Best month ever for me. They must have been playing with the search engine.

I'm curious - pretty much over the last year whenever someone has talked about a downward trend in stock - you have always piped up "OH BEST MONTH EVER FOR ME!"... is your small portfolio of video stock really always increasing like that? if so, I'm rather impressed it's doing that well, and that consistently...

SpaceStockFootage produce animations is a big difference ... matter less quantity, but quality. 10% of my portfolio r animations and yes i have an increase in  "animation" sales ...a good month for me  :P

Strange. I have a good set of animations too, and those don't seem to sell too much. Wondering if it is because my portfolio is primarily 'stock' (so when people 'browse' a portfolio, they don't easily find the other animations?)

except... the study is kind of useless - because it is discounting thing like say........

"city slickers" that sit on their butt all day, and farmers who are actually working in the field day in, day out...
could be excercise... could be lack of pollution compared to say NYC/L.A... could be more natural foods, could be many other things...

but taking one item - and isolating it to the exclusion of everything else is like saying since all astronauts drink water, drinking water makes will make you an astronaut...

Ummmm. Did you actually read any of this piece?

"The cheese-eating habits of a whopping 130,000, 35-70 year-olds, representing a staggering 21 countries were examined"

Sorry, but that doesn't sound to me like a study that "took one item and isolated it to the exclusion of everything else."

pps, i.e., does that mean the 1 BILLION chinese people, and the 1 BILLION east indians, and half a BILLION arabs, who don't have a steady cheese diet, are at "44.4%" higher risk of those diseases? (somehow, they seem to be doing pretty well on the diet they do have)...

nope, actually I didn't read that...

still then - there are so many other variables at play, and so easy to manipulate statistics to prove the point you want.

like saying 9 out of 10 dentists recommend ______. you pick then 9 dentists you want to 'prove' your point, and then 1 you don't to make it seem legitimate.

a lot of farmers are also subsidized (gov't intervention/food control/etc) - and so if they have a surplus of cheese (which most likely they do), its in their best interest to commission a report that "proves" you "need" cheese.

same way, if pizza, pop & potato chips ever went out of style, I'm sure numerous "reports" and "studies" would pop up "proving" that a steady diet of pizza, pop & potato chips was detrimental to your health, because you were lacking "electrolytes" (salt), "protein" (the meat), etc, etc.

Curious - how are you finding your own videos on these other portfolios? Are they just using the same title when uploading?

484
question - have you ever uploaded any of your videos to one of those unlimited 'subscription' sites (i.e., envaot elements, motionarray, etc)? i'm wondering if this is the main location people are stealing from then simply reselling on other sites...

Illustration - General / Re: Commercial value?
« on: June 08, 2019, 21:56 »
I'd say it has commercial value. Two black people doing laundry - could be used for laundry/cleaning commercials/flyers/etc, race related material (i.e., black families, events, etc - as a stretch - the guy 'could' look a bit east indian), family event flyers, looks like it could either be a husband/wife, or father/daughter (because of the grey hair), could be for a sports team because of the jersey and white soccer socks (although it looks like he is into football, and she into soccer), could be for afro day, could be unpacking boxes, etc, etc...

you don't 'necessarily' need to have eyes, because it is 'stylistic' - although that is one of the things I did notice (woman not so much, because her hair 'could' be covering them, whereas the guy was more noticeable)...

so yes, lots of commercial value...

487
I'd say no - doesn't appear to have any recognizable faces/etc.

I've got some AE templates on AS, which I like, because they're "compiled" into .mogrt format.  On the other sites, you actually sell an AE file, right?  What's to stop anyone from stealing some of the underlying expression code or anything else?

Nothing, and people do.

You may as well upload and try. If you make a sale, of course it is worth it, if not, then it's not.

Envato is quite bad for rejections - and it seems completely arbitrary. My understanding is that a number of "verifiers" are also "authors" - so basically - if they see something that competes with their product, they reject you. Not because it is 'bad' - just because they don't want you getting sales.

...and they have had 13 sales they owe you (or someone else).

None of my clips in there thankfully.

How do you know they've had 13 sales?

artist:jennibillys salegt:0

shows 12 clips = at least 12 sales.

artist:jennibillys salegt:1

shows 1 clip = at least 13 sales.

artist:jennibillys salegt:2

shows 0 clips = exactly 13 sales.

:)

Those were footage sales by the way.

oh cool, I didn't know you could do that!

If you read/saw the license agreement signing up for exclusivity - yes - they said they would re-submit to adobestock & vimeostock and 'many more' in the future...

It's an interesting business arrangement for them - because they now get a cut of profits from content on other agencies (as do you, if it sells)... But you are restricted in that you can't list that content on the other 50+ video/etc agencies available, and have to wait for pond5 to do it for you...

As far as I can tell - there is not really any additional marketing of 'your' content going on other than listing on 2 other agencies, and having the word 'exclusive' on their site... I think it is a bit of a raw deal for those who signed up - but - there are some believers - so - maybe I am mistaken and their sales will skyrocket... time will tell.

If they actually did a lot of extensive marketing on your end, i.e.,
- listing on 50+ agencies on your behalf (unlikely with even the best salesmen, a 'really' good team might be able to get 10/15 of those)
- extensive marketing on platforms like google ads, bing, facebook, etc, etc - "specifically" for your clips
- other marketing methods to enhance 'exclusive' sales,

then I think it would be a fantastic deal.

BUT.
a) You've got random content from everywhere (so it may be "exclusive" in that the author agreed to sell it elsewhere, but the nature of the content is not necessarily desirably exclusive from a purchasers perspective)
b) I can't really see them doing the google/FB/bing advertising (it actually requires a lot of skill nowadays to see a good ROI, let alone 'a' ROI from those platforms because of competition)
c) and I believe the "work" they've done is simply brokering 2 deals with vimeostock & adobestock (vimeo is harder to get in at the moment), and adding the 'exclusive' watermark...

So...........

You might see a (small) overall increase in your sales on the Pond5 platform because of a higher commission (20% difference)...

BUT... long term I think you are hurting yourself, because you lose out on sales on other platforms you could submit to by yourself.

That being said - one platform that was 'in a way' successful was Envato - but:
a) They had dirt cheap clips for the longest time (I think 10+ years)
b) from the start their arrangement was pretty crappy if you were a regular contributor - so it was the 'promise' of getting most of your sales (I think it is/was @ $70,000 in sales you then get 85% of the sale price).

But envato has been a bit dishonest, in that they doubletax a number of people without tax treaties (so your net percentage is lower), and somehow have managed to get away with it for a very long time. But, they do it.

493
I'm guessing he/she found your content on an unlimited site like motionarray where you uploaded your content, and thought wouldn't it be great to make their own portfolio based of yours & others content... I'm assuming he is probably not the only one... (looks like he was also into ripping off the social media lower 3rds animations...) (I don't think you uploaded to envato elements as well, did you?)

How did you manage to find this portfolio?

General Stock Discussion / Re: DJI Osmo Pocket
« on: May 20, 2019, 19:06 »
I use the Removu 4k hand held. It is cheaper than the Osmo and works great. It has a small zoom also  the focus works great without and problems. It also needs very good light to be usable for stock .

I played around with the RemovU. Much larger than the pocket - but was kind of fun. You also needed really good light conditions, otherwise the video would be pixelated, etc. Zoom was actually just 'digital' zoom - so again, if you relied on that for stock video - you would notice artifacts. As for focus pumping, I don't believe it did that - so that was a plus. (Or if it did, I don't remember).

General Stock Discussion / Re: DJI Osmo Pocket
« on: May 19, 2019, 15:17 »
Yes, I do.

It is fun - good at stabilization, convenient to carry - but - a couple things:

a) You have to have really good light for good videos
b) It still 'focus' pumps - which makes footage unusable. (i.e., if a subject is moving, or you are moving in an area where there are lots of objects at various distances away, instead of uniform distances)
c) There is no zoom functionality at all, so basically you only get wide angle videos (unless you are using it more for macro shots)

thought I'd just post some thoughts here...

if footage was "truly" exclusive and desirable, and pond5 reached out to outlets that desired this truly exclusive footage - i.e., what the authors submitted was very difficult to obtain else where and news footage firms wanted, say:
- semi/private meetings with celebrities, politicians
- special exclusive news coverage (i.e., building the wall, border crossings, natural disasters, rescue missions, etc)
- in action military footage, on the ground with soldiers, etc
- close up shots of exotic animals in various habitats
- unique shots (i.e., FPV) of say an eagle flying over mountains from the eagle's perspective
- unique computer graphic simulations/animations/etc (i.e., tech, space, medical, etc, etc)

AND... pond 5 had an in/did some heavy promotions with the news outlets, advertisting agencies, firms, with this footage...
AND... pond 5 priced it accordingly (i.e., say $1000/clip or higher)...

THEN... I think the exclusive would be an awesome idea...

But when you have the exact same footage being submitted as non exclusive, and stuff like:
- a video of your foot doing nothing
- a chipmunk with half its body cut off eating nuts
- a video of a tree on an overcast day shot with a low end camera

and as far as I can tell - the only thing pond5 is doing to promote 'exclusive' content is:

a) A watermark that says "exclusive" on it (can't even 'filter' exclusive clips any more - I think that option was available for 1 week or so, I seem to remember being able to do that)
b) Since you've now agreed "not" to sell the clip elsewhere - contacting 2-3 other agencies (i.e., adobe stock) just agreeing to list your clip there (i.e., submitting your clip on your behalf).

and oh, that's about it...

doesn't seem like such a hot deal...

Your thoughts?

498
It's really stupid how the word police are telling people what they may and may not think or say. And some of them being politicians are re-writing the law which is wrong.

sounds like... motion array... envato... and the other stock agencies that are jumping into the foray!
