Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock Search Webinar
« on: February 25, 2020, 09:06 »
Hi Mat,
I just yesterday watched the webinar about keywords.
Unfortunately, I didn't know about 49 keywords rule. So, if I go backwards now and delete 50th keyword on my files, will it be recognized by the system in the way that the first 10 keywords start having priority ?
And also, can it be suggested to developers to make trimming of keywords (when there are more than 50) to make trimming to 49 keywords, not 50?
Thanks in advance!

Pol, are you familiar with bitcoin history? Well ,this is the same. You missed to invest when bitcoin was 500 and you missed to sell it at 20000. You missed it, it's gone. Too late, sorry.

Haha, I guess you being a member since 2017 really catch that moment and are the one to ask for, right?

How can you come to that conclusion if you don't upload anything new? The fact that older images still sell is not a proof that new images don't sell. Unless you actually do an experiment with two identical accounts, there's no way you can tell.

Exactly, the fact that old images still sell dosn't have to mean that new ones doesn't. But it is true for my short new experience uploadign new material that agencies are doing something wrong.

In my opinion the acceptance level is too low, with trillions of poor imagery flooding the result in an non relevant serch result. I tried to find my own images doing searches of 3 or 4 keywords and a bunch of non relevant results appear at front. is very hard to be noticed this way.
I think that having 50 keywords is also insane and contribute to this mess, if you only could put say 15 -20 keywords then searches results would bee much more precise.

In the last 2 weeks i uploaded about 50 images and only sold 1 in SS and 2 in AS, this was not what happened 10 years ago.

Any way my intention is to keep producing new material and see what happen in a mid-long term.

Cheers
wow, what an arrogant reply
you mean 2017 on this forum? no, I started 2006. i gave you valuable info from a veteran. But, You dont like it, do you. I wanted to help, ashole

It is 0.33 on Depositphotos for me. But, with a fraction of files (haven't uploaded the whole portfolio for the obvious reasons there) it almost outperforming my number 4 - 123rf. But, it is more because of 123rf sinking abnormally fast.

But everything he says is spot on.

It looks like a load issue - things are timing out.  Sometimes it works, often things dont.

So far
- the dashboard accepted/pending thing doesnt work
- the keyword suggestion doesnt work
- FTP doesnt work

...and from a buyers side:-

- search times out
- contributors galleries dont work

They've managed to break both buyer AND contributor stuff at the same time.

I guess their exponential expansion due to the "accept everything" policy is starting to catch up with their creaky infrastructure and coding.
I thought not so long ago they said they rebuilt their system to bring their infrastructure up to date?  :o. I know they spent vast sums on IT.......
One of their moves was to limit files pixel dimensions to 150M, although many other agencies keep it at 250m, because the files from the newer full frame cameras are larger than 150M by default, and then you don't have to downsize them. It is very frustrating to downsize each picture, just because they can't keep up with the standards for modern cameras and the storage space needed for that.

My sales are down, but also I had a higher proportion of PA sales, which shoots the rpd down. Quite probably, Getty is working hard to migrate buyers into PA.
What is PA? Thanks

If I were to choose, I'll pick old images to sell better because we got more old images than new images. And yeah, our new images will become old anyways, someday.
If only time freezes and there wasn't competition. One day buyers will realize that there is an agency or few of them out there with good choice of quality new images, and SS offering 10 or 15 years old stuff will not be attractive any more. At least I hope there will be competition.

What an inflation calculator gives you is a different thing  then a real life experience.

No, it gives you exactly the real life experience. 2008-2018 the US inflation was 16.4%, which means the average was just above 1.32% per year.

Even ten years ago low risk funds were returning 2,5% per year, the ones for low risk investor with sole aim to fight inflation. So, investing in these funds 10 years ago would give you 28% return.
But, thanks for providing the exact numbers ;)

What do low risk funds have to do with anything? They could just as easily have gone down 10% while the inflation was still 16.4%, unless those funds included a small piece of exactly everything in the US economy.

If your low risk fund went up 2.5% per year 2008-2018, great! You beat inflation. But inflation was still 1.32% per year on average.
If you are going to spend your money on every single product of US economy, like coal and lignite, beside bread, clothes and real estate, than yes, it is real life experience. The funds reflect the real inflation much better, because investor is deciding between investing in a fund and a house, for example, and the market dictates what returns are realistic.

That's right and worrying.
If we assume that yearly inflation is 2.5%, it is around 28% after 10 years. That means 2.85 should be 3.65 now.

But it wasn't. The last 10 years US inflation was 16.4%. So $3.32 is the magical number.  ;)

At this time Contributors should have a raise...from 2.85 to 4.25.... it is 10 years without any raise, and please start to complaint if not in 10 more years you still have 2,85 that equals according inflation through 20 years to 10 cents

« on: May 24, 2018, 05:13 »

No, this is not true. All accepted files uploaded to Fotolia are automatically online at Adobe Stock and all content uploaded via Adobe Stock that is approved is automatically online at Fotolia.

Why did we sync then?

Does account syncing influence sales in some way?
Yes,
if not synced, your files won't appear at Adobe site.

I'm not with Eyem, but I understood that premium images are sent over to Getty. If it is so, it can take up to few months for pictures to be removed.

The thing with this model of distribution ( a middleman that secures you an entrance to Getty and other agencies that you can't get into on your own) is that it is a thing of the past. During golden years of macrostock, when these kind of  middlemen popped up everywhere, it was ok for photographers to give them half of the revenue, since they paychecks were huge.
Nowdays, no one can afford to give up on 50%, when earnings are so low.
Working directly with an agency that has strong customer base, like Getty at macro, or Shutterstock in micro,  is still the best solution for a stock photographer.
My opinion is these middleman should cut their provision, since the times have changed extremely. I would sign such an agreement only if middleman's share was 15-20%.
Imagine someone takes 50% of your microstock earnings every month. Would you still be satisfied?

Interesting read, thanks Uncle Pete. Unfortunately, it's a pure speculation, so not of any value.

Yes it is speculation, no argument. However, the speculation is based on observations that my best sellers are not first and new files, plus some that have never sold are also on the first page of popular. That leads me to some self evident, simple conclusions.

I'd like the alternative views to what I wrote if you have something to add. That would be interesting. Or point out where my reasoning is wrong? Look at your own collection and most popular, what do you see that's not as I wrote?
I have almost the same experiences and conclusions based on my portfolio (more than 10 years of microstock work). What I'm optimistic about is that they will be giving up on favoring the bestsellers that are too old, because it's just a nonsense that 10-15 years old pictures are kept on the front page, when there is a flood of new images everyday. Maybe when shareholders hear about that or something. It will change for better, I'm sure.
What I wanted to say earlier is that I would prefer to hear opinions of some insiders that work on these algorithms.

« on: April 20, 2018, 14:36 »
I see that many of their pictures are credited to Westend61, Cultura, Imagesource. Which means they are a macrostock reseller.
Wasn't there Superstock  that was bought by Getty years ago?

123RF / Re: Cannot download my own images without paying?!
« on: April 18, 2018, 01:10 »
That one feature was only reason I was still uploading files there. Sales at 123rf are in the toilet, but I still uploaded there so I could have a quick online backup of my work.
Just syncs Dropbox with your output folder.

When set on Popular, not new, SS gives almost identical results to IS and Fotolia. What was your point?  Sorry,  Shade Sue already asked the same question.

my poi wa the shutter stock has 3 times images of stock...beacuas mostly they accept any customer and any photo...new images on ss are appalling hundreds of repetition....that'swhy any mental safe customer doesn't use the new tabs and why we keep selling mostly old images, and new images don't sell....in stock 80% of sales fromfeb are from files uploaded in the last year, and view statistic tell me exactly that mostly new files are viewed. this is important if you want grow quality content.
in ss i grow only because old files keep selling but really small revenue come from new work.
Thanks for explanation. It is really a big problem for future growth, unfortunately, I see that trend on most of the stock agencies, except IS, but they have a tone of other negative moves.

I'm familiar with this agency in my neighborhood , don't be worried.
It will show, it needs time, sometimes even few months.

123RF / One mouse click to reach the sales stats page tip 123RF
« on: February 11, 2018, 08:10 »
There was a topic some time ago, how it is complicated to get to Earnings page, upload page etc. on 123RF
So, there is a tip that includes literally one mouse click (with some scrolling :) ).
Open the opening page and scroll all the way down to the bottom. There, on the bottom righ you'll find For Contributors column. Just click whatever you want - Upload, History, Earnings etc. That's it.
This doesn't mean I'm a fan of 123RF. Quite the contrary, the sales halved when the new software was introduced the last year, which I find very suspicious. After that the earnings continue to fall down. I don't trust them any more. I don't trust any of smaller agencies that rely on our daily habit to upload to all the agencies aveliable, or the most of them. Although we produce out content with the biggest agencies in mind, since they are the ones that bring us money and motivate us and dictate the trends what to shoot. We just continue to upload that same quality content to the small ones, too. The small agencies are doing literally nothing, just waiting for these content.
By the time they have developed a parasite mindset and behaviour, which is not good for us. They are taking away and they give nothing.
