General Photography Discussion / Re: Wemark
« on: October 17, 2018, 16:07 »
From Wemark on facebook : Wemark :

Meet Jon Feinstein, Wemark's new Director of Content and Marketing strategy

Jon is a Seattle and New York City-based photographer, curator, writer, Shutterstock's 5th employee, and co-founder of Humble Arts Foundation, a non-profit championing emerging art photography. A strategic "Swiss Army knife" Jon's had his hands in nearly every angle of the photo world, spanning marketing, content creation and curation.

Jon spent more than a decade at Shutterstock, joining in 2005 and growing brand and marketing strategy from the ground up. In his early days, he built Shutterstock's first print advertising and events strategy, putting the company on the map for millions of readers across magazines like Communication Arts, HOW, PRINT, and Aperture, while negotiating substantial presence at conferences like South By Southwest and Cannes Lions. Over time, he grew to lead partnerships with advertising and creative organizations including Art Directors Club, CreativeMornings, D&AD, and TED, collaborating with teams across Shutterstock to develop thoughtful, engaging content with each partner. One of his proudest achievements was building a program connecting some of the world's most powerful speakers including Serena Williams and Siri founder Tom Gruber with access to stock imagery for their talks around the world.

In his spare time, Jon is an established photography curator and has collaborated with galleries and non-profits including the Filter Photo Festival, United Photo Industries, Hasted Kreutler Gallery, Glassbox Gallery, Spin Magazine, Milk Studios, and ArtBridge to name a few. His curatorial projects have been featured in Aperture, The New York Times, BBC, The New Yorker, Hyperallergic, Feature Shoot, and American Photo, and his writing has appeared in VICE, Photograph, TIME, Slate, GOOD, Daylight, and PDN. His own photography has been exhibited around the US, and has been featured in VICE, Booooooom, and Slate. He also teaches photography and visual literacy at Seattle's Photographic Center Northwest.

On a personal note, Jon just became a dad and is excited for all the crazy wonders that fatherhood has to offer.

yes, it's the trump trade war that kicked in a while ago. One more conspiracy on why our sales are poor with SS  8)

It's a good one!

Maybe the US buyers have very distinct tastes and buy mostly US material or at least with a US style

Maybe it's because i'm canadien and Trump dont like us anybody  :P

IS right now (and it was the same approx. with SS)
1.   United States 54%
2.   Canada 22%
3.   United Kingdom   10%
4.   India   9%
5.   France 5%

but now for SS it's free for all around the world (except USA & Canada)
weird.

105
I think that something is wrong with SS ... usually, for me, the country that buys the most is the USA, followed by Canada ... since the beginning of the month, I sell all over the world and very little of the USA / Canada ... besides seeing my level of sale decrease ... it is possible? Where can I get the complete stats on SS?

thank you

General Stock Discussion / Re: Eyeem Marketplace Down?
« on: October 12, 2018, 08:47 »
Is there a point uploading to Eyeem if I am already uploading to iStock? Isn't it a big problem that they don't have watermarks?

I have around 130 pics on Eyeem, upload around 10 pics each 2 weeks for 16$ sales since 6 months... not worth the effort (for me). Worst with Twenty20 (I deleted my account). I think i will do the same with Eyeem for the simple raison that they dont have watermark...

Usually, SS is very fast for reviews, I'm on the 5th day of waiting ... does this slowdown affect everyone?

You do not need an app to see that, go to the esp site : My Performance/Content statistics/downloads and choose august...

True, I only found out this downloads stats 10 minutes ago. August stats are already there. 1 download more than in July

-20 for me ;-( but maybe my rdp will be better? i hope!).

You can see which files you've sold in August using the Getty contributor app... but you can't see the amount you've sold them for thou.
Can you tell us where to find this app, please?
Someone mentioned it on here recently, but didn't follow up when asked.

Try this https://www.google.com/search?q=Getty+contributor+app&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b
Thanks.

General Stock Discussion / 1..2..3..rf anemic sales
« on: August 29, 2018, 07:26 »
Hi, for me it's the worst... 16$ sales in one year.
I have a question, i want to ending this, if i ask to close my account, will they give me my balance or will they keep it for themselves? at this rate, it will take me 4 years to reach the minimum payout of $ 50 lol.
the worst of the worst!

If you're wanting to sell directly, why not send watermarked small images directly?
If you want to sell via Alamy, you could make a lightbox and email them that.
I think it would be morally dodgy to make an Alamy lightbox and use that to sell directly, but ymmv.

I thought about it too. After reading your comments, I instead opted to write them an email to offer my photos and if they are interested, how they would like to review my batch of photos ... for a possible transaction.

thanks!

Hi, we have a major construction site of a bridge in my city, the organization that manages the site have an internet site with some photos (not very beautiful) and webcams to follow the evolution of the site live . My question is: I took dozens of photos of days, during the golden hour and long exposure (night) of the construction site. I would like to present my portfolio (pictures of the construction site) to this organization ... what would be the best way? Can I, for example, send an Alamy link, by email, so that they can only see my photos of this construction site? Tell them that I have all the original files, RAW includes? I think it's a great opportunity and the worst thing would be to have no answer ...

What do you think and above all, what would you do? thank you!!!!!!!

General Photography Discussion / Re: Great spot in Tokyo?
« on: August 23, 2018, 14:27 »
Tokyo is also very camera friendly. I know a lot of cities in the US and the world I have felt a little paranoid carrying cameras around.  In Tokyo it is like 50% of the folks on the street have a camera around their neck. Tokyo and most other Japanese cities are really camera friendly.

good to know!

Hi, question for the connoisseurs of this city: I'm going to Tokyo in a month, it's going to be essentially a culture, gastronomy and photography trip. As I'm going to be alone, I'm going to have a lot of time taking pictures. Do you have places to see, to visit and to photograph that are not necessarily in the travel guides? Place not to be missed?

I plan to do :
- night long exposure;
-timelapse with a motorized slider/pan/tilt.
-Videos
-sunset/sunrise pics and timelapse
-a lot of pics of anything nice (editorial and not)

Thank you !

I would say that pretty much the entire city of Tokyo is an absolute goldmine for what you're describing. It is truly incredible, especially at night and blue hour. Just walk around and you will stumble upon location after location. As a very nice bonus, it is also extremely safe which makes walking around alone with camera equipment at night a pleasure instead of something unpleasant.

Just use suncalc.net for exact sunset/sunrise times and locations. It's brilliant. It will show the correct times once you're actually in Tokyo, as it displays the time based on your IP address.

For an incredible aerial view, you can go up to Roppongi Hills and the Mori Tower. I did not bring a tripod up there, so I don't know their policy, but there is plenty of space so might not be a problem.

All in all, this city is a photographer's dream, and I will probably go back soon, now that I have much better equipment and skill.

Thanks! i just add Roppongi Hills and the Mori Tower on my list!

I use 2 app who do the same things... i will be good.

Also, I plan to bring my motorized slider for more fun ;-)

 :)

"one year to pay back 800 dollar?
oh god."

Do I need to repeat that I started from scratch? what does your comment add to the conversation? Nothing ... zero, niet, nada. You seem to have a lot of time, you should take some pictures or just get some fresh air and put some positivism in your (too many) post.  ;D

I am very happy with this $ 1200 (and not $ 800)

Don't mind him. Total idiot and laughing stock in this forum.

Idiot, i dont know, but a short break or a few days of vacation would certainly not hurt him!
peace

Happy, considering that i started from 0 in may 2017. for me IS is the best. $ = double what i did on SS. Almost triple $ of what I did on AS. If I combine all my income from the sites I contribute to, I have just paid back the purchase of my G85. Not bad at all for the little amateur that I am!

Someone will certainly ask me the question: What are you doing with all the time you have spent on this? Well, the time to learn Lightroom, Photoshop in addition to the photo missions to get used to my camera, to put into practice what I learned in my classes = for me, a total enrichment !.

I did a google search of 'stock images' and was surprised to see DT doesn't even come up on the search.  I do see many newer sites that I don't contribute to -
Pexels, Upsplash, Canva.  wondering if these new sites are producing anything exciting.
and i do mean exciting...lol

A drone crashed in downtown Montreal last year, a DJI Phantom. This drone weighs about 4 pounds, he could have killed someone. I know the police are investigating this incident (drone serial number, etc.). The person who crashed his drone must be a little stressed! The problem is that this kind of gear can be bought by any idiot who could put people's lives in danger, they have no choice to regulate.
