Computer Hardware / 2TB cloud storage alternative
« on: June 12, 2019, 08:43 »
You own the device, you have it at your home or location with internet. You control who can view or add images. Group, individual, Etc.

http://retail.sandisk.com/index.php/email/emailWebview

I'm not getting one, but I thought it was interesting because people have asked about travel and safe backup while on the road. 2T isn't huge, I'm sure there will be larger and competition. If I understood the promotional material, which is mostly fluff, you can send from any device, to your home storage unit.

A web connected 2T hard drive for $149 or $179 isn't a bad price. I don't need one, I'm not buying, or selling them. I just thought this was a new creative way to have photo sharing, and the owner controls everything. Personally SD cards and thumb drives are cheap enough that I can carry a pocket full. I have external drives, for backup in the field.

Private photo sharing device, is how I'd define it?

Off Topic / Professional Photographer?
« on: June 04, 2019, 06:43 »
https://babylonbee.com/news/canon-now-including-professional-photographer-certificate-with-all-cameras-costing-at-least-599

"If you spend at least $599 on a camera, you're instantly transformed into a professional photographer, and now you have the documentation to prove it," a Canon spokesperson said. "In a lot of professions, you have to take classes or practice for years before you truly become a professional, but not in photography. Just buy one of our budget to mid-range cameras, and you're in."

(ps consider the source when reading news) I thought this was funny. Just like a new batch of professional photographers each year over the holidays when people get new DSLR cameras as gifts.  ;)

http://www.bbc.com/capital/story/20190423-how-the-paparazzi-make-their-money

Some interesting parallels with stock photography and along the same lines and times.

The global financial crisis and the rise of online media finally killed the gold rush. Digital media increased the demand for celebrity photographs but decreased the price media companies were willing to pay for them. Photo agencies began to consolidate or go out of business, and the remaining ones changed their business model. Instead of making magazines pay per photo, they offered a subscription service: publishers could use as many photos as they wanted to fulfill the greater demand for cheaper shots. As a result, paparazzi are paid a small fraction of the subscription fee; how much depends on how many of their pictures are used each month. That means an exclusive Just Like Us photo that would have fetched $5,000 to $15,000 before, now pays only $5 or $10.

Software - General / Time-Lapse Tool Software
« on: April 10, 2019, 09:31 »
https://timelapsetool.com/

Anyone have experience with this one. $99 for the full version, that allows commercial licensing and does 4K

Mostly I'm just getting frustrated with converting stills from a DSLR to proper aspect ratios, black bars. Or from a smaller camera to video. OpenShot drive me nuts, Premier Elements crashes, I don't see anything else with the capabilities that the Time-Lapse Tool claims.

But I'd like to know from someone who has used it, can I drop in, lets say for example, 800 sequenced shots from my DLSR, full size, or will I have to convert and downsize like everything else I've tried, because the other software, OpenShot, Photolapse and the rest just can't handle it.

Plenty of memory on the computer, GTX 1070 Windows 10, I just want to stop having to convert, resize, downsize and spend all that time.

Anyone use or have used T-L Tool?

Site Related / Site Changed
« on: April 03, 2019, 11:15 »
I went to change my Sig. line logo of the month and they don't work anymore. Instead the forum substitutes a 1x0 pixel standard, which effectivly blocks any image. If you have one, don't change it, because the image won't show.

On the other hand I created a nice text smile, so I'm happy.

Dreamstime.com / Megapixl.com by Dreamstime
« on: March 16, 2019, 15:57 »
Does anyone notice if a download comes from Megapixl.com instead of Dreamstime? I was reading the court case and saw the part where DT said they opened a new agency to direct more traffic to their site.

Just wondering if we see any difference or if it's just the same either place.

I did search for one of my new uploads by date on Megapixl.com and there I was, first on the first page.

General Stock Discussion / May be interesting or upsetting
« on: March 06, 2019, 13:23 »
I know there have been many discussions about displays and buyers, resolutions, colors and quality of previews. I just found this today. The agency doesn't matter, but it just happens to be Pond5.

I switched to see if my gallery looked different on FireFox or Chrome, then tried Edge. Oh Oh, look at the colors. Probably on a Mac things would look different too.

Same computer, same time, same monitor, same video card, same capture software. Only think I can conclude is, each browser will look different for buyers, depending on their computer but also depending on their browser. I'm done worrying about sRGB or the sites thumbs and previews, there's nothing that we can control.

Anyone care to guess the browser and decide from your viewpoint, which image is best? Top, Middle or Bottom?

Of course that's kind of silly because if what I'm looking at is only here, everything depending on your computer, monitor and browser will also look different, won't it? Hmmmm

Pond5 / Anyone doing AUDIO at Pond5?
« on: March 06, 2019, 09:18 »
I just discovered that my exclusive at IS became no restrictions when Music moved to Getty. OK so I missed that change?  :-[

I started uploading to P5 yesterday. SFX but there's room for music some day.

Anyone with experience have any advise or review of the viability of Music or SFX at P5?

Thanks

General - Stock Video / News about Drones US regulations
« on: February 13, 2019, 09:32 »
Latest on US Drone Regulations: (from a rail forum post, not mine)

Drone owners will soon need to display their device's registration numbers on the outside of the craft, the Federal Aviation Administration has declared. The agency, which last month proposed https://www.engadget.com/2019/01/14/dot-faa-new-proposed-drone-rules-overnight-over-crowds/ looser restrictions on drone night flights, posted https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2019-00765.pdf the rule on a Federal Register preview site. The directive is set to take effect on February 23rd -- you'll need to mark the ID number on your drone's body by then.

The FAA created its mandatory drone registration program https://www.engadget.com/2015/10/19/us-transportation-department-confirms-drone-registration-program/ in 2015. Though a court struck it down https://www.engadget.com/2017/05/19/dont-need-register-personal-drones-with-faa-anymore/ in May 2017, registration regulations were reinforced later that year when the National Defense Authorization Act for 2018 became law https://www.engadget.com/2017/12/12/trump-signs-bill-requiring-drone-registration/. When the FAA initially established the program, it said drone owners could house the ID number within the battery compartment as long as tools weren't required to open it.
The new measure is coming into place to help law enforcement and security officers identify drone owners easier and faster. The FAA wrote in the Federal Register filing that officials from other agencies were concerned about "the risk a concealed explosive device poses to first responders who must open a compartment to find the small unmanned aircraft's registration number."
The FAA said it was able to enforce the rule without first seeking public comment because of a clause in the Administrative Procedure Act. It claimed that, had it simply proposed the rule at first, "first responders could be exposed to additional risk during the notice and comment period as a result of the attention drawn to the vulnerability." You'll still have 30 days to submit comments on the rule after it's published in the Federal Register on Wednesday.

Off Topic / Global Warming is causing the Polar Vortex ???
« on: January 25, 2019, 08:17 »
"Large swaths of the U.S. are experiencing the first polar vortex event of 2019, and The New York Times is out with an article suggesting cold snaps are becoming more frequent because of global warming."

https://dailycaller.com/2019/01/20/polar-vortex-not-global-warming/

As the Arctic gets warmer and warmer, the severe weather picks up, Dr. Cohen said.

and a different climatologist says

The frequency of cold waves have decreased during the past fifty years, not increased. That alone shows that such claims are baseless, Mass said.

??? Now the climatologists are splitting and fracturing, like the political parties. Isn't science supposed to be based on conclusions from facts and evidence, not politics or a preconceived conclusion? At least I know where the NYT stands on the political issues. Global warming causes increased cold winters? Give me a break!  ::)

Off Topic / Global Economic Slowdown Ahead
« on: January 16, 2019, 07:24 »
I put this in off topic but I think some people here might have opinions on how or incomes are connected to the global economy.

Basic observation, if the world economy drops, the need for our work will also drop. Production and gains have slowed in some major countries. Metal prices have fallen. I don't want to swing over to the doom side, but I just wanted to point out, the people who download and license our images, depend on the rest of the economy to drive their business.

Opinion: A slowdown for the global economy would mean a slowdown for our earnings.

Anyone have a different view or anything additional?

I saw this store and there are others. Lists as SHUTTERSTOCK DESIGNS, I don't think a sub covers this, maybe not EL needed, so SO or OD?

No really

"Thanks for giving us the chance to consider your image. Unfortunately, during our review we found that it contains one or more technical issues, so we can't accept it into our collection."

Love/hate, what technical issues? But thanks for keeping up the standards Adobe.

"Thanks for giving us the chance to consider your image. Unfortunately, during our review we found that it doesn't have the aesthetic or commercial appeal we're looking for, so we can't accept it into our collection."

Same as the other, more information, but still, keep rejecting crapstock, junk, duplicates (not similar) and things that make the site look bad.

I honestly feel that holding up the higher standards, makes the collection and the integrity of our images, look better for buyers.

General - Top Sites / Thanksgiving 2018
« on: November 21, 2018, 16:51 »
Just wanted to mention for those who aren't in the US and might not have noticed, it's Thanksgiving, vacations, people off, business closed, hunting season opened in the Northern states. Don't be surprised if there are low sales. Which leads to the holiday slumps, Christmas, Hanukah, other... unless you have seasonal images that get downloads at this time of year.

Updated poll because of changes, ESP, Getty, changes at IS, commission and market changes. Also this way Exclusive is no co-mingled with regular multi-agency contributors. NOTE: Photo, video, audio everything combined.

121
I was just looking and the price is now lower again. Yes it's a net?  http://www.ktools.net/

$29 for Photostore Pro which allows for video and other files. Pro does some things extra, but for $10 more, why not?

pdf, mp3, ai, svg, stl, doc, mpeg, mpg, avi, mp4, mkv, mov, wmv

Anyone using this currently? I think for the price, I could buy it as a toy, just to play with the software?  ;)

Edited to add: "PhotoStore is fully functional however we no longer develop or support it. We do not offer any support. All support questions can be directed to our support forum where we have hundreds of active members who can assist you. The money back guarantee is also still available."

The support forum doesn't appear to be there either. Kind of disappointing that there's no support and no forum and it appears the software has become As Is no future.

122
What if the poll showed all the agencies that don't get enough votes? And yes I know, some of these are closed for new or very difficult to get accepted, other possible issues. Just for What If? Name: # that's how many took the poll. We don't know how many IS exclusives are participating.

Shutterstock.com / SS Search Surprise!
« on: November 10, 2018, 12:07 »
Search changed in ten minutes, then changed back again. Look at the time of the screen captures. If anyone is looking at any moment, and sees the "Most Relevant" wait... it's going to change. So if anyone here is going to base anything on page placement or what's King Of The Hill for any search, guess what? It changes over and over, nothing is the same. Although I will say, after 20 minutes the search did return to the first capture.

Amazing?

You can PM me if it's wrong for the forum.

I'm looking for the bookshelf guy, the shoes, the marijuana, and wasn't there one that was all clouds, identical? These are for an investor who says, Shutterstock has added far more new photos than Adobe. I was pointing out that if thousands of duplicates or spam images are what makes them growing faster, don't be fooled by artificial growth.

If it's allowed by Leaf, links to the most spammed portfolios, anywhere, but specifically SS.
