123RF / Re: Looks like 123RF is back to 'normal'
« on: May 24, 2006, 08:49 »
Fo a subscription model, they are slower than expected.  I seem to be averaging one every second day.

Hoping for better things but i guess there is only so many designers - Will consolidation come to microstock (or sites closing up_ or the the costs so low they they can continue to exist even though they have few sales

877
Seems resonable.  Dont think it will effect many people unless you are submitting a crop.

If they increased it to 6 it would be an issue but 4mp still allows for minor recrops from a 5mp camera.

878
I choose the highest - $20.  If someone whats it for an extended licence purpose, the difference between $10 and $20 isn't much.  i wonder if even $20 is too little.

haven't had any EL sales so maybe I have priced too high.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Keenimages anyone?
« on: May 22, 2006, 08:44 »
What are your thoughts?

Nooooooo . Not another one.

50% payout.  Looks as if it is a more pro - marco type site.  You get your own website and photos cost $26 per mb so a 8mb image will sell for $208 + or - 10%.

associated with shutterpoint???

I dont think I will submit unless good things start happening.

heres and experiment for you

take a picture of an american dollar bill, or download one from the interenet. Open it in photoshop, and click print... you don't have to print anything, just select that option.

For the lazy among us, what happens.

I beleive it is an offense to take photos of any currency (at least UK) but for some reason the sites do seem to accept it.  I thnk the law is there so if you do do a counterfeit, they have something to charge you on.

881
I thought stockXchange - sXc was the existing site - free photos - which Jupiter bought and then launched the pay version - stockXpert which has only been live for a few months??

882
Most people take weekends and holidays so there would be no downloads on those days, unles you shared your subscription with someone (is that allowed??).

I think that explains why we dont get a higher payout from them but remember they just increased from 20c to 25 cents so they must have worked out that they make money on that amount.

Plus - I think what you suggest would be a banning offense.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia - Gaining ground
« on: May 19, 2006, 09:00 »
I see that point but given these are not normally global campaigns, it is unlikely that you will see the same picture again.

Just look at the most downloaded at any of the sites and you will see they continue to get hits.

Pixelbrat - they do have a low payout of $30 but $3 over 2 months means it will take you close to 2 years to get a payout.

I hope that Fotolia keeps picking up. Hopefully they will become very popular - they seem to have a good layout and format, unlike 123RF and some others. And I like the ranking thing too.

Do you find that old photos seem to be selling just like the newer ones uploaded?
I do find there site quite slow though.

I dont have enough sales to pick up a pattern yet.  I note that they have justed added the option to buyers to sort by sales.  Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing but will basically enable the buyer to avoid looking at all your photos that haven't had DL yet and instead look at ones that have been used by others (ie tried and tested - as opposed to looking through varing quality of those with no DL).

I hover around the 1180 mark.  Guess I have a long way to go

Here is a list of Jupiter offerings:

And have you found any you can submit to? Perhaps only if one was open when they took over, but I've been to many of those sites before and never saw a photographer submission page.

Regards,
Adelaide

you can submit to StockXpert.  It is very easy to.  Sales are slow but picking up as it is quite a new site.

I am surprised they have so many options.  At some point they will need to consolidate their libraries (even if they keep different front ends) in to groups of microstock and marco stock wont they.

I upload to DT, SS, BS and Fotolia using FTP. When that is done, I start uploading to IS and begin to categorise the images on DT, SS, BS and FL. Normally when all this is done I will bulk upload to 123rf and CS. Now SX looks like it is really going to be a player, I will probably ftp uplaod to that at the same time as the other three sites that offer ftp.
I am similar to this but I wait a while for IS as I only submit photos that get accepted at most of the other sites (this is my screening process, otherwise I waste too much time just to get a rejection).

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime is killing me
« on: May 18, 2006, 12:03 »
leaf - that is the one I am thinking off.  weird that they would buy a free site based in Hungary and then try to change in into a pay site.  seems to be working.  i have seen some of the bigger players from SS hit their forums so expect lots more photos to turn up shortly.

I dont think stockbyte is a true micro site but does sales of CD of photos etc.  Maybe wrong.

890
I would delete but send a email to admin asking to be removed.  However, as you say, why bother.

891
or it might tap into other sites.  Anyone know for sure?

The hits are probably high because if you want to look at photos, you go to photo.com (the simplicity of the internet is one of its stong points).

Getty is public and bought Istock.  they have jsut published their results and apparently got hammered on wall street.

One of the other big agencies (macro stock but not alamy) started its own but i dont remember which two they are and if they are public.

General Stock Discussion / Alexa ratings of stock sites

Full web link -> http://www.alexa.com/browse?&CategoryID=526355

I am not exactly sure how alexa rating work but thought this was interesting:

The most visited sites in all 'Royalty Free' categories.

1. IStockPhoto.com
www.istockphoto.com - Site info
2. Dreamstime Stock Photography
www.dreamstime.com - Site info
3. ShutterStock
www.shutterstock.com - Site info
4. Photos.com
www.photos.com - Site info
5. BigStockPhoto
www.bigstockphoto.com - Site info
6. Fotolia
www.fotolia.com - Site info
7. Inmagine Royalty Free Stock Photos
www.inmagine.com - Site info
8. FreeFoto.com
www.freefoto.com - Site info
9. Comstock Images
www.comstock.com - Site info

General Stock Discussion / Re: Model Release Question
« on: May 18, 2006, 08:04 »
I beleive it is for a specific shoot only.  Read the terms of the release.  You maybe able to reword it to include all shoots between 2 dates but not sure if they would accept it.

I dont use releases so I will now hand over for those who do.

895
The sites that dont warrent it so far are canstock (I am considering removing) and image vortex (which was one of my firsts but with no sales, I think I should flag it).

There are sites that I hope will increase but I still think I am on track for a payment within a year so if they increase in sales, and I increase in photos, then it wont be a complete waste of time (note they are ones that are very easy to submit to so the it donts take much).

General Stock Discussion / Re: A substitute for Exifer?
« on: May 17, 2006, 11:54 »
pixvue lets you add multiple words separated by commas.  It then puts them in order and removes duplicates (though not plurals - not that I would remove them anyway).

I think the 10 keywords for 2c is just to qualify.  It is easy to add one but if you go to the effort to add 10 good ones, then you deserve a whole 2 cents.

123RF / Re: How is everyone doing on 123RF
« on: May 17, 2006, 11:40 »
Of the sites with low sales (123RF, StockXpert, Canstock, Featurepics), I beleive this has the most potential though StockXpertis currently beating it on sales. Canstock seems dead (refer other post) and I am not sure if Featurepics has the backing or enough photos, although because you can set your own rate, and get higher payouts, it might do ok.

Bigstock.com / Re: Bigstock has lost all of my respect
« on: May 17, 2006, 11:31 »
$30 cash out is good - especially since I got a $20 sale so it is my first site that I qualify for cash - Yay! It is a race between SS and DT for second. Place your bets and feel free to rig it by downloading my photos (links are at the bottom ;) )

I wonder if/when any of the other sites will reduce the minimum payout. SS is $75 and from my understanding, all the rest are $100. I guess it means they get to use the money for longer and get to hold onto the money indefinately if you dont ever get to that amount.

[EDIT - just remembered that Fotolia have no minimum payout but you need $50 to avoid a fee to get a payment]

Gimmestock.com / Re: Referrals of sorts at Gimmestock?
« on: May 17, 2006, 11:27 »
they have an allright looking site, but I vote them as one of the first companies to go under :S

Based on Fintastique's comments, Leaf's prediction may be correct.  Makes me happy that I didn't bother.
