iStockPhoto.com / Re: Keyword disambiguating on site gone?
« on: July 04, 2018, 14:32 »
For me the disambiguation appears generally. In case I begin to write a word letter by letter (instead of copy/paste, etc.), it appears sometimes only when I am done writing the whole word.

Hi!

A kind of strange thing has happened to me regarding "Single & other" downloads on Shutterstock and I would like to ask you if it is just me or it is happening to others as well.  :-\

I have had around 20 SOD every month until April. In March I got actually 2 different bigger SOD (40$+) sales too. But following that, in April I had 0, in May 0, and in June only 1. How could they disappear like that, from 20 to none at all? Could have been a search algorithm change? Is it a "cap"? Strange, nonetheless.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Exclusive vs Not
« on: June 13, 2018, 00:33 »
I do vector illustrations and have been wondering about this, but decided against it. The basic rate for illustrations is 20% and the maximum you could get as exclusive is 45% (with 110.000 downloads - the 40% with 16.500 downloads looks more achievable), which is a bit more than double. If being exclusive means more favorable search position, that could add to the final earnings sum, not sure how much though.

This year iStock/Getty is my highest earning agency and it makes up for about 40-50% of my total. That means if I would go exclusive with them the end result MIGHT be pretty comparable; but it would also mean that I am more at risk to the changes of only one site and I rather stay with more options.

There is no definitive answer, the choice is yours. :)

I knew it roughly, but I was curious about the actual figures, so I gave it a go. My all time revenue (3 years) from vector illustrations only:

Fotolia/Adobe: 43%
Shutterstock: 32%
iStock/Getty: 25%

Altough, when I consider this year only, surprisingly, iStock/Getty leads well ahead of the others, so the order might change in the future.

Wow, please, let us know if it turns out to be possible!

I am in the same situation, it would be so great to change GBP to EUR! In the past it was automatic (it all depended on the domain you registered - uk. or eu.) and you just found out when it came to payment, without a way to change it.  :-\

Wow, if it's real and not just some glitch, BME, almost +50% of my usual earnings (and +50% of SS/AS).  :D

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is $1000/months a big amount?
« on: July 02, 2017, 01:57 »
Your earning compared to your portofio size seems like you really need to change or broaden your subject and concept. It is a good idea to test some new vectors, after a while you will see which could work for you. I always have at least 3-4 different category and subjects covered, those that I have noticed that work for me the best.

It might be a good idea to try Fotolia/Adobe and iStock too. I am doing only vector illustrations and out of the three sites Shutterstock tends to be my lowest earner. Who knows, you might have better "luck" with other agencies. :)

SS was average, but down compared to last month.

Yes, I got one, and as far as I know it's genuine - they've done this before and used surveymonkey.

BTW, by posting the URL as you have, I think some one else could take that and fill it in for you... I'd suggest you edit it out.

Oops, thank you! :)

Oh, wow, it's nice to see it arriving sooner and also being the best month ever (for me it's 30% more than the previous BME)! :)

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Preview Image Colors WAY Off
« on: May 22, 2017, 23:28 »
The fault lies with Canstock. I'm experiencing the same problem.

Yes, it's their fault, that somehow their system probably chooses this CMYK PostScript and/or tiwsts it, instead the RGB colors. With no other agency happens something like this. However, could you try what I have suggested? Save just one EPS8 with "Include CMYK PostScript In RGB Files" unchecked und upload it. If, by any chance, it works for you too, then we really migh have figured this out.

Here's the article about this PostScript that made me think: https://jamietshaw.wordpress.com/2011/01/23/preventing-rgb-colour-shifts/

I contacted them and told them about it. They asked me to provide 2 or 3 image ID numbers of the affected files, so I did that. Still waiting to hear back from them.

Did you hear from them?

I contacted them too, they replied kinda fast, but in the meantime I might have figured it out on my own, what the problem is. When saving the EPS8 file in Illustrator, there's an option that says: Include CMYK PostScript In RGB Files, wich was checked. Because there was no such problem with this until now, I did not bother looking into it, but as a test I have saved 3 vector files now with this option unchecked, uploaded them and they look all right now! This might have been the problem, hopefully it's all clear now and won't happen again. :)

YES! I've thought it might just be me and couldn't understand what's going on. I made a "test" with uploading ~10 vectors, to figure out the process, etc., and the preview images are horrible. I checked the color mode, it's RGB, like requested and there's no such problem anywhere else, so I don't know, it should be something on their end. I'm secretely hoping, that after they get reviewed (been also waiting for a month now) it will change, if not, there's no sense uploading more, because they get messed up.   :-\

Not yet, you still have to wait 5 more days.  ;)

"Royalty Statements are published on the 20th of each month."

I got the mail but no credit were added  :(

Did you check the menu at the left? In the "MY CREDITS" part you can see all of your sales and transactions. It shows the date and says "Positive adjustment" and the credit added too.

42
Got the same e-mail and checked the "My credits" part, it's almost 10 credits for me, which is nice. I'm not sure when this technical issue occured, but my sales last week were less than usual, so it might be because of this missing credits. Whatever, nice message and apology from them, I'm glad. :)

« on: April 09, 2017, 03:41 »
Hi!

From someone who has joined them recently: there are some informations down, at the very end of their front page. The letters are very small, but you should be able to notice it. It says:

For Contributors

Sell Content
Profile & Portfolio

Tax Center

Also, when it comes to joining them, you have to agree to their terms. When you click on these terms, you can read it, there's lots of informations in it.

Hope this helps! :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: How is your March?
« on: March 30, 2017, 07:56 »
For me (vector illustrations only):
Shutterstock is average (it seemed to shape up to be a better month, but it did not happen in the end)
Fotolia above average
iStock, well, no idea yet

45
Those who can survive on microstock alone, are an endangered species.

Like animals threatened with extinction, they can survive for some time in areas with the most favourable conditions (i.e. "low costs of living") or if they are very strong.
But I am afraid that at some point in the future, they will all go the way of the dodo, nevertheless. Unfortunately.

I belong to this endangered species (doing vectors only).  :) In my case the low cost of living helps me to achieve this. On the other hand I get what you mean, it makes me wonder how long could this work too, wouldn't expect to go on forever, but I'm not panicking either. Succesful people always stand on more "feet" and it's always better to be prepared,  so even though I manage for now, I'm already thinking of finding other income sources beside microstock.

46
They never seem to bother about the tax forms - I just total up the payments I receive and report that.

I would not bother starting with them.  I don't remember exactly but I think they start you off at 22 cents per subscription download, which is insultingly low and should not be supported.

Thank you, I understand your point, but because every agency performs so very different, I might give them a chance,  only with a few files, just for a test run. (Dreamstime was  the only agency that I've dropped so far, due to VERY poor success.) Time will tell.  :-\

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is iStock worth it?
« on: March 26, 2017, 05:14 »

I made $35 out of 1900 images WOO YAY GO FOR IT GETTY  :-\

Oh, wow, I'm really surprised, sorry to hear that. :( It is interesting, that every agency can be performing so different for every single contributor.

I do vector illustrations and happen to have luck with iStock (for me it's like Shutterstock, both of them only behind Fotolia). But for now I'm also very curious how things will change. February was good, very stable compared to January and second best month ever, but it may be also because I've uploaded a lot of new files. I'm waiting for the March report though, to be able to see a bigger picture.

48
I forgot to mention it before, but I'm from Europe actually, so that makes me a non-resident.

If they send a 1042-S though, that means the payment comes from the USA (and not some subcompany from Europe or elsewhere), right? I got my answer then. Thank you!

123RF / From which country does 123rf pay their contributors?
« on: March 25, 2017, 09:16 »
Hi,

I'm thinking about uploading my portfolio at 123rf too, but because of tax reasons I would like to know, from which country does 123rf pay their contributors?
It seems that their headquarter is in Chicago, USA, but there were some lines in the agreement that it is being regulated by the laws of Hong Kong, so I'm not sure about it.
Also: do they send an electronic receipt after the payment (like Fotolia or Istock), or not?

Thank you for the answer and help in advance! :)
