« on: March 06, 2018, 10:51 »
This kind of post it's not singular, and if you will look carefully, as the time passes, more people complain about lower sales on forums. I guess that the market is becoming overcrowded, pond5 is over 10 millions of footage, and every week about 20K are added. I can tell you about my February sales, comparing to 2017- in 2018 I sold only 20% :) . The idea is that a month means nothing, could go wrong, my problem is that in 2017 I sold with 9% less than in 2016.

Almost all of the contributor feel a drop in their sales comparing to last years. Far too many footage on stock market I guess.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience... My worry is more about the time for waiting the sales up, tha about not selling, because I know that a month is a little period of time, and you have to look more time...

I am concerned about the needed time to get the footage get noticed for buyers, and that starts the sells in a "normal" way (if that exits)... I mean, fo knowing more or less how much will be the standards earned monthly... I know that maybe some month will be (300 for example) and others 500 so the midle point will be 400... or maybe is more or less, but some point of regularity in the sells, and not peaks, and nothing... Maybe I will have to wait for a entire year to discover, and for know if the sells will stabilesh

Anyway, I know there are more and more material and more and more competitive (althought... that there are more it doesnt mean there are more competitive, I think that the new material will competite with the old material, for example if I shot a batch about technologie, with laptop for example, it will be more clips, but you have to subtract the old shots with old laptops... So there arent X millions of clips and adding more and more, there are adding and Subtratting)

Sorry if I dont express very well, I am from Spain :) but I try with my english

Ive had long spells without a sale at various agencies. Not a stop at all of them at once. If that is the case it might just be the wrong season for your content.

I wouldnt worry too much though. It could be that your clips got exposure in the newest feed and have fallen off since. Ive found it takes six - 12 months for a shoots clips to sell well, as discussed in your other thread.

Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress.

Thank you, yes it is not a total stop because I sold in SS, but just 1 video, when the previus month I sold 5, in AS and pond it is a stop :(

But, yes I know and you said me in the other thread that is normal to have to wait 6 or more months to the incomes get up, but as I stareted to sell I thought that the selling had stareted to grow... anyway I will wait hoping to take off.

By the way: nice web, thanks for sharing your experience, and very nice work!!

From my humble perspective, Silveandalu, it's a lovely portfolio. Very unique. Very diverse. All very well shot.....and while I only viewed a small percentage, every clip looked well priced. And that would be my only suggestion. Selectively and carefully look at the pricing (with Pond5) and try tweaking a bit. But again, be careful. It's well shot and deserves a better than average price list.

Stay positive. Could be nothing more than a minor glitch. I've often said the only real statistic worth paying attention to is "year to year".

Thanks!! I glad that you like my work. And yes, the whole year will be the real statist

So , you say that maybe I can try to change a bit the prices for triying to atract more clients?

I know that this "business" have to be watched in the long term, but I am worried because in the last weeks (6 -7), my sales have been stoped, I started to upload content in octuber to Adobe stock, SS, and pond 5, since that month, I was selling content, the best month was november and dicember with 3-5 videos sold in each plattform, but since January I have just sold 1 in SS and 1 in Adobe, and none in Pond 5... I dont know if this is beacuse I didnt upload too many videos (just 20 or 30 at week, when in october and november I uploaded 200 at week, I started with 0 and now I have 1.500...

I dont know... I am a bit concerned, and thinking if I can do something or just cross the fingers and wait...

My portfolio is this: https://www.pond5.com/artist/silvestregarcia#1/2063

Offtopic: someone knows how to create colletions in pond 5?

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing @silvanalu - great looking port.

Wow - that is a lot of footage to get up in just four months.

It sounds like Ive been a little late to the Adobe Stock game, going to get everything up on it soon to start seeing how it does.

That was my experience with Pond5 overall - took a few months for sales to start.

Looking forward to hearing more about your progress in the future.

Thanks, I already had the material, I am uploading it to the stock plataforms... hard work hehehe. Pond is frozen since 5 january... I dont know if this fluctancy is normal...

About the prices... I am starting trying with 89 for 4k and 69 for HD, I would like to up more... I will see how it sell...

I Will share when I have more data.

If I can ask you: How were your 5th first months?

Regards!

Thanks for sharing, nice port ;)

I am beginning in the microstock footage world, well, I stared in october, Now I have near of 1.500 clips in SS, Pond and Adobe Stock... I am sorprised that the best for me is Adobe, then Pond and then SS... I dont know if the sells will increase more with time... The people say that in pond the sells ups a year later... But I have sold some clips... my grows are in theese 3 months around 15-20 clips per agency, so more or less 5-7 clips per month, in Pond 3-4 (althought just 1 in january and 0 in february)

Sorry about my english ;)

Here is my port (is similar in the others agencies) https://www.pond5.com/artist/silvestregarcia#1/2063

Hi, how do you see your rank? Do you see in fotolia or Adobe? I cant acces to Fotolia, it redirecme automatically to Adobe profile :( Thanks!

Did you have a Fotolia account before the Adobe account? If not the FT sign up was closed, you can't see the rank. You must have a FT account to see rank. https://us.fotolia.com/Contributor dashboard.

Hi I had a Fotolia acount first of the adobe, I could enter and I saw the stats, but I dont know how to see the rank... By the way, The stats shows that january is very bad for views :(

Adobe Stock / Re: Disastrous performance of FT/AS in November
« on: November 17, 2017, 20:30 »
Different story for me.
I was only doing video and I was doing fine with Fotolia: I had not a lot, but my regular 10-15 uploads per month, average $28 each, but sometimes the odd $70, let's say 400-600 per month.
not really increasing, in spite of constant uploading, but it was OK.
Then I had the stupid idea of starting to upload also photo (about 3 months ago)...
Guess what, I still had the same number of uploads, but they were all photos, fro ridiculous amounts, so my income went from $400-600 a month o some stupid $10-15 from one day to the next.
So this week I went like crazy deleting all my photo portfolio, one by one, and guess what?
I finally had a video sale yesterday and another one today

I readed already this topic, and I am worry about it, I am a video principally, but I also uploaded some photos, an even having more than 1k of videos I sell more photos (just 300) in AS and SS... Would I to delete them???

35
Hi again, I want to share with you my incomings for this first month. I am uploading already my port, so this month started with 30 or 40 videos and now is SS 800, AS 1100 and Pond 1300, as you can see the admitance are very different (I uploaded the same clips)

So, in this month I have sold 4 clips in total, 1 in SS (the second day that I started to upload, and then no more) 1 in AS, and 2 in Pond 5!!! So plus some photos that I sold, I earned around 125 $

I have sorprised with Pond because everybody sayed that it takes more time to starting to sell... and I am desapointed with SS I thought I will sell more there... I hope this month gets better.

Stocksy / Re: Call To Artists is Open!

Hello everybody, I have completed my application on September 17 and I sent 100 photos and videos as asked. I have sent 25 exclusive footage and, 30 exclusive photos. The rest were non-exclusive photos because I have asked how is working and got the answer that yes, I can send non-exclusive content, but, in case of approval, this content will be deleted by the reviewers. I have tried to send various photos and footage, even if my specialty is food, I have sent lifestyle, conceptual, animals and travel. I choose some of my best content. I am pretty active on socials, specially with my Facebook page. With all this, on October 12 I have received the negative answer:
"Thank you for your interest in Stocksy. After reviewing your work, we dont feel there is a fit at this time.
As you can imagine, we get a lot of applications and its always a difficult decision, but we only have room for a small group of contributors.
We wish you the best in your future endeavours and thank you for taking the time to apply and share your work with us.
We hope you have a great day,"
I strongly believe they rejected me because my photos doesn't tell a story. Portfolio must tell a story and has to have a beginning related to the end, everything in the same style. In my portfolio the story lacks and is pretty messy. Also I have sent some exclusive images which were part of non-exclusive series. This was wrong too, but I didn't know. I try to reorder my ideas and my portfolio and I will try again. But I want to tell you that is hard to reach what they want, I strongly believe that only an editor can have enough eye to order portfolio and public image in order to match with Stocksy.

Oh, so sorry, after the hard work... Thanks for sharing yours learnings. I have a question: you said that they allow to upload non exclusive material and if they selected you should deleted it, where did you read about this? I just uploaded exclusive material, but if that you said is tru I would like to complement with my best shots (wich ones arent exclusives) If you or anyone can confirm this, or this will penalize me... Thanks a lot!

My understanding was that you would have to be able to delete any images accepted from all of the other sites that they are currently for sale now - and they would stay at Stocksy.

He wrote: The rest were non-exclusive photos because I have asked how is working and got the answer that yes, I can send non-exclusive content, but, in case of approval, this content will be deleted by the reviewers.

I understand that is talking about the reviewers of Stocksy... But it have more sense that you said, that if the maeterial will get, you should have to delete from other places.

I am doubting to put this ones:

Thinks!!!

Hello everybody, I read this topic with interest because I am a video contributtor , but I also started to upload some pics (basically frames of my 4K videos), and I was worried when I read all this thing that some people say about to get down the video sales if you uplad pics... But then there are other people that say that it isnt a math thing, that sometimes the sales down other ups, but is not because images... And that for them the sales doesnt affected by the uploading pics...

I would like to ask if you still thinking that the uploading images is  bad for videos? please with facts and stats... Thanks!!

getting photos with "no people" (desappeared if you put 30 seconds of shutter) I dont know is just an idea, hehehe

Pronto!

Nice! Try also to play with shutter at day (with filter), I like a lot the last you put (siena street), if you can one like that with someone would be perfect. Of course always is my personal opinion ;) I am like you hoping to get admitted in stocksy ;)

Thanks, I m glad you liked it.

Yes, that photo is more close to the stocksy spirit (I think) but, sorry always there is a "but", the persons are pasted to the background, if you have some of this shots more from low angle for getting the silhouettes aginst the sky it would be greater.

If you are in Florence try to play with the tipycal scenes (old bridge, David, etc) but playing with shuttr speed for example and getting photos with "no people" (desappeared if you put 30 seconds of shutter) I dont know is just an idea, hehehe

Buena suerte tambin para t!!!

Hi, I finished to add some photos, initially I uploaded just videos, but they send me mail telling me thate the procces of application was finished but I can keep uploading until they decide if they want me hehehe, so I uploaded some photos, I attatch it, the videos are slow motion of naked man (from back) running to the waves, and aerial shots of man in a clif with open arms...

Please tell me what you think about :)

Frogfish, I like your photos, but it seem, for me, without an personal point of view, they are great, but I cant see "your personality", and I think that this is important in stocksy the "author" print...

Brasilnut, I dont know if you ask for impressions about your photos, I think if you have put the photos is for this, so in my opinion there is a lack of more risk, I mean, the photos are ok, good, great, but I miss more original or diverse perspective

Sorry for my english (i tried my best) in spanish my opinion is much better hahahahaha

Pond5 / It worth to put some free videos?
« on: October 26, 2017, 00:33 »
I Wonder if is practical or usefull to put some of my clips as free ones... And if I do, can I later return them to put priced?

Anyone has experienced with this?

I am new in pond 5 , uploading my port (only videos, 2.500) but in one month (800 uploaded) 0 sells, my precies are 39 HD and 59 4K, I dont know if they are so low or balanced prices for starting...

My port: https://www.pond5.com/artist/silvestregarcia#1/2063

Thanks ;)

Thanks guys (I dont know if there is some women commenting, and I dont sure if guys is just for men) anyway thanks for the advises.

I tried again the CSV but, I think that it works if you upload all your content at once, and I cant do it that way, beacause I have around 2.500 videos (more than 1 terabyte) and because I have to work in my bussines (video production, corporatives videos most) So, I am uploading batch by batch, copying and pasting the keywords (with the tool of this web) and the title from ESP... so I have already submitted 1.000 and they have admitted around 600 (SS) - 800 (pond and adobe)

I tryed in stroyblocks but is so hard to complete the info, you have to do it one by one, is no way of chosing all and aply the same keywords to all... (Maybe it is me, if someone knows how to do it please enlightme )

I started uploading at beganing of October, I sell just one video in SS (This one: https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-31432726) but nothing more...

In adobe I uploaded the past year some videos (80) and I sold 4!! but then I deleted them for putting in Getty (at that point I was exclusive with them) Any way, I thought that if I had sold 4 videos in a few months with 80 videos with 2.000 I will sell a lot more, but for now, nothing :(

I know, I have to be patience and wait as you said... I will share with u, thanks!

45
Like JJNeff I too was exclusive on istock/Getty up until Start of 2016.
I had 6000 clips to transfer to all the big stock sites. It's hard and boring and can seem a slog. I didn't create too much new content in 2016 due to uploading process.

Use CSV - It's a must - Massive time saver. There's nothing to it really. All the big sites now accept it. I use pond5's version and just amend it slightly for the rest.

So a year and a half on and I look back and think why didn't I leave exclusivity years ago?
I'm selling and making way more. Shutter took 6 months for my port to stabilize. Adobe straight away really. Storyblocks (Videoblocks) straight away and Pond5 took around a year until I received a consistent monthly income that I was happy with.

I've only a handful of clips on Dissolve but sell a few every month so my target this year is to upload my port to them. They might be worth checking out?

Remember CSV and good luck!

Thanks Cider, so now your earnings are better than with getty/istock? This is hopefull for me hehehe.

Can you ask for a favor... I will like to see or reuse a CSV document (no need full fill, just one or two lines for watching how it have to fill, as I mentioned I try to make with CSV but I dont really understand what to put and how :( , if is not a big problem for you or another my email is: [email protected]

Thanks!

Hello everybody.

I come from Getty video, and I am putting all my portfolio in SS, Pond5 and adobe, I have to think others agencies, but for now this are the 3 ones, because I have 2.500 videos and is a hard work to upload and submit all of them.

So, I have been working this month uploading, I have uploaded around 600 videos in each agency, but the incomes doesnt arrive, just 1 video sold in SS. Is this normal? When do you think the "normal" numbers will start to balance?

If you want to check my port and tell your opinion I will apreciate this :)

Good question.
Something I have been asking myself this year too.
I joined all the main agents at the beginning of the year supplying footage.
Coming from being exclusive to Corbis, supply everyone non exclusively seemed strange to me.

I`ve shot a lot this year, but its been hard work, and worrying if things will materialise. I asked another stock footage contributor a while back how they felt starting out; their reply was that they just had blind faith that things would work out in the end, I`m kind of like that too.

It`s been interesting to see who sells what, and how some agents seemed to have started quicker than others.

I have a thought few times why it takes longer on Pond5, than the others, maybe a lag of a year from submitting, and often wondered why, when other sells clips a month after submitting them.

Not much help when I want things to get up and running, but at least it helps me understand the different markets and to not be too impatient, which it is very hard in this game!

Thanks! If I can ask, how large is your portfolio? did you move all or are doing as I am doing now? Is working for you? Hehehe many questions... whatever, thanks!

47
You have some great content! I moved over 6k, files to 5 sites in one year. Are you using CSV? very important to do so. It will take around 6months to a years or so to pass the income you made at Getty. It is well worth it but you have to be patient. I made over $300.00 on Adobe just yesterday.

Thanks jjneff!!  Wowwww 6k!!! How much time did you needed for arrive to that number?

About CSV.. I am not using, I downloaded a CSV template from SS but I really didnt understand well, so I am doing manually (with the help of the keyword tool of this web) So I will very very apreciate any help about CSV.

And congrats about 300 in Adobe, this is a normal day for you??  Or an atypical day? hehehe Hope became in normal ;)

48
Side note. Your SS bio reads:

"I am a videographer who loves the nature, the adventure and photography. I do a lot of time lapses and landscapes. I love travel with my camera."

More correct would be:

"I am a videographer who loves nature, adventure and photography. I do a lot of time lapses and landscapes. I love to travel with my camera."

Your English is great, much better than my Spanish!, I just thought I'd let you know as I happened to spot it.

Thanks a lot, I have a lot to learn (or for learning) hahaha, for me this "microstock world" is a challenge for my english, I think that I have learned more than when I was in high school :-p

49
Thanks SpaceStockFootage, yes I just open account in storyblocks fro trying.

Thanks increasingdifficulty. Interesting point about the unique clips, I also thought for myself that maybe is better less but focused and selection of best shots, than a lot of variations, because it can lose the probability of one of those videos get more sells and visibility... but I saw the tren of other contributtors (big ones) in Getty and I saw that they upload around 20-30 variations...

And in my experience in Getty, is true that my best sellers clips came from little batches of 4-5 clips, but also I have batches of 50 (father with child shooping) and the sells go to a funny clip of them running in the market... I tell this because if I didnt submit all the 50 maybe I wouldnt submited this funny clip... so the market "selec" after you upload, now the funny clip is the more visible and I sell other times...

In the other hand the same microstock agencies reject more than getty (for logos, or people around) so I suppose than of my port of Getty It will reduced to a half... so, maybe this can have the natural filter...

Anyway, thanks very much.

I hope not to wait a year hahahahah
