c video "sales" this month.

That must really sting. I don't think I could handle that those kinds of returns for video sales. The sooner we leave this madness behind, the better.

Ive just had the lowest priced video sale Ive ever experienced on SS - $7.20. I know some people have had much lower returns than that for clips but for me, this is something new. Previously, my lowest was $10 for a clip.

Despite not getting any ultra low video sales yet, I'll probably still disable my photo and video ports when I hit my next payout. I know it will only be a matter of time before I receive crumbs for my clips.

244
A number of hours have passed and still no new posts on the SS forums. I think you may be right about them being disabled. Odd that they didn't make an announcement about this.

If this is a permanent move, I wonder if they will keep the forums accessible for viewing or get rid of them completely.

245
Must have been painful to them having gotten all adverse comments removed from FB and other social media only to discover that they were hosting their own adverse comments site.  ;D

There is something very amusing in that!

246
Hey good point. Ive noticed an absence of new posts recently. And gosh yea that would be a bold move disabling the forum but I'm not surprised why.

There were some good people on those forums that I liked to converse with.

I have noticed a few people had short term bans from the forums recently. I just assumed that the same thing happened to me.

247
It seems that I can't reply to existing threads or start new ones on the forums at SS. Can't send private messages either. Hopefully, the ban is temporary. I didn't receive any notification about it or anything like that. No e-mail.

Ive hardly said anything negative on the forums. I did share my outrage of the new massive payment cut but so have most other contributors. And I expressed my thoughts about that ages ago - not recently. And some contributors have been a lot more vocal and aggressive about that topic than I have.

Oh well. I guess I'll just have to wait it out.

248
Chrisroll and Niakris, I'd like to consider both of those options. How exactly would I go about doing those things? Step by step instructions would be good though with regards to setting up profiles at a particular agency, I guess I had better ask Pond 5 how to manage that.

With Stocksubmitter, I recently opened up a second account which I planned to use specifically for the exclusive Pond 5 account. Though that didn't work. When the program opened, all the agencies with their respective settings were already selected and visible from my other account.

"Africa studio

Welcome to the world of modern commercial images and footages.

Bright, creative and trendy images and footages will help you visualize any subject and field of activity."

For such a big company earning so much money in the microstock industry, I'm surprised they couldn't afford to pay someone to do a grammar check on their text. 'Footage' is an uncountable noun by the way. What they wrote doesn't sound very professional.

Regardless, I was really hoping their split from SS would be permanent. Though that is clearly not the case.

250
Just wondering if it's possible to use Stocksubmitter with two different Pond 5 accounts? I currently have an exclusive P5 account and a non exclusive P5 account. And Stocksubmitter submits to the non exclusive P5 account at the moment as well as a few other agencies.

Alternatively, I guess I could open up a second Stocksubmitter account and use that one just for the exclusive P5 account?
