SnapVillage.com / Re: SnapVillage
« on: July 09, 2007, 06:39 »
No-one is going to get any sales while the site is still in Beta.  Beta means 'testing period'.
i thought the photos were avaliable for sale but only to the US at the moment.

123RF / Re: Your experience at 123rf?
« on: July 09, 2007, 01:32 »
It is a middle of the road site for me but upload is very easy.  If IPTC works, hten all you have to do is FTP and then they will get reveiwed.  As such it takes very little effort and just a bit of bandwidth.

No upgrades in over a week.  Seems as if they rushed to get the site out and are now working on the features that should have been their in the first place (well I hope they are working on them).

They are also moderting comments in the blog as a few of mine aren't showing up.  Not supprising really.

also, check out the canon photoshop rebate.  It is a couple $100 off if you have purchases a canon camera recently.
I think this is only in the US??  dont think it applies to overseas.

It reads it fine for me except for keywords which dont have commas (therefore being picked up as one keyword).  Title and description work fine.

« on: July 05, 2007, 08:28 »
Anyone using photoshop elements 5.

I am currently using elements 2 (free with 20D) but use DPP for Raw, zoombrowser for browsing and a mixture of programs for keywording.  I am thinking of upgrading so that I can just use one program for: Raw, editing and browsing.

I have considered CS3 but this is just a hobby for me and I dont think I can justify it.

is the raw editor the same as CS3 or is it different?
Can you keyword (or is this only done in bridge which comes with CS_)

Note the restrictions on Flickr if you dont have a pro account ($25pa - you get 3 months free when you transfer from Yahoo).

I am currently trialing another photosharing site (similar to Flickr) but it is having more issues than fotolia with its latest upgrade!!!

They are based in Hungary I think. Eastern European values and etiquette may be different than ours if catering for a different market.
I never thought the eastern Europeans were prudish??

Anyway, I think Jupiter (who ownes StockXpert or at least 51% of them) have now migrated the data to servers to the US.

Disclaimer: I have been wrong before and will be wrong again.

What are the troubles at IS?
I think he is referring to disambiguation (major issue when you have as many photos as Phil) or maybe the constant changes of the search engine.

60
also remember that what is 'sexual content' in one country may be an 'normal content' in another.
Exactly.  You never know when the arab market will take off.

StockXpert earn me quite a bit.  I think my problem is that I know no hot girls willing to pose for me (for the camera anyway ;))

Is this your site.  I am always suspicious when some one promotes a new site with their first post.

Just a hobby for me.  I make more in a day than I do in two months on micro.

When I go back to NZ (land of the low wage - compared to london anyway) that should change a bit.

« on: July 01, 2007, 04:22 »
Geez you guys are quick.  I have just updated my blog and come here to find everyone is well ahead of me in calculating their stats.  Here are mine:

32% shutterstock
13% istockphoto
15% dreamtime
12% fotolia
 7% 123RF
11% StockXpert
 7% bigstockphoto
 3% Featurepics
 2% LuckyOliver

FT is down after the upgrade but I got an EL just prior so it was a good month there.  Second best month ever, mainly due to SS.

Albumo.com / Re: New Stock site
« on: June 29, 2007, 06:09 »
Yeah I agree, the site is better then I first thought. I just started to upload image on there. Hope to reach the 1000 before the 100 club is full..
What is so good about it?  From what I here they are accepting everything (good to reach the 1000, but bad from a designers perspective).

What makes a site good is sales.  What makes you think this will be better than any other new site that doesn't find its feet. (I understand it is too early for them to be having sales but what sets them apart etc - ie. I support LO as it has a quirkyness that the other sites dont).

In my opinion it looks cheap.  What is is, default arial font?  At least before it look stylised.  How much processing power did they waste converting all the thumbs??

private property.....public event
I went to the Monaco F1 -  a street race so definately public property.  Tickets said photos ok but not for commerical purposes.  No doubt if you even tried to sell (event as editorial) they would sue for breach of contract.

there are always ways around the rules
and there are ways to get sued

Kind of defeats the purpose of getting access for business purposes if they are then going to give away your photos.

I am sure no pro would agree to that. News paper photags might as by the time the photos are online the paper is published and the event is old news.

Could you just give them a CD of Blog size images??

StockXpert.com / Re: What's Up With StockXPert Site?
« on: June 28, 2007, 06:50 »
Similar comments apply to Corbis - although the site is at an early stage of development, it is fast and efficient and they've got very good communication.
You obviously haven't seen all the error messages at Snapvillage.

Off Topic / Re: Successful Life?
« on: June 28, 2007, 05:18 »
in one sentence -  what is this microphilosophy.

For me - knowing how to spell philosophy properly. I will get it right one day.

Really - being happy.  In business, success gets measured in $. In private life, people should measure it in happyness.

Credits now cost $1.36
Not yet, until it changed in the past minutes. I'm looking forward to it!
They ar not doing this at all now.  I think what they did instead was bring in a new smaller size and all the other sizes got bumped up a credit.  However, all my sales have been for the smal web size unfortunately.

Your a star Leaf,

No sooner had I added the new email address to my paypal that I looked at my email to see that Fotolia had sent payment to my contact email address, not my paypal address.

payment all sorted now and received.  Very quick - only about 2 days.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Buyer referral bonus
« on: June 27, 2007, 10:13 »
I have never looked at buyer referrals but I think it is something like this:

SS 10% indefinately
FT 10% for 5 years
123rf 10% for 6m
DT 10% for 3 years
FP 1.5% indefinately
StockXpert 10% 6 months
IS $5 one off
LO $5 one off (increased to $50 by the man himself)

These are all of the top of my head so could be completely wrong.

Think about what the buyer needs.  If it is a subscription, SS could be the best.  If just one off, I dont think I could recommend FT at the moment so DT looks good.

That is why I only look here (and one other independant).  To much crap at the other.

iStock is very fast to delete (and ban) so they dont have the same issues.
