General Stock Discussion / Re: EXIF vs IPTC tags
« on: April 04, 2006, 08:24 »
I use Pixvue and it works on all sites with some inconsistances.   This is a free download and is an add in to windows explorer.

Sometimes it just doesn't work at all (on any site).
On iPhoto i think the desciption never loads.
On featurepics, the name loads up but is beside the feild rather than in it.
I ams sure there is one other but I cant remember.

I got approved just after my last post.  I am now hoping my first batch gets over 90% approval so my upload limit increased as uploading 10 per day could take a while.  Sitll have to wait 6 days for approvals according to there home page (given it took 6 days to get approval when at that stage it said 3 days I am not holding my breath)

How long does it take to get approved at Canstock.  I submitted my application over a week ago and still no approval.

however, judging from the comments above, I am not sure if it is worth it.

« on: April 03, 2006, 06:03 »
This was my first full month but not all sites were full months but it appears to be representative.  % of revenues came from:

ShutterStock 36%
Dreamtime     32%
FeaturePics    10%
BigStock          9%
iStock              7%
Fotolia             5%

but I vote them as one of the first companies to go under :S

It is interesting how many sites there are and it seems that in a few years not all will survive.  They cant even say they have unique photos and in most cases, submitters have also submitted to every other site.  And for the same reason, there is no incentive for other microsites to buy them out to gain in size as they will have thousands of double ups.  The only way I see it working is every macro sight will own a microsite and all other micor sites will eventually die.

it would be interesting to know from a designers point of view why they would use any site other than say istockphoto and shutterstock (the two with the most images).

It will be interesting to see how many earnings I (and everyone else) loses when these go under.

Shutterstock pays 3c - so you can either view that as almost as small or three times as much.

Are you getting any downloads from gimmestock.  What is there  minimum payout?

It is currently my second earner after SS.

My acceptance ratio is also better with 71 photos accepted compared to 44 and 16 for SS and IS respectively (not all the photos have been submitted to IS yet but SS and DT is comparable)

This is what the website says. I think it is a new feature for PE4 but not sure how good it is:

Quote
Find and view photos the way you wantEasily find and view your photos
Choose from a variety of organizing options, including keyword tags, which categorize your photos by favorite people, places, or events. You can instantly view every photo you've ever taken of Amy, for example, simply by clicking on her tag.

See all your photos in one place
View your photos in one convenient location whether they're stored on your hard drive or on CD automatically organized by date.

Find photos from a special day
Flip through photos taken on a special day using the convenient Date View. Browse by day, week, month, or year.

View photos by time period
View photos taken over a specific time period by clicking the intuitive Timeline.

Find every face
Instantly find all of your photos that contain faces so you can tag photos of friends and family for easy sorting.

edit: found more on the site:

Quickly find any photo
Find photos from a special day
Flip through photos taken on a special day using the convenient Date View. Browse by day, week, month, or year.

Search by metadata
Quickly find and preview any photo, no matter where it's stored, with expanded metadata search parameters, including f-stop, digital camera model, and exposure values.

Pinpoint your search
Complex searches are quick and easy with the power of keyword tags. Instantly find photos that show only Jack, but not Jack and Jill, for instance.

Search by usage
Find photos you've used in a slide show, sent as photo mail, put on a greeting card or calendar creation, or used any other way.

Search for similar photos
Automatically find photos that share common characteristics, such as color, shape, pattern, or composition.

Since currently I am using PE2, I though if I could upgrade to get both new features of photshop plus photo management, then it would be a one stop solution.

I have had a look at Imatch website and the program costs $59.  Money well spent?

http://www.photools.com/

Isn't photoshop Elements 4 an image management program as well?  Has anyone used this.  Does it allow you to input keywords etc (PE2 doesn't).

I agree, there are lots of things they could do to make it quicker, like having some feilds set to the last used setting - ie photo, royalty free, price and the name, it puts the name of the file beside the file it needs to go in (that might be an issue with using pixvue).

i guess because most people dont have photos that small.  However I can see how it could be helpful if you have lots of old photos.  My first camera was a 5mp and I have always taken on highest setting as I never saw the point in having a low res photo.

I keep track of title, discription and keywords as well as what has been submitted and where on excel.  How do you keep track of what has been submitted and where and whether it has been accepted or not.  I assume Imatch doesn't do this??

excel is fine with 100 images (ranging from 40% to 100% acceptance) but I can see it gettingout of control.  I also keep track of earnings and DL and various other performance measures on another tab.  I am only into my first month so pointers would be helpful.

title, discription and keywords is also added in pixvue so it automatically uploads.

I currently have 6 downloads from FeaturePic's as well but my prices are set at $1 so revenue is not much. I think once I start getting more downloads, I will start increasing the price.

I have also noted with them that they accept anything. Has anyone had any rejections yet??
