123RF / Re: How is your sales?
« on: March 27, 2013, 15:03 »
And as a final contribution to this topic (I promise).  ;D

Should I support a microstock company with the motto: "The low price leader for Royalty-Free content" ?

123RF, in my opinion, has a very narrow, uncreative, one-dimensional business sense. They feel the only way they can succeed is by offering their clients rock-bottom pricing.

Let's say they succeed.

Do you really think contributors won't be victimized again by them, or another agency who follows 123's example because 123 found success in squeezing the contributor?

That's why it's important 123RF fails. 123's failure will set a precedent whereby contributors have drawn a line in the sand and said...."my images are worth more than that."

A very valid argument.

However for me, 123RF is my second biggest earner. It's hard for me personally to justify a protest that will go largely unnoticed by 123RF and it's buyers. Call me a sell-out if you'd like... aren't we all sell-outs anyways?

Issues with Multiple Pages of Results?

Added a couple dozen images to a category and get the following error at the top of that category on page one:

Did you put them in the parent category as well as the child category?

Not at first.

I just tried it. Adding the image to the parent category did change the count on the category list. It counts the image twice. 3 images put in both the parent and the sub category shows (6) images in the parent. However, I still don't see any of them when clicking on the link for the parent.

Thanks for the insight. Everybody has the right to have his own opinion. I will just ignore your personal comments.

What personal comments?

Do you need a hug?

Image Categories

I created a couple of sub-categories and placed some images in those categories. The sub-category shows in the category list as just another category, not under the parent category. The parent category shows there are images in that category, but they don't show when that category is selected.

The attached screen shot shows this. I have 4 images in "places/travel". 3 of those images are in the "United States" sub-category (places/travel is the parent). When I click the United States category, I see my 3 images. When I click on the places/travel category that shows 4 images, I see nothing.

I can understand why some people are frustrated, but why delete your portfolio? Stop uploading if you don't think it's worth your time, but deleting approved images seems silly.

Simple. 123RF takes away sales from other agencies that pay-out a lot faster.
The trouble is that if I remove my port from anywhere it won't make the slightest difference to anybody except for me as I will lose out on my earnings there.   I'm 100% sure that no buyer is going to follow me around looking for my images is they are no longer at one particular site.   Unfortunately that is the truth of the matter.

Well this is true for standard business handshake type images, but in my case I have some niche travel images in my port and by deleting those from 123RF I reduce the buyer's choice, hopefully driving him away to other agencies...  :)

You can believe that if you want to.

I work in a place that uses a lot of stock images, so let me give you the perspective of one "buyer". Someone at my place of employment decided a while pack that BigStock was the place we'd purchase all of our stock images. They purchase a big pack of credits every few months or as needed. When we need an image, we use BigStock... period.

If there was an amazing image that was absolutely perfect for our project, we wouldn't know it existed if wasn't on BigStock.

I would imagine that same thing holds true for a lot of buyers. They have an agency of choice where they have an account and that is their first, if not only, place that they look for images.

123RF has loyal customers and they will not track you down at another agency if you delete your portfolio, because they will never know you even existed in the first place.

Leo, thanks again for making this happen.

Quick question(s)... Do you see any reason to hold back on uploading images at this point? Will all future versions be able to utilize the images I upload now?

As of this morning, March 2013 is my BME at 123RF.  :D

I can understand why some people are frustrated, but why delete your portfolio? Stop uploading if you don't think it's worth your time, but deleting approved images seems silly.

I can't stand Dreamstime and stopped uploading a while ago because of their lame policies, but I still have enough action to get a payout from them every 2-3 months. Leave your files up and make a little money. If it takes a year to reach a payout... it's still a payout.

Invalid keywords and says I uploaded each image 4 times when it was only two the first one and then the one with changed keywords???????????????????????????????????

It is a water sprinkler with Keywords that are relative to it.

Lawn, sprinkler, oscillating, purple, black, red, white, isolated, tool, work, summer, outside, outdoors, watering, play, modern, garden, lawn, irrigation, environment, agricultural, industrial, business, system, water, equipment, season, seasonal

Had the same problem with one of my images. I'm going to re-upload today and see what happens.

Although, vector uploads seem to be taking forever to process. I uploaded 6 files yesterday and nearly 24 hours later they are still nearly 1000 images ahead of mine in the queue.

260
Search Issues?

I updated a keyword on one of my test images and it does not appear when searching for that updated keyword. Is there a way to re-index, or do we just need to get our keywords right the first time around?

The search function also does not appear to utilize the words in the image title.

I could certainly make use of this feature as well.

262
The option to use your own watermark would be fantastic.

263
Thanks Leo, that was the issue.  8)

Ok, tested two files.

File1.jpg
File1.eps

File2.jpg
File2.eps

Uploaded them all together with each JPG at approx. 4900x4900 and got the same error as I posted above.

Reduced the size of the JPGs to approx. 3500x3500 and uploaded them again and it worked.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Image Upload Issue
« on: March 26, 2013, 13:12 »
First of all, I'm super impressed by SymbioStock so far. I've wanted something like this for a while and this fits my needs exactly. Thank you Leo!

My issue...

So far I have tried uploading a handful of images and vectors with mixed results.

I get this error occasionally when uploading vector.jpg and vector.jpg and then trying to "process to drafts":

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'WideImage_InvalidImageSourceException' with message 'File '/home/stompsto/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/plupload/uploads/PatrioticDesigns.jpg' appears to be an invalid image source.' in /home/stompsto/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/wideimage/lib/WideImage.php:225 Stack trace: #0 /home/stompsto/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/wideimage/lib/WideImage.php(183): WideImage::loadFromFile('/home/stompsto/...') #1 /home/stompsto/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock_image_processor.php(172): WideImage::load(Array, '/home/stompsto/...') #2 /home/stompsto/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock_image_processor.php(997): symbiostock_image_processor->symbiostock_process_image('/home/stompsto/...') #3 /home/stompsto/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock_image_processor.php(13 in /home/stompsto/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/wideimage/lib/WideImage.php on line 225

Shutterstock.com / Single Image (vector) Sale: $0.95?
« on: March 26, 2013, 10:50 »
I've had two single image vector sales in the past week with a commission of $0.95.

Anyone know how that happens? Every other single image download gets me $5.70.

271
I do primarily vectors so our experiences may differ. However I find, especially lately, that my new submissions sell well at SS and my new submissions are not selling elsewhere. I have decent sales at other agencies but it is all files that are 6-12 months old or older.

272
I seem to have this issue occasionally when working from Illustrator CS6.

If I save them from CS4 it seems to work each time.

273
Overall, since single image sales were added, my percentage is about 4% of commissions.

I had one week with a couple of big dollar single image sales that put that percentage at near 50% for that week, I have several weeks with zero single image sales.

StockFresh / Re: Anyone else seeing StockFresh sales improve?
« on: March 15, 2013, 08:30 »
I'll admit that I never paid attention to Sotckfresh until they jumped in the rankings. I started uploading a few files a couple weeks ago (about 40). Still no sales, but it seems to be a well run site and I wish them success.

275
@sweetgirll - No, I do not sell at clipartof. Thanks.

UPDATE: I contacted the business via their Facebook page. The owner responded and was very surprised to see this. He had paid a "designer" friend of his to develop the logo. He is very disappointed with his friend but glad to know the truth. The owner of the restaurant and I are now discussing how we can make this right.

Thanks to all the MSG folks who offered their input, I will let you know how this all unfolds.
